[Official] Compiled Warlock Changes in MoP Beta

I will be putting ALL of the Warlock changes in this thread, so even if you have known about changes since Blizzcon, please don't keep pointing it out. This thread is meant to provide everyone with info, including those that haven't looked into the changes at all.

Keep any discussion respectful and constructive please.

    Spell Changes

    • All pets do the same amount of DPS, leaving you to choose your pet based on personal preference and utility (***)
    • All specs use Shadowbolt at level 1, which changes to a new spell based on your spec choice at 42, now a 1.7 sec cast with slightly less damage than the 2.5 version
    • Malady has been removed from the game, all specs now have Corruption to start with, at level 12 Immolate replaces Corruption for Destruction while Affliction and Demonology keep using Corruption
    • There is now only Fel Armor, which is a passive effect and cannot be toggled
    • Curse of Tongues and Weakness have been combined into Curse of Enfeeblement
    • Soulstone is finally a targeted spell, not spell to summon a Soulstone, now has a base res of 60%, can be glyphed to 100%
    • Nether Ward is now Twilight Ward
    • Bane of Doom has been removed, it is now a glyph and replaces Corruption
    • All specs get a new defensive CD, Unending Resolve
    • Fel Flame now increases the duration of Corruption, Unstable Affliction, and Immolate
    • Dark Intent is now a raid wide 5% spellpower buff
    • New Level 87 Ability: Demonic Gateway, summons two portals between your and your targeted location, letting any raid member instantly teleport to the other location, limit of 5 charges, 1 charge generated every 15 seconds
    • There seems to be a new ability called Command Demon, which activated your Demon's special ability
    • A new mechanic called Everlasting Affliction is in game, it works for channeled spells, and all DoTs except for Immolate
    • Healthstones now have 3 charges and work like a Mage's mana gem
    • Soul Harvest has been redesigned; now regenerates 2% health every second while out of combat, disabled in arenas
    • Demon Soul has been changed to Dark Soul, Dark Soul is spec specific and has a 2 min CD
    Talents

    • Level 15
      • Dark Regeneration; The healing done and healing received buff both take place over the 12 seconds, the 30% heal is also effected by the new passive Fel Armor AND by the 25% healing received buff, now also heals your pet
      • Soul Leech; This talent does not seem to include Demonic Slash while in Meta
      • Harvest Life; AoE Drain Life that scales with the number of targets it hits, replaces Drain Life
    • Level 30
      • Howl of Terror; The only change to this ability is that the CD will now be removed by 1 sec whenever you're hit by a damaging attack. Can anybody clarify if this effect has an ICD and which abilities it does/doesn't work with. Do only direct spells trigger it or does AoE count as well?
      • Mortal Coil; changed to always grant the health, regardless of the target gaining the horror effect or not. The 45 sec CD compared to the 1min 30sec CD for the old Death Coil is also notable.
      • Shadowfury; now has a 30 sec CD
    • Level 45
      • Soul Link; It is important to note that it now also shares healing taken with the Demon, instead of just damage taken. It also works in reverse now, where any pet damage/healing is shared with the Warlock.
      • Sacrificial Pact; Recently changed to sacrifice the Warlocks health is no demon is active.
      • Dark Bargain; The damage taken over 20 seconds does not seem to be reduced through additional effects such as Unending Resolve. Can anybody confirm/deny this?
    • Level 60 (None of these damaging effects are affected by damaging reducing effects, just like Life Tap. You also seem to be unable to kill yourself by using them, and cannot activate them if you do not have the required health.)
      • Blood Fear; Taking this talent replaces Fear, meaning we do not have a choice between an instant health costing fear and a cast time regular Fear if we take this talent.
      • Burning Rush; Can anybody confirm/deny if this stacks with other speed buffs like Soulburn: Teleport, Worgen Sprint, etc.? Works exactly like other toggle effects, where hitting the button once activates it and hitting it twice deactivates it. Can anybody clarify if you can toggle this off while in a stun/disorient/silence etc? Also, does it break effects that break on damage?
      • Unbound Will; Works exactly like Every Man for Himself and the PvP trinkets. No CD.
    • Level 75
      • Grimoir of Supremacy; See Pets section for changes to pets. Also turns your Doom Guard into a Terror Guard and your Infernal into an Abyssal.
      • Grimoir of Service; Summons a copy of your active pet. This copy will use its special damaging ability (Shadow Bite, Torment, etc) immediately upon activation. I believe you will be able to use its secondary ability (Spell Lock, Singe Magic etc) on command, but I haven't been able to confirm this. These pets also snapshot your stats just like the Doom Guard and Infernal.
      • Grimoir of Sacrifice; Note that it gives a 30% increase for the first 15 seconds after sacrificing your pet, now only affects direct damage spells but also heals you for 2% max health every 5 seconds
    • Level 90
      • Archimonde's Vengeance; Pretty straight forward, note that the porcupine effect is not active while on CD
      • Kil'jaeden's Cunning; Now changed to have a 60 sec CD during which there is no penalty for moving and casting. Passively gives the benefit of being able to cast while moving but increases cast time and channel period by 50% and reduces movement speed by 20%. This effect will only be active while not on CD.
      • Mannoroth's Fury; This works for basically every spell that is not single target, including RoF, SoC, Hellfire/Immolation Aura, Soulburn: Curse, Meta: Cursed Auras, etc.

