    DK MoP Beta Class Changes

    Now that we have an engine we can search, let's get cracking! Post 'em as you find 'em!

    BLIZZCON 2011

    MoP announced, talent tree preview released.
    Not gonna explain the whole setup of talents and specializations... figure that out for yourself.
    (A note: Tiers 15, 30, and 45 are actually available at level 56, 57, and 58 respectively for Death Knights. Talent points are no longer gained from quests.)

    FEBRUARY 15TH + PRESS TOUR

    Talent calculator on the site update:
    Icy Grip has been added to our Tier 2 talents in place of Bone Shield, which has returned to being a Blood-exclusive ability.
    Vile Spew has been added in place of Corpse Explosion in Tier 1. So close!
    Unholy Blight (pictured above) has been re-introduced to replace Outbreak in Tier 1, which has gone back to being a baseline skill.
    On a Pale Horse has become a class passive.
    Control Undead has been added as a level 69 spell. If you didn't know, it was originally implemented at 81 to replace Outbreak when it was a talent.
    Soul Reaper is our level 87 ability- a type of Execute spell that deals a massive burst of Shadow damage after a short countdown. (For reference, one burst does about 3.5x Scourge Strike's damage, scaling with 100% of AP.)
    Threat of Thassarian increases Frost Strike's damage by 50% while dual-wielding.
    Horn of Winter now increases attack power rather than Strength and Agility. Abomination's Might has been removed.
    Kaivax posted that Corpse Explosion may return in the future as a glyph. He also posted that Necrotic Strike, Soul Reaper and Death Siphon cost Death Runes. Translation: It begins.

    MARCH 21ST: BETA DAY 1
    Death Siphon's now Shadowfrost damage, for Frost's benefit! It scales with 60% of Attack Power, heals for 75% of damage dealt.
    Frost Presence also has Runic Power Mastery folded in now, and of course increases RP-gen by 100% instead of buffing damage.
    Conversion has been added to our Tier 4 talents in place of Vampiric Blood. Vampiric Blood has been returned to being a Blood-exclusive ability.
    Dark Command and Rune Strike are now exclusive to Blood.
    Obliterate is exclusive to Frost.
    Festering Strike is exclusive to Unholy.
    Raise Ally got buffed to 60%.
    Raise Dead is a 2 minute CD to line up with Death Pact.
    New Glyphs:
    (Nevermind, that other "Death Grip" glyph was just the ORIGINAL one that hasn't been purged from the database, didn't recognize it cause it's been so long...)

    MARCH 29TH
    GC posted on a DK forum confirming that Death Strike's bugged. And that's about it. (Get used to it.)

    APRIL 6TH - 10TH: BUILD 15544
    Numbers boost to Death Strike, Heart Strike, and Rune Strike. Hardly worth a mention.
    Conversion reduces RP gen by 30% while it's active.

    APRIL 11TH: BUILD 15589

    Death Strike can no longer be parried.
    Horn of Winter now lasts 5 minutes.
    Blood Tap got a revamp: It consumes 5 charges, generates 2 every RP dump, and stores up to 10.
    Conversion now reduces RP gen by 50%, up from 30%.
    Numbers boosts to Death Siphon and Necrotic Strike. Nothing ground-breaking.
    Glyphs:
    • Dancing Rune Weapon: Reduces damage rather than Parry now.
    • the Geist (pictured above): New. Remember to keep your computer screens clean.
    • Horn of Winter: Now an aesthetic glyph.
    • Mind Freeze: Reduces CD rather than boosting the interrupt duration.
    • Shifting Presences: Saves 70% of RP rather than 50%.

    APRIL 13TH - 14TH
    The combinations from the Druid spell Symbiosis have been implemented:
    Frost and Unholy Death Knights receive Wild Mushroom: Plague.
    Blood Death Knights receive Might of Ursoc.
    Guardian Druids receive Bone Shield, Feral Druids receive Death Coil, Restoration Druids receive Icebound Fortitude, and Balance Druids receive Anti-Magic Shell.

    APRIL 24TH: BUILD 15640
    Plague Leech replaces Vile Spew.
    Purgatory replaces Icy Grip.
    Level 90 talents no longer deal damage.
    Death Coil had its cost reduced to 35 from 40 runic power.
    Death Grip had its CD reduced by 10 sec.
    Glyph of Outbreak has been added, which removes its cooldown... for a cost. As such...
    Veteran of the Third War no longer reduces the CD of Outbreak.
    Blood Tap stores 12 charges, rather than 10.
    Ebon Plaguebringer increases disease damage by 60%.
    Anti-Magic Zone finally got a numbers boost. It scales with Strength now rather than attack power, so Vengeance isn't gonna give it a boost.
    Death Siphon got a damage nerf by 33%, but returns up to 100% of damage dealt. It now scales with 40% of attack power.
    Necrotic Strike slows by 50% rather than 30%.
    Death's Advance is up to 100%.
    Glyph of Shifting Presences saved 80% of RP rather than 70%.

