    [Shadow] Madness Staff vs Dagger

Hey guys! Just wondering what weapon to use, I got the 390 Staff from madness (http://www.wowhead.com/item=78486) And the 403 Dagger (http://www.wowhead.com/item=77195) Problem is that my off hand is a shitty one from HoT (http://www.wowhead.com/item=72878)

So 390 Staff vs 403 Dagger and 378 offhand ?

Here is my armory btw: http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/characte...Teabone/simple

Dagger and offhand is better, also you are way under hit which is bad.

Currently in my pvp gear I think. my hit is 16.52%

The staff off of Deathwing isn't all that great because you lose out on a lot of secondary stats for the haste proc that is undewhelming at best. The other 384 staves available from Hagara and Blackhorn are better than the 390 Madness staff (same goes for 397 vs 403 and 410 vs 416).

Use the 1H and try to pick up the Raid Finder OH off of Ultraxion.

dagger + off is better for aoe fights
Staff is better for single target fights (the proc is really good)

    It should be 17%
Especially when you get 4 piece.

I'm pretty sure the Lightning Rod isn't available from raid finder.

Benefit of hit inside the last percent is diminished.

    16% hit = 1% chance to miss or 1 in 100 spells
    16.5% hit = 0.5% chance to miss or 1 in 200 spells
    16.75% hit = 0.25% chance to miss or 1 in 400 spells

I think I'm sitting at 16.97% chance to hit, which is pretty damned close to cap - remember that any wasted item level above cap is completely worthless - so being right on it is ideal and being just slightly under it is better than being just slightly over it.

16.97% hit = 0.03% chance to miss, 1 in 3333 spells will miss, that's very very low - way less than once per fight - and since Devouring Plague no longer has a cooldown, losing it means you are 1 GCD behind - not missing it for the next 24 seconds.

Also yea, Lightning Rod off Hagara (I don't think Blackhorn drops it?) only drops in Regular or Heroic, not LFR - same for the 2h axe off Blackhorn I believe - which might be what he meant.

No weapons bar the ones from LFR.
That being said. I picked up the Madness staff on my lock and tested it instead of Stalk of Corruption which is 378 and I actually went ahead an shafted it.
I just can't get around having two haste procs, one being the staff and the other being Insignia. Add to that Eradication from my affliction talents and It's just overkill.
Rather have a static haste on weapon and trinket proc than two at the same time, call me silly I know but that's how I feel.
Got Lightning Rod HC on my priest until I can get lucky to see Ledger HC drop and actually win it so I can go back to using Vagaries HC.
Currently sitting at 16.85% hit and it's doing the job for me.

Honestly, at lower gear levels, especially the one you're sitting at I'd recommend getting above hit cap if possible. As well, the Dagger is hands down much higher DPS. Try and get the offhand off of normal Ultraxion. I can pug it on my server, and we're on one of the worst for pugs.

Hoping for it on HC. farming 6/8 HC every week so :P

The staff is terrible. With the dagger you get the proc and also some stats from your offhand. The proc is not all that great, but it sure beats the staff.

Not true. The staff is shit for single target too.

Dagger is far superior on all fights.

Wish the offhand would drop though -.-

Oh and for hit etc, get an addon called reforge lite, it's superb.

This actually not at all true. Being closer to hit cap becomes more important as you get to higher gear levels... and you never want to be above hit cap if you can avoid it, you're just wasting itemization if you do that. Anywho, lets not rehash the hit cap debate again...

Get above hit cap before all else. better to be over it than under it.

Also try and pug heroic Morchok to get the heroic mace. It's better than the normal DW dagger and has more stats to compensate for the lack of the proc dot.

    Hope that helps!

If you are running DS, chances are a reforge tool like wowreforge will put you right around hit cap, as close as mathematically possible with your gear.

The staff could be considered more of a group buff. If you want personal DPS, use the dagger and off-hand. However, if you're still progressing and need more group DPS, maybe consider the staff. The dagger is usually better though. If you have a legendary, never sacrifice that for either option, but that's fairly obvious. The idea of a haste proc for shadow is honestly not very good. Just like the haste proccing trinket. The secondary stats from a static weapon are most likely better, as the link from H2P also shows.