    • Soul Shards & Soulburn are now Affliction only

        • Healthstone

    • Meta no longer snapshots your stats and now updates them dynamically

    • All pet spells become instant while in Meta and cost 250 Demonic Fury; any pet you summon during Meta will be put on a 1min CD.
    • Pet special attacks generate 24 Demonic Fury

    • Breath of Gul'dan is the new Shadowflame, shares a CD/charges with Hand of Gul'dan
    • Molten Core is back in the game, your Shadowflame and Wild Imps have a 5% chance to trigger Molten Core, reduced the cast time and mana cost of your next Soul Fire by 50%, also increases the Demonic Fury gain from Soul Fire

    • Mastery: no longer increases the benefit from Demonic Fury, instead increases damage while in caster form
    • Wild Imps; no longer a casted abiity, your Shadowbolt hits summon a Wild Imp, can occur every 20 seconds, each Wild Imp will cast 10 Firebolts that generate 5 Demonic Fury each
    • Touch of Chaos is the new auto attack while in Meta
    • You can still channel Hellfire while moving

    Destruction

    • Chaotic Energy is a new Destruction mechanic that increases mana regen by 650% and spell haste increases mana regen, replaces Life Tap
    • Destruction now has a new resource called Burning Embers, no longer deals damage to you
      • Embers tick down quickly when out of combat
      • Spells that gain Burning Embers

        • Ember Tap, heals you for 27% of your HP (***) maximum HP or current HP?

    • Backdraft affects Incinerate, reduces the cast time by 30%, 3 charges, still triggered by Conflagrate

If anybody could figure out the rate of burning ember generation, soul fire cast time, burning ember cap and mana usage/regen for destro, that would be AMAZING.

  7. #7
Hmm1, changes I expect to see

    Haunt: It seems kind of awkward to have it on 60 secs CD because you need to use a shard, it only last for 8 secs while the damage buff is so high and it has a cast time;
    Nightfall: the proc seems kind of low for a ability that should be our main way to get shards, being forced to use drain soul just to get back shards would be to awkward;
    Demonic Gateway: Seems kind of useless for pve and mostly meant for pvp. Kind of disappointing in getting your max level class ability which you can only use for pvp. Even if they changed the restrictions the ability still has no place in PVE because almost every class has a way to move to a different point fast;

Removal of Soul Harverst: It is a powerful ability and thanks to soul harvest I never have to drink or eat. But right now we take to much damage when we quest and when we life tap during a dungeon, they should keep it because warlocks right now are the only class that damages themselves even when we do simple stuff.

I saw a dude streaming some Warlock stuff earlier. I'll try to find it. Destro looked so badass.

    Found it:
    http://www.twitch.tv/hamanard

Live streaming is done for now it seems (lol it looks like he went for 11 hours straight), but he kept archives. I think the most recent one shows off Destro.
And yep, it is. Skip to about 9 minutes to see him hit the target dummies.

    God, so sick ...