    APRIL 27TH: BUILD 15650
    Conversion doesn't halve RP-gen, but instead just prevents generation through effects like Frost Presence, Might of the Frozen Wastes or Scent of Blood.
    Scent of Blood increases Death Strike healing by 20%, since I mentioned it.
    Lichborne counts as a Shapeshift- it doesn't change your form, it's just located by your Presence bar now.
    Purgatory has already been nerfed to a 3 minute cooldown, up from 2 minutes.
    Rune Strike's got a 1.5 second hard cooldown... meh.
    Dark Transformation and Shadow Infusion got a boost, to 100% and 10% per charge, respectively. It's kinda significant.

    MAY 1ST - 3RD: BUILDS 15657 + 15662
    Rune Strike's got a 1.0 sec GCD rather than a hard cooldown... again, meh.
    Death's Advance has been redesigned though- It's been nerfed down to 70% snare resistance, but gives you a passive 10% movement speed, and can be used as a sprint which will break snares.

    MAY 12TH
    GC posted on a DK forum apologizing for our comparative lack of attention in the beta, and that he will "carve off some time to address some DK concerns".

    MAY 15TH
    GC posted on a DK forum confirming that Army feels weak, Runeforges are boring, and UF benefitting warriors isn't intended... and denied 80% of everything else he mentioned.

    MAY 17TH - 18TH: BUILD 15699

    Death Coil was changed back to 40 Runic Power...
    Sudden Doom reduces Death Coil's cost by 20% for Unholy DKs though (so, 32).
    Unholy Frenzy is no longer an Enrage.
    New Glyphs:

    MAY 23RD: BUILD 15726
    Frost Fever has a spec dependent tooltip that separates Unholy. Meh.
    Glyph of Shifting Presences was nerfed back to 70%.

    MAY 31ST: BUILD 15739
    They had to clarify, Desecrated Ground only lasts 10 seconds. Thanks for clearing that up guys.

    JUNE 5TH: BUILD 15752
    At some point around this patch, the Glyphs of Army of the Dead, Corpse Explosion, Foul Menagerie and Unholy Frenzy turned into Faded Glyphs, and their recipes only generate Faded Glyphs, but their effects remain in the files. Possible bug?
    In addition, GC posted on a DK forum confirming issues with Presences and a bug on our Windfury buff, and denying 80% of everything else.

    JUNE 12TH: BUILD 15762

    All death knight abilities have been converted to 1-second GCDs. As such...
    Unholy Presence no longer affects the GCD. Because it's baseline. For the class. And every time someone complains that it's been "nerfed", a puppy dies.
    Frost Presence got reworked, as per GC's command. It now increases RP gen by 20% (down from 100%), no longer increases the RP cap by 30, but reduces the duration of crowd-control effects by 20%.
    Improved Frost and Unholy Presences have been added, cementing each spec to their personal presence: IFP reduces the cost of Frost Strike to 20 runic power, while IUP increases Haste by an additional 10%.
    Unholy Aura, better known as Improved Icy Talons, has been added (or returned) to Unholy and Frost. Apparently its non-appearance was a bug.
    Might of the Frozen Wastes no longer grants 2H Frost additional runic power generation, but instead increases the damage of Obliterate by 50% while using a 2-handed weapon.
    Anti-Magic Zone is now 80% as effective for Unholy. Don't panic, it just cancels out our absurd boost from Unholy Might (1.25 x 0.8 = 1, basic math skills).
    Obliterate got a baseline damage boost too, not that it's all that interesting.

    JUNE 19TH
    GC posted on a DK forum about the difficulties of balancing Shadow of Death.
    He also posted on Zarhym's new class analysis forum that the offhand damage bonus from Threat of Thassarian is due to be removed, and... something about pets.

    JUNE 20TH: BUILD 15781
    Threat of Thassarian no longer increases offhand damage.
    Oh, and there was a tooltip change for Rune Strike, since the "1-sec GCD" thing was redundant.
    GC continues to post on the class analysis forum, saying that Army should be receiving buffs, Gargoyle has some scaling issues and Frost's damage is a little high.

    JUNE 21ST
    GC continues to post on the class analysis forum, unveiling a plan for certain encounters to reset the CD on abilities after a wipe. He names Summon Doomguard, so that probably means Army!

