Pet battle info Compilation: Wild pets, Stats, Abilities, Vids/pics etc!

    General Pet Battle Info:

*There will be about 100 wild pets from all over Azeroth to collect!
*Account wide pets have been confirmed. All your characters will have access to all of your pets. This will cut down on switching between characters to level up a certain pet.
*The pet UI will be updated to show you a list of all the pets you currently have and the pets that you don't have. In the case of the companions that you're missing, it will show you where to find those pets.
*The pets that you own will have a corresponding "pet card" that will show all the information about said pet. Such information includes mini-pet health, level, attack, defense and movement speed values.
*You will be able to rename all of your companions.
*Developers are considering allowing players to grow their own mini-pets on personal farms within the Valley of the Four Winds.
*Each mini-pet will have 6 abilities that players can choose pre-battle. Much like player leveling, as your companion levels up it will unlock more abilities. Also like a player talent tree, you can only choose one ability per row of talents for your pet.
*Entering into a Pet Battle, you will see your opponent and the three pets you will be fighting against, but you will NOT see your opponent's name or be able to communicate with them.
*While in a Pet Battle, you will be able to switch between the three pets you've chosen to fight, and they will dutifully run up to your opponent's pet to attack it.
*Pets have four stats: health, attack, defense, and movement, which acts like an initiative roll, deciding who attacks first.
*Challenging another player in the open world will switch you into a unique zoomed in view. Once combat is over it will return you to a normal gameplay camera view.
*In addition to being able to queue into a queuing system and duel other players in the open world, there will be NPCs and critters that you can enter combat with to help level your mini-pets.
*Unlike PVP, your Pet Battles stats will only show you how many games you've won. Information on losses will not be available.
*Pet Battles using smartphone apps (World of Warcraft Remote) is something that Blizzard would like to implement someday.

A look at the pet battle skill selection system (BETA):

-Each pet has 6 skills and 3 active skill slots.
-Each active skill slot allows the players to choose between 2 skills.
-The 3 skills chosen will be what you battle with until you change them again.
-You can change the 3 skills in your active slots out anytime as long as you aren't in battle.

Here's a look at the system:

Note: If you can't read the text on Onyxian Whelplings last 4 skills they are (in order, left to right):

    Tail Sweep
    Burnt Earth
    Healing Flame
    Lift-Off

    Update 7/4/12[Beta]:

You can now mouse-over skills in your pet journal and a few pets have some stats, also the icons have changed a little bit

There were also new pets added such as:

Thanks to Wamo over at http://www.warcraftpets.com for the pics!

    New Pet Battle abilities:

Pets with talents as of 5th of april [Beta]:

The left side abilities look to be the tier 1 abilities that will be learned earlier then the right side (tier 2 abilities). Each active ability slot has a tier 1 and tier 2 ability which players can switch between when not in battle.

"Preview of Pet Journal & Account Wide Collections:

    Pet Journal:
    - It lists all of your currently owned pets plus all the pets you do not have (greyed out).
    - Wild pets are listed and you can preview their models. There's a button for "Info" on the wild pets, but so far it

    doesn't do anything.
    - You can add three pets to your battle team, and it will show what abilities each of the pets have as well as their level.
    - There's a filter to help sort your pets by class/category and collected/not collected/favorites.
    - There's a summon random pet button, but it currently doesn't work.
    - The Pet Journal acts as the "stable" for account wide collections. You can access your main collector's pets from the journal on any alt (works cross server too, I think).

    Account Wide Collections:
    - Cross faction pets DO work! Gnomes with Horde Balloons, anyone?
    - Atm, duplicate pets are combined into one that's available to all toons on your account. (Example: I have a Perky Pug on my druid and a Perky Pug on my shaman. I don't get two Perky Pugs. Instead they're combined and I only have access to one through the Pet Journal.)"

This is a nice find. Looking forward to see more of this.

I do hope however that you'll recieve some sort of bonus for having, say, a full water team or something. Would be cool to focus mainly on one type without being too gimped.
You cannot do that while stunned.

    You are dead.

Interesting, thanks. I personally hope that it isn't terribly grindy to level pets, because I'm pretty OCD about this type of stuff, and I don't want to spend all my time in MoP leveling up 400 different pets. :P

  4. #4
the lashling stats are different to others which is a bit odd, wonder how many different types there are (if i knew them all i could update the list).

  5. #5
Holy crap, this pet battle system is actually pretty in depth.

They can model it after real pokemon, where very rare pokemon tend to b.e better stat wise, with pokemon that are stupidly common being bad

adds strategy imo, also updated OP with list of abilities. Haven't found any/many mythical/humanoid abilities yet.

Actually that is what makes the game so awesome. If it was just stat vs. stat then why would you ever need to change your pets out... it is nice to have to have a myriad of pets to choose from because it makes the game much more complex. The more complex, the tougher it is to master, which keeps those of us that like it interested, and always striving to improve. It is a full fledged game within a game. They can call this a mini-game, fine, but then that makes WoW a meta-game.

I get the point you're trying to make, but they won't do this. I guarantee Blizz Store pets will not carry significant advantage over every pet. At the worst, there will be tiers of pet quality, and the top tier will be shared by a very select, difficult-to-get in-game/free/whatever pets, but comprised also mostly of, yes, Blizz Store pets, Collector's Edition pets, and Blizzcon pets -- although I don't think all of those types will automatically be at the highest tier of pet quality.

My Celestial Dragon says "Hi, I'm ready to dine on your tears.... so delicious!"

I can imagine that he will definitely be up there on the power scale.

Oh god, facing the decision of picking between my 23094823094 pets...

So now that we have (slightly) more definitive info, I am left to wonder what pets will not be able to battle. I hope Blizzard doesn't attempt to balance pets at all

Wow... Got to say I'm actually impressed that the pets will have their own individual stats!

I seriously thought they were just going to make it pets with the same stats accross the board, with attacks that share all the same stats (named and have different effects from each other) but allow their "Genus" to be the only variable (Mechanicals to be strong against "nature" or something like that.)

Right now, they DO have that... but pets get extra stats, such as Health, Speed, Attack, Defense, magic and damage.

That's more than I thought they would do, and I'm happy! ^_^

Not to mention the pets really do have a lot of variety: The Lashling stats are kinda weird as they only get 3 stats (magic, damage, health) vs, say, a yeti that gets four (Health, attack, speed, defense).

Does that mean the Lashling will have magic defenses to make up for the lack of a defense stat?

Also, what's the difference between a "damage" stat and an "Attack" stat?