This guy ... is actually not very knowledgeable about the upcoming changes we're already aware of, actually. Still, good footage.

Fixed the links, now I shall cry over the death of Destruction. 4 second Soul Fire is simply not cool Blizz.

right now i am really disappointed by the warlock after playing a few hours . warlock is/was by far the most entertaining class in cata (all three specs), but they took so much stuff away, which made the difference between a good and an average warlock. i love the warlock with all strengths and weaknesses. if there are classes or specs like the arcane mage, who pushes one button for five minutes and does as much dps as my warlock its fine with me. or the shadow priest and the moonkin dots, which dont depend on additional debuffs like haunt/3xSE.
i dont care about all the shiny new spells or glyphs for visual changes if the actual roation is so easy that even retards cant fuck it up :X

but its only the beginning of the beta and there will be many changes. there are many broken things (in a good and bad way), which will be fixed the next few days or weeks. right now the main concern for blizzard is the pandaren starting area.
so i will wait patiently and hope for the best

My main concern is destruction at this point in time. If soul fire is a 4 second cast, it shows that blizzard has truly not learned ANYTHING from cata. ISF and hard casting a core rotation spell for 2.5 seconds was one of the worst received warlock changes for cata and kept many people from playing the spec.

There is NOTHING fun about hard casting soul fire for 4 seconds. I am 100% sure that not a single rational warlock would find this fun. It would seem that putting in a mechanic that is almost universally received as not fun is a big FUCK YOU from blizz.

soulfire cast time is reduced by your imp firebolt

    lvl 86:

    Destructive Influence (Passive)

Your demon's attacks reduce the casting time of your next Soul Fire by 0.1 sec. Stacks up to 40 times.

I actually thought that Destruction and Demonology were/are pretty bad in Cata (they were great in LK), so I welcome the changes, and am only a little worried about the changes to Affliction, because I like how the spec currently works.

About the long Soul Fire cast in MoP, I think it might work. Yes, people hate casting Soul Fire now, but that's because it only serves to get a major buff up and the spell itself does little damage. But from what I've seen in the beta, Soul Fire is a huge damage spell, so it still is a long cast, but a very rewarding long cast, and it is not used just to keep up an annoying timed buff. Also, one of the currents problems with Destru is keeping all the DoTs up, which made the spec feel similar to the other specs. This apparently will also be solved in MoP.

Anyway, I was wondering if the new buffs have already been implemented in the beta. If so, how do the warlock SP and Stamina buffs work? Now every spec should be able to give those buff, but are they dependent on which demon you choose (i.e. Stamina only with imp, SP only with a specific demon)? Or can you award the buffs irregardless of demon choice?

The tooltip on fel flame is incorrect, it currently refreshes both corr and ua.

Everlasting affliction also works for corr for demo spec, not sure if it does anything for immo as destro. MG/life drain are empowered channels, which is similar to how everlasting affliction works, but not quite. Corr/ua have an 18s duration, casting them again will bump it up to 24s. Empowered channels also increase their duration, but will add their full duration onto the current duration, up to 5 times. So if you keep casting MG, it will turn into a 15s channel.

Dark intent is still baseline and all specs can use it. Still only get stam buff when you have an imp out.

Demonic Gateway sounds nice. Without knowing what it looks like, I already like it, since it will most propably remove the ugly as shit summoning stone.

    *edit*
Oh damn it has a range of lousy 70 yards.
    There go my hopes.

I checked all spells/talents/spec mechanics and looked at how the work together before posting.

Soul fire serves two purposes; burning ember dump and mana regen during the cast. DI gives an instant soul fire for ember dump purposes. It does not address the need to then hard cast another soul fire in order to regen mana. It also causes another problem once you look at grimoir of sacrifice. You cannot take that talent as destro unless you want to miss out on destructive influence.

Didnt you get some skill at lvl 86 that reduces your Sf cast? It was like "every time your pet hits target with attack it reduces Sf cast time 0.1 sec. Stacks up to 40 times".

Demonic Gateway creates two portals, one where you stand, the other where you target it. It then lets you and any party/raid member port instantly from one gateway to the other. It doesn't have anything to do with our summoning stone.