    JUNE 22ND
    GC continues to post on the class analysis forum, stating that there are suspicions that Death Strike's damage is too low.

    JUNE 25TH
    GC continues to post on the class analysis forum, noting that Gargoyle should benefit from Haste and Frost weapon twisting will be dealt with.

    JUNE 26TH
    GC continues to post on the class analysis forum, dancing around the effects of Haste on rune regeneration speed.

    JUNE 28TH: BUILD 15799
    Veteran of the Third War now increases dodge chance by 2%.
    Frost Strike, Obliterate and Howling Blast received slight numbers nerfs, including a nerf to or altogether loss of base damage (the part that doesn't scale with your weapon). "It's like 1000 damage off of 30k, you're fine."

    JUNE 29TH
    GC continues to post on the class analysis forum, implying that they'll take a look at Blood and Unholy's AoE.

    JUNE 30TH
    GC continues to post on the class analysis forum, saying that Heart Strike and Death Strike are getting closer and Gargoyle isn't intended to scale with Unholy Presence, and also giving more specifics on pet scaling.

    JULY 1ST
    GC continues to post on the class analysis forum, further discussing the Gargoyle's AI, revealing that the Ghoul will scale with Unholy Presence, Dancing Rune Weapon and Death & Decay are bugged, and they don't like cooldowns (such as Unholy Frenzy and Gargoyle) lining up.

    JULY 2ND
    GC continues to post on the class analysis forum, saying that they will look into Soul Reaper's Death Rune cost again, talking about their last Tier 75 simulation, and then... I don't even know anymore.

    JULY 3RD
    GC continues to post on the class analysis forum, confessing that he has no idea what we're talking about anymore, but here's more pet info and Bloodworms will be fixed next patch.

    JULY 5TH
    GC continues to post on the class analysis forum, revealing the devs' numbers behind Soul Reaper and Tier 75's interaction, and talking about Runic Corruption (I think he means Empowerment) and his general disagreement with any class issues.

    JULY 6TH
    GC continues to post on the class analysis forum, revealing that Runic Corruption is bugged and Rime is not.

    JULY 9TH
    GC continues to post on the class analysis forum, explaining the change to Rime procs and his stance on Vengeance and discussing AOE and a possible bug with involving self-healing and threat generation. And something about tanking.
    In addition, GC posted on a DK forum saying that they're considering changing the cost of Soul Reaper to Runic Power! Although DeSi and NS are still screwed.

    JULY 10TH
    GC continues to post on the class analysis forum, discussing the removal of 30 second Outbreaks, and AoE mechanics.

    JULY 11TH
    GC continues to post on the class analysis forum, announcing that they're considering options to aid Blood DK disease upkeep, including a possible Glyph of Disease-like change to Blood Boil, and that they're still not sure about SR being an RP dump.

    JULY 12TH
    GC continues to post on the class analysis forum, hinting towards a potential redesign to Soul Reaper.

    JULY 13TH: BUILD 15851

    The war on Soul Reaper is finally over, as it now changes its Rune cost based on what spec you're using: Blood, Frost, or Unholy.
    Blood Boil and Death Strike got buffed while Heart Strike got nerfed. It just redistributes Blood's damage to encourage the use of Death Strike, and increases Blood threat and Unholy's AoE burst.
    Hidden change: Scourge Strike also deals more Shadow damage per disease- 25% from 18%.
    Raise Ally now only rezzes targets with 20% mana, down from 60%.
    ...Oh, and that pet battle thing got implemented, but who cares about that?
    After all this, there can't be any downside, right? Eh, not quite.
    Blood Tap is now on the GCD. Cue explosion in 3... 2...
    GC continues to post on the class analysis forum, revealing that the addition of Blood Tap to the GCD is intended, and discussing Army of the Dead damage.

    JULY 16TH
    GC continues to post on the class analysis forum, stating that Necrotic Strike will be buffed, the Gargoyle is working as intended, and discussing a lot of confusing contradictory stuff about pets in general.

    JULY 17TH
    GC continues to post on the class analysis forum, further enforcing that Gargoyle is working as intended, the Ghoul's energy-spending will be fixed, and Blood is looking... just... swell... Oh, crap.

    JULY 18TH: BUILD 15882
    Scarlet Fever now refreshes diseases on targets affected by Blood Boil. In other words, it's the return of Glyph of Disease.
    Reaping now includes Blood Boil, making Roiling Blood a competitive choice for Unholy and bringing interesting implications to AoE.
    Necrotic Strike got a numbers boost. Meh.
    GC continues to post on the class analysis forum, in which he confirms a few items in this build (and some possible Blood-lovin in the future), but also explains that Blood Rites and Reaping will be debugged (but Plague Leech and Blood Tap will not), allowing Unholy to spam Blood Boil in AoE.

