Not true. The fall of HDDVD was due to some major porn studio (I don't know which one) siding with Blu-ray over HDDVD. Shortly after that, Wal-mart chose to only stock Blu-ray, effectively killing HDDVD.
Once Toshiba found out about the Wal-mart thing, they pulled HDDVD, giving Blu-ray the market.

This really need to happen. BluRay is the only bit of Tech missing from current gen Xbox. And as for the proposed online always con required, well I havent NOT had a constant connection in about 6 years, apart from a day or 2 here and there.

I just don't like people spreading disinformation

There are some advantages consoles have over PCs (they're still somewhat easier to use, have a lower initial cost of entry, and I'm impressed by what the developers of console games are able to do with outdated hardware), but many of those advantages are starting to fall apart as PCs become more and more advanced while also becoming more and more accessible to the layperson. It used to be that you really had to know a lot about computers to build and maintain one - but not anymore. Honestly, I'm pretty sure even someone with developmental disabilities could build and operate a computer as long as they had easy-to-understand reference materials available.

I can't imagine console makers trying to pull this kind of "online only," thing, because that would put them in direct competition with Valve's juggernaut, Steam. And no one picks a fight with Steam and walks away from it.

All of the rumors regarding the next Xbox have implied that it will require you to be connected to Xbox Live! at all times in order to play games. Basically it's implementing a PC-style DRM system onto a console, and if you're gonna go with all the bullshit that entails, why not just go whole hog and get a PC and use Steam?

All thats been said is that there MIGHT and notice the big fucking caps word MIGHT, be a always online requirement to combat piracy. Now Seeing as this is just a rumor and assumeing MS wouldnt wanna fuck over people who have no net. Im betting IF its true there is a way for people to still play the games offline. but again we dont know becuase its a RUMOR. But yet you guys are flipping your fucking shit over a RUMOR.

If it requires you to be online to play games, they don't need to use bluray, they could make everything DLC, and they could just get rid of Gamestop and put something more useful in the mall like another Claire's for all of the My Little Pony fans.

Of course it will have a Blu-ray drive.

Even if they don't its not like blu-ray is some kind of ground breaking technology, its just a dvd that can store more data, just like how a dvd is a cd that holds more data. Any million dollar company could make there own physical media just as good as blu-ray. HDDVD failed because the porn industry backed blu-ray, otherwise we could have hd-dvds instead of blu-rays right now.

BTW i stream blue ray quality movies to my xbox all the time its not like it cant handle it.

If they do that they would of killed their console for good. If you need to be online to play games, people will just stick to PC, One wrong move and the whole thing with consoles dies. I don't think they'd be willing to risk it, as they would loose money.

Except it's a user friendly PC that's only meant for gaming.....you have no idea how lazy casual gamers can be when it comes to playing their games (not trying to sound condescending or anything)

Download and install it, all there is to it for the PC. I don't see a lazy gamer going out to buy a console that is probably going to cost more than an iPad that's not going to do anything new or groundbreaking, and if anything, goes backwards in technology.

That will be the final blow to game rentals unless they release rental versions to sell to those companies at a higher price.
