I need a new GRAPHIC CARD HELP!!! D3

    Hi all!

    I have this computer :
    Gateway DX4850-43
    • Intel Core i5 2300 Processor Speed 2.8GHz
    • 300 watt PS
    • 6GB DDR3 Memory
    • NVIDIA GeForce GT420
    • 300 watt PS
    • 6GB DDR3 Memory

the graphic card suck and I want to upgrade it...I want to be able to play D3 high setting

the problem is...I don't know which one to buy, I'm willing to pay like 150 to 250$. Also, do I need to change the PSU to since it's just 300 watt. Do I need to put more ram in it? (it got 6 gb atm)

Another NOOB question, how do I know if a video card will fit MY computer

    Thank you

Yes you probably should get a new power supply. And that price range isn't all that great for wanting to run a brand new game on all high settings.

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130662 - EVGA GTX 560 1GB

This card is more than enough to handle most games, before your CPU becomes a bottleneck. This should be able to handle D3 on High without issue, keeping in mind you may need to tweek a few settings such as shadows. I believe D3 is more CPU reliant than GPU, so you should not have to worry too much about that.

You will definately need to upgrade to at minimum a 550W power supply. I prefer 750W so you always have extra power to fall back on. You can usually get a decent PSU for $50-$100, which should keep you in your budget.

    EVGA 460: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130750
    Apevia 500w: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817148003
    Total: ~$170
This will run D3 at 75+ fps at 1600x900.

From what I've seen Diablo 3 isn't that demanding graphics wise 250$ would be more than enough for a card that can handle it no problem. Now if you have to fit card and power supply into that budget might be a little harder. And yes, you need a new power supply.

As far as it fitting goes, you should be able to find measurements on the card, get out a tape measure and check.

With that budget he could get a 7850 or 560Ti and be good for a while. For reference my 6850 1GB card was able to run D3 at max without a problem so either of those cards should be able to handle it easily.

Of course those two cards would eat up his budget without having a PSU that would safely ruin it. :P

I like these guides they put together at tomshardware, separates them into price ranges and then a total chart.

Another noob question, for the moment I play wow at 1920x1080, since some mention 1600x900....does a graphic card change anything with the resolution I play at the moment?

Most Graphic Cards will have a max resolution they can render, and the higher the resolution, the more work they have to do. I would not worry about a small jump like 1600 to 1920, as you will suffer minimum FPS loss, esp if you go with a $175+ card.

they said diablo 3 isn't optimised yet. so it will run better on older cards on release hopefully

    I dont recommend evga.
I really really dont recommend bfg, but i think they went out of business.
I have an MSI N460GTX Cyclone and it is so incredibly awesome, everyone should get one.
You want to get a card that has a good airflow and heatsink. This one can probably withstand baking in an oven.
Also get an intel SSD and install your OS on it.

Be careful though. I remember my GPU (nvidia 335m) ran SWTOR like a charm on beta but when it went live, it was utter crap with terrible fps issues while pvping. I suggest you wait the final and real product and read reviews before spending 150-250$ for the game.

You know I realize at this time that there a lot of people who like to post thinking they know what they're talking about...and don't

Pick up a 6870 and for psu

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...=antec%20bp550
what I personally have and it has ran fine for the 2 years I've owned it, plus it's modular.

Also as to why ignore some of the previous posts in this thread
1st one may have been right if it wasn't D3, not a terribly demanding game ( I infact have a 6870 and ran it at max settings with no issues at all. Do note beta settings may be lower then real settings...gpu would still be fine)
2nd post is pretty decent though just for information purposes anything above 550watts is wasted for your purposes
3rd post 460 rather old now and for your price range much better gpus to pick up plus the psu linked doesn't have the required connectors. I am in fact confused as to how they use it.
The posts after that are great and should be listened to.

Now this may seem like I'm just picking on them, but I'm actually trying to keep you informed and not make a decision based on info that is wrong.

Make sure before you order anything you measure your current card to make sure there is room for a new one.

I agree with the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130750 as I have the PNY counterpart and it runs D3 maxed out just fine. I have an i5 2600 and 8GB ram so its not like the rest of my rig is way better than yours. Its not future proof but it is for the next year or so future friendly. A 560Ti is a better future friendly choice but it leaves you less room for your needed power supply. This one fits your budget with the above linked card and is a fairly decent one to boot. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817256065