    JULY 20TH
    GC continues to post on the class analysis forum, stating that Ghoul energy and Reaping are currently broken but fixed next build.

    JULY 26TH
    Crithto posts in GC's stead on the class analysis forum, officially calling our Gargoyle "Gary". And, y'know, giving away the numbers behind Gargoyle's scaling.

    JULY 27TH: BUILD 15913
    Primarily a numbers adjustment patch. DoT scaling changes, Blood Shield/Rune Strike/Scourge Strike tooltips fixed, Ghoul energy regen should scale with Haste now. All in all, boring.

    AUGUST 2ND: BUILD 15929
    The most dry patch of beta for us (that had any changes at all), just a tooltip fix on Blood Boil.

    AUGUST 3RD
    Zarhym posted on the class analysis forum, stating that there will be a bug fix for Roiling Blood in the next build.

    AUGUST 4TH
    Rygarius posted on the class analysis forum, noting that Bloodworms scaling will be fixed and Blood Tap is off the GCD next build. Also, shoutout to Mione!

    AUGUST 7TH
    GC continues to post on the class analysis forum, announcing some changes to Vengeance (relevant to Blood DKs too, ofc). Boils down to: Vengeance is based on the DPS you're taking, not your HP, and it no longer has a cap. In addition, he explains that we'll be receiving our number adjustments in a future patch rather than the build released today.

    AUGUST 8TH
    GC continues to post on the class analysis forum, revealing that Crimson Scourge will be returning for Blood DKs, with the added bonus of affecting Death and Decay as well! It doesn't affect DnD's CD and has a 15 sec duration.

    AUGUST 10TH: BUILD 15961

    Small patch, but Horn of Winter now affects everything in 100 yards rather than 45 yards.
    Blood Tap is back off the GCD.
    Also, Soul Reaper's haste bonus got an aesthetic buff, pictured above.
    Run under the assumption that this is not what GC meant when he said major DK changes were still coming.
    GC continues to post on the class analysis forum, apologizing for the broken state of rune regeneration in the current build. Watcher says they're working on a hotfix, but we'll miss today's raid testing as a result.

    AUGUST 14TH: BUILD 15972
    Our numbers-adjustment patch has finally arrived. To sum up:
    Death Coil, Festering Strike and Scourge Strike were all nerfed pretty hard.
    Unholy Might was nerfed to 15% Strength. No word on a change to AMZ yet.
    Death Strike, Rune Strike and Heart Strike were all buffed, making a buff for Blood damage.
    Crimson Scourge has returned to Blood, a buff for Blood's AoE threat and many open GCDs.
    The new Vengeance tooltip has been implemented.
    Might of the Frozen Wastes was nerfed down to 40% Obliterate damage.
    Orc racial Command was nerfed to 2% pet damage.
    GC continues to post on the class analysis forum, admitting that he just might have overdone it on tuning down Unholy's damage.

    AUGUST 16TH: BUILD 15983
    Diseases got a pretty big damage buff, especially Frost Fever (though the consensus is that Frost Fever seems... unintentionally high).
    Crimson Scourge increases Blood Boil's damage by 20% down from 40%, as it was legitimately too high before.
    Icy Talons now increases Haste by 35% for Frost, up from 20%.
    GC continues to post on the class analysis forum, briefly discussing the scaling of Anti-Magic Zone.

    AUGUST 17TH: BUILD 16004

    Visual change to Death Siphon around this point (though we could have missed it before).
    Otherwise, this patch seems mostly about reverting our recent nerfs:
    Death Coil's damage has gone up.
    Heart Strike's damage has gone up.
    Crimson Scourge once again increases Blood Boil by 40%. Real roller coaster there.
    Frost Fever was nerfed, since it was FAR too high due to a typo.
    Anti-Magic Zone's scaling was changed so that Unholy would stay with Frost and Blood.
    GC continues to post on the class analysis forum, discussing Frost numbers and disease damage, and says that Frost Fever is unintentionally benefiting from Spell Crit rather than Melee Crit.

    AUGUST 21ST: BUILD 16010
    Icy Talons was nerfed down to 25%, presumably to make it more even with Unholy. Still a buff from before, of course.

    AUGUST 22ND: BUILD 16016
    Icy Talons was nerfed back down to 20%.
    Frost Strike and Obliterate got smallish weapon scaling nerfs.
    Crithto posted in part 2 of the class analysis forum that they're unaware of any 1.2 multiplier on Death Coil, much less that it isn't working (though as other posters pointed out, it's probably just base mastery).

