Jaw Reconstructive Surgery (A.K.A. Jaw Reset Surgery)

So I have an under bite, where if it isn't corrected, would cause bracers to fail. The only way to fix it is to have this surgery. Has anyone had this surgery? What are your memories/experiences with it?
    Power?!?! I'll show you POWER!!!

How severe is the underbite? The surgery, quite literally, is a process of cutting your jaw and extending it outward using metal supports. Or for an underbite removing parts of the lower mandible and again joining the pieces with metal frames. You can expect a lot of swelling and bruising, though pain can sometimes be mediated with painkillers and the nature of the surgery causing some temporary nerve damage. However the recovery time can be months long and it -will- hurt at some point or another and likely a lot. It's also likely you'd have your jaw wired shut and be limited to a liquid diet for quite a while.

I would seek a second opinion before going forward with any kind of maxillomandibular realignment. Especially if the underbite is not that severe to begin with.
