Perhaps not. But I applaud your effort.

For the next topic, since Greasy McNasty wants "true film nerds" to engage I suggest best Horror films between 1940 and 1970.

How hard is it to pick a genre, not suggest a specific time period? :P
Oh and as we're now calling comic book / graphic novel adaptations a 'genre' I've added them to the list of genres in the original post.

slim pickin's there, lots of B grade MST3K fodder to sift through but you have some Hammer films, The Haunting, House on Haunted Hill for sheer cheese factor, and the original Thing and Night of the Living Dead of course

basically stuck between Hammer and Castle with a few other notables, but it isn't really my scene, I'm more of a 70s-80s horror fan

Interesting, never knew Walking Dead was a comic.

Also, curious Fuzzie, did you watch "The Artist?" Did that inspire you to ask for the silent film genre? (I haven't seen it yet, waiting for the DvD)

Silent movies cannot be called a genre - as the story dictates the genre not whether there is sound or not

Errr, Terminator - Gangster movie? I think not.
And I wouldn't really call Cabin in the Woods sci-fi either...

I think (and hope) he's just messing with you. I mean, "American Reunion" as favorite drama and "One for the Money" as fantasy? It has to be a joke.

Okay, I decided to go with comedy, couldn’t find a post telling me what to do.
    10. Superbad
    9. The Kids Are All Right
    8. Dumb & Dumber
    7. The Truman Show
    6. As Good As It Gets
    5. Driving Miss Daisy
    4. The Artist
    3. Annie Hall
    2. La Vita è Bella
    1. Forrest Gump

Note that some of the above only has “comedy” as subgenre.
Included two “fun fun” comedies (Dumb & Dumber and Superbad)

The next one can make a list of “Biopics”

  11. #51
    Adventure:
1-3: The lord of the Rings Trilogy
    4: Gladiator
    5: Avatar
    6: The Hunger Games
    7: Terminator
    8: Inception
    9: The Dark Knight
    10: Braveheart

  12. #52
I'm sorry, what? What part of Forrest Gump made you think it was a comedy? And Syrele, you're supposed to leave a different genre for the next person to make a list.

It has a lot of comedic elements, so it's not totally wrong to say that it is a comedy + Eorayn mentions in his post that his list consists of both pure comedies and ones that are a combination of it and another genre.

top 10 biopic (since that was the last one requested)

    10. Bird
    9. The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
    8. Milk
    7. Ray
    6. Downfall
    5. Walk the Line
    4. Malcolm X
    3. Schindler's List
    2. The Elephant Man
    1. Raging Bull

    Next: Top 10 Crime

I think, basically sci fi has to be grounded in science and not magic (or the supernatural) and the force is magic, no matter how Lucas tries to justify it in the new trilogy. Or does it count as paranormal?
If that's the criteria, then you'd be hard pressed to list Sci-Fi films without a supernatural element. The ability to see the future in Dune? The monolith in 2010? The telepathy in Star Trek? Your view of the genre would narrow it so much that I can't think of any movies that qualify. All these horror "outbreak" movies, however, would fall into the category... shrug.

This might definitely sound nitpicky but:

shooting lighting out of hands = magic
telepathy & teleportation = paranormal ability

I don't know to be honest. SW follows the typical fantasy storyline just with sci-fi props and backdrop and therefore falls into the "space opera" genre, which usually deal with the epic adventures and do not rely on any kind of scientific accuracy. Most sci-fi (hard) on the other hand usually deals with a "what if" scenario in an usually futuristic setting. Examples: what if a virus breaks out and turns everyone into flesh eating zombies? What if women stopped being able to bear children? What if Aliens invaded Earth?