    AUGUST 29TH
    Ghostcrawler posted in part 2 of the class analysis forum, talking about recent stealth number adjustments: Howling Blast's AoE damage went up, Frost Strike's damage went down for DW, Blood Presence's stamina modifier went up. He also listed some ICDs on procs, including Killing Machine (6 PPM) and Sudden Doom (3 PPM).

    AUGUST 30TH: BUILD 16030
    This build pretty much just covers what GC said before- ToT's FS modifier went down and BP's stam went up.
    Ghostcrawler posted in part 2 of the class analysis forum, stating that the CDs on Army and ERW wouldn't be reset by a wipe... and then redacted it after having his office stormed. Justice!

    AUGUST 31ST
    Ghostcrawler posted in a DK thread warning of incoming Blood nerfs- we can survive damage spikes as intended now, but we require too little healing.

    SEPTEMBER 4TH
    Ghostcrawler posted in part 2 of the class analysis forum (among others) that they now believe DKs are in-line with Paladins and are not expected to be nerfed further.

    SEPTEMBER 6TH: BUILD 16048
    Death Strike's damage went up as Heart Strike's damage went down, presumably in an attempt to undo 16004's buffs to Heart Strike. Or maybe just to buff Death Strike for everyone. Meh. However, with Scourge Strike's recent nerfs, DS is looking mighty appealing to Unholy.
    Not included in the patch notes was a stealth nerf to Blood Boil, so it's out of Blood's single-target rotation even with this nerf to HS, but now it's looking worse for Unholy's AoE as well.

    SEPTEMBER 9TH
    Ghostcrawler tweeted about Killing Machine. (Okay, that felt weird. I swear I'm not stalking GC, just everything he says about DKs. Like that's any better.)

    SEPTEMBER 10TH
    Ghostcrawler posted in part 2 of the class analysis forum, stating that they nerfed Death Strike for Frost and Unholy, altered Blood Boil's scaling for Blood, have no problem with Blood's trade-offs between survival and damage, and might make the "buff" to Death Strike for Blood more visible from the spellbook.

    SEPTEMBER 11TH: DEVELOPER REDDIT Q&A

    The devs held a Q&A session on Reddit. Details relevant to DKs are that they don't have any plans to change Runeforging just yet, and that combat racials for some races (presumably Night Elves, Tauren, Gnomes and Blood Elves, if not others) will be improved. A full summary can be found on chaud's news post.

    SEPTEMBER 12TH
    Ghostcrawler posted in part 2 of the class analysis forum discussing tooltips for Death Strike.

    SEPTEMBER 13TH
    Ghostcrawler posted in part 2 of the class analysis forum, talking about Blood Boil's damage for Unholy. He also dropped a line on Twitter about why Hungering Cold was removed (the irony of his response not being lost on me), as well as about DW Tanking.

    Raise Ally got buffed to 60%

    Dark Simulacrum 30 Second CD on Dark Sim, that is gonna be fun
    Death and Decay 50% slow on DnD
    Death Coil Death coil bubbles non-undead allys, I wonder if this can be self cast(even tho it says allys)
    Enduring Infection undispellable diseases, but 30% less damage
    Icy Touch Icy touch dispells magic effects, will this roll over into HB aswell or do frost get screwed here?
    Shifting Presences Save 50% of runic power on pres change
    Tranquil Grip Death Grip doesnt taunt, I cant count how many times I fat finger DG on the wrong target and die in PvE

    Symbiosis
    Wild Mushroom: Plague not sure what combo gets this one tho

    So far just the placeholder for it. But it's not just one spell, it's actually 12 spells- 1 for every combination of DK spec-Druid spec.

    Was there a boss you had to dispell magic effects lately? Not defensive dispell, but offensive. I don't think my PvE Shaman got Purge on his bar... Last "meaningful" use of a dispell ability I remember is in heroic deadmines the CC immunity of the blood mage thinggies.

    And I don't think the purge effect will be mirrored to HB. Far too powerful.

    I think the point is they're trying to make it a widespread-enough ability that they CAN put into encounters again, as in not laying it all on healers -- so they can balance raids around the assumption that offensive dispelling is not going to be only the healer's responsibility.

    I dunno, just trying to think of what their reasoning is.

    I love how they change the way glyph works for MoP, instead of just a place and forget thing (unless you keep on changing spec) it's an actual way to customise our characters to fit our playstyle/situation and we actually have to put some thought into the glyph selection.

    I'm guessing it's mostly for PvP, but there'll be some odd encounters (a raid boss per tier or some random mobs in hcs) where it's useful for PvE.
