    D3 Starter Edition?

Blizzard has accidentally uncovered plans to launch a 'Starter Edition' of Diablo 3.
The slip-up reportedly occurred last night when Battle.net account holders suddenly found that they were allowed access to the beta without possessing a usually-required beta key.

Players then found that the version offered up was "full of UPGRADE buttons", seemingly asking for payment to access for more features, and displaying notices of features that were "unavailable in the Starter Edition of Diablo 3".
A Starter Edition will be nothing out of the ordinary to Blizzard fans, who've seen similar free-to-play treatments for other titles from the developer including, most recently, StarCraft 2.
Blizzard has since taken the Diablo 3 beta servers offline while it says it works "to resolve an issue affecting the beta accessibility".

Anyone who experienced this can share where these 'Upgrade buttons' where? What was accessible with the starter version?

    Upgrade button was top right
It will be much like the Diablo 2 "trial", it will probably be the beta for people wanting to try before they buy, only allowing certain things, prolly be a duplicate of the beta
In essence, it will be a trial.

From screenshots the upgrade button was on the main screen, and "full" of upgrade buttons is a bit of an exaggeration.

    The datamined strings include:
StarterEditionLockedHero - This hero cannot be used with a starter edition license.
    Please create a new hero.
StarterEditionLockedQuests - This quest is unavailable with a Starter Edition license.
Please change your quest or create a new hero.
HeroSelectCantCreateHeroWhileInParty - Unable to create a hero while in a party.

    And some notification strings

This player does not have a starter edition.
You cannot join a player that does not have a starter edition.
    Playing with a starter edition
Not playing with a starter edition
You are unable to create hardcore hero with a starter edition.
This feature is unavailable in the Starter Edition.

So it looks like for sure you will have limited heroes you can access, as well as limited quests, limited co-op, no hardcore and I would assume, a level cap.
