NEW Blog : Choosing and Transferring Worlds - Useful Info

For our first Beta Weekend Event (April 27-29), home-world selection and world transfers will work just as they will when Guild Wars 2 launches.
When you log in to the game for the first time, you will have the opportunity to pick any available server, or home world. If you choose to select a home world that is in a different region from where you purchased your game, you will be logged out for a short period of time while your account is moved to your new region. Once you have selected a home world, all the characters you create will play on this world and will represent it in our world-versus-world (WvW) format.

While you can change your home world, there is a limit of one world transfer every seven days per account and a charge of 1,800 gems for each transfer. A world transfer moves all of your existing characters to your new home world. Any subsequent characters you create will also play in this new home world.

I'm happy that I can finally coordinate with friends where to play.

Why don't they state what time zone each home world is in? Or does it not work that way?

FYI: Anvil Rock was the press and ArenaNet employee server, but I think they'll be redistributing them for the beta.

Depends, what functionality are you thinking of when you consider the server's designated timezone?

I vote Deldrimor, but if they announce server timezones and there is one for CST I will join that regardless of anything else.

I don't think they will seeing as everyone globally is on the same schedule for beta, ie x day/time to x day time. (X being the equiv to Anet time )

Not sure what you mean here.

What I'm talking about is the server time when you mouse over the clock. Like for WoW, it will show "local time" and "server time" I played on a server that was in my timezone, so when people say "meet up at x:xx server time" it is a whole lot simpler.

I think we've agreed to do EST, since it's the midpoint between the US and Europe.

Which works out for me, since I live there.

edit: Datacenter I mean. Not timezone. Time zone is kind of irrelevant really.

The practicality of having your server's time synced with your real life time.

Here's hoping they don't announce timezones then.

There are no "special servers". Language is client side. No PvP or RP servers. No East or West coast servers either. ^MK

Interesting. I guess in game clock is always local time. Wonder how guilds are gonna organize events, I sure hope they don't use GMT. lol
