It's all about the money - Professions?

    Hello.

I have never been to good with money in World of Warcraft sadly. And I wonder, I wish to try to gain some money as we are headed towards the Mists of Pandaria (So exited!)

I am rerolling to a blood elf huntress, since I really enjoy that class, and it is the one class I feel really confident with. But what professions can one pick for a nice profit, and also how does one make a nice profit?

I realize with gathering I gather and then AH them, but what profession might be good other than gathering, keeping in mind I am not one to stand in Orgrimmar all day in the tradechat, that would bore me to death.

So, good professions and tips will be loved.

Also I hope I made this thread in the right place, if not I apologize

    Thanks for reading.

It's hard to predict what will happen in MoP, but currently being a JC and enchanter is pretty profitable if the ore prices on your server are relatively low and the demand for gems / enchanting mats are steady. Basically you prospect tons of cheap ore, sell the worthwhile gems (usually just rubies) on the AH, and make the JC jewelry out of the green-quality gems. Those are then disenchanted and sold as enchanting mats.

It really depends on your server's economy, though. Some people claim to make thousands just farming raw mats, some by selling popular transmog items, etc.

I typically make about 2k a week just selling raw gems and enchant mats, I'm currently the one setting ore prices however on my server a sI have 3 bank toons with 7 tab banks filled with ore..>> So if you can't do that, follow Relentless's advice, check out your servers economy and make your choice from that. A JC makes decent money, though start up captial if you choose to power level it will be high, farming the mats to level it can take forever. HErbalism is typically pretty good and Alchemy is a nice profitable profession that fits well with Alchemy. Potions and Flasks sell decently, though the market for them fluctuates quite a bit.

If copper sells good on your server, you could just go with mining and sells ores, since BS and JC use them in extreme quantities (not just copper, every ore is devoured by those professions).

I have 2.2 million gold and co-host a podcast that prominently discusses gold making so I consider myself a bit of an expert on the situation.

While it does vary from server to server, I can tell you that JC is by far the best way to make gold in this game. Inscription is another great way to make gold but is labor intensive and I no long do it for that reason. I spend about 30 minutes a day and focus on high "gold per hour" activities. JC matched with a xmute specialist alchemist is great because you can xmute shadowspirit diamonds and inferno rubies and then cut them to make extra profits. BSing, LWing, and tailoring are decent too. Focus on item enhancements like leg armors, spellthreads, and belt buckles that people need more than one of these items throughout a patch vs. selling crafted epic items (which are riskier because you invest so much more gold up front in them). Get yourself some good AH addons to reduce the time spent doing all this (I can post 500 auctions in about 1 minute...6 minutes if I have to empty out my mailbox first).

Gathering professions are terrible "gold per hour" activities. During Firelands I did some experimenting and found that the best gathering profession let you make $1,500 per hour on my server. Meanwhile, I was making 8-10k gold per hour doing my AH stuff...it is so much more efficient especially once you start leveraging multiple professions. Farming is low risk though so it appeals to some. However, I do not suggest doing them except for maybe the first month or so of an xpac...but honestly do you want to spend your first month of MoP farming or exploring the new content?

If you want more info, send me a private message. I did an interview for wowecon.com that goes into detail how I make gold and what addons I use but I don't think I can link it here because it may be against MMO Champions TOS (I remember getting a slap on the wrist once for specifically pointing someone to my podcast for info so I am guessing it is the same thing).

I am the co-host of a WoW related podcast at www.warcraftlounge.com. Check it out for tips on making gold, commentary on general WoW news, and entertaining recaps of the stupid shit that has happened to us in game. You mean a hunter?

OT: once MoP hits for the first couple weeks or so, the gathering professions (skinning, herbalism, mining) will be the major money makers I think. After the initial gold rush, who know. Having them all is the best, though

also, learn to play the AH...that's where the real money is

Drakkmur, you really did sum things up quite nicely.

About 1,000 - 1,500 gold per hour seems to be about normal for my server as well for the gathering professions. (I've tried fishing, mining, skinning, herbing, etc). The only thing I've been able to find that does consistently better than that is farming cloth on my tailor with a treasure finding potion. That's not like a lot better or anything, but every little helps.

Also, just something a little more random that hasn't been mentioned yet, how is the transmog market on your server Daphne?

Someone on this board mentioned it to me at one point. I hadn't thought of it before, but felt compelled to try it out. There are a number of items that can sell quite well. So I've gone to collecting sets, and then selling them either over trade chat or on the AH once I get all the pieces. It's been very good to me the last few weeks. I'll scan the AH really fast for certain items I know I can resell well, and then go out and farm an older instance or two to stretch my legs a little.

It's inconsistent for sure, but if some of those items can go for ridiculously high prices if you find them. Also as a bonus, rarer enchanting mats do well on my server, and of course I'll keep some of the items for sets I want to collect.

Huntress is the female version of Hunter.

Most of my gold I make with inscription- this involves listing in hundreds of "markets", each only a couple glyphs deep. I agree that Jewelcrafting is better, however, and am positioning myself to have one of those in the future.

The real thing is this- you want to focus on things that are consumable and controllable. If you run around killing random mobs, you may in fact get a purple worth a lot, but the odds are very low- you can't reliably repeat it. You also gain raw gold, but in tiny amounts.

Gathering professions should not be discounted entirely. For many players, they offer a path to just enough wealth to work, and they are not as injured when sentient bots (aka, AH goblins) come crashing in and spam undercut you, which is the fate on many servers. Everyone on my server who is sitting above a million gold got there by blowing other people out of the economy, and acting to inflate goods artificially (for instance, when I need a gem cut, I almost always have a guildy do it for no fee)- I'm not judging this, but there is simply a limited number of spaces in every economy for such robber baron levels of activities, but someone actually does need to collect the raw gems, etc.

Each server lives in its own place as well. Your server may not have any one providing some service, and you walking into that vacuum with value can make you a ton of gold.

this is a very good point. A while back there was no one on my server covering the fortune cookie market and several of the other foods were WAY over priced, so i made a killing off them for about 4 weeks straight...i still sell em but for nowhere near as much as i did then.

    not in game it isn't
Irrelevant. The game doesn't use gender specific terms, of course it doesn't support actual English.

Anyway, you knew what the poster meant when "huntress" appeared, so don't be silly!

It helps if you undestand how the game works and some basics in economics.
Find as many niches as possible where you can sell stuff for a profit, make sure you are the cheapest and make sure you sell what people want. At the end of an expansion activity dies down. Studying the ah and putting some thought into what you sell is important.
I would have a couple of professions.

Aim for getting a stake of money which you can invest for the expansion. There will be a gold rush at the beginning where all professions can make a profit. Be on that ride and you will make enough money to last you MOP.

While you level I suggest getting 2 gathering proffs, to level faster and so that you have the mats at 85 when you get your crafting proffs.

Also, while not extremely profitable, alchemy is pretty easy.

I've always been able to get a steady flow of gold from it.

JC and enchanting are always good. If you can get another toon I'd suggest xmute alchemist.
Inscription is good if you have all the glyphs and are ready to spend a lot of time reposting.

JC and Enchanting is insane. sometimes like when there has been a new patch you can earn ridiculous amounts of gold.
yesterday i did a test at my server how much i could earn from 10k worth of elementium, turned out i've 3 doubled my gold if i get everything sold, which i easily will because of the high demand.
