Bible translated.... again

So I saw this on CNN and wanted to get what you all think is the real reason behind this? Was it rewritten as the common man is too unlearned to understand it or rather written so that people who preach blindly will actually take the time to read it? The author claims the latter but what do you think?

Patrick Stewart is win.
The Bible has been re-written and manipulated more times than any other religious book. I don't understand it. I thought religions don't go with the flow of whatever is mainstream. I'm just old fashioned I guess. Lol.
