FF XIII:
- Fal'Cie, L'Cie, Cie'th, etc.... the story is, especially because of those weird names, kinda hard to get into... although it isn't that bad in my eyes.
- combat system... it's totally different from the old games.. problem is: They wanted real time combat, because turn based is OLD! The combat system from FFX barely differs from the pre-PS games ffs. But it's as always, players are pretty scared of changes to stuff they like...
Now IF you use real time combat, you kinda need this autoplay-option, because otherwise you just waste too much time in the menus. And it's the only way for it to work with the paradigm shift, which is a GREAT concept and imho very well done in both games. (at least way better than "buff everyone" -> "use strongest moves" -> "repeat")
- WAY too much linearity in the first part of XIII... until you're ~halfway through the game you can just follow the way they've build for you, there's NOTHING else to do, can't even grind level. What annoyed me a lot were the group changes all the time... play with one group of characters for 1h, then change to another group for 1h, then back again... they fixed that in XIII-2 though.
There might've been more things people didn't like at XIII, can't think of anymore right now though.
