    remote desktop gaming?

I'd like to game while around the house, on my laptop or HTPC, is this feasable ? My main rig has the power to run the games and my internet connection is sufficient (300mbps), i've already set it up but it's choppy ( although not as choppy as one might think ). Are there any ways to improve the remote desktop connection, or is the performance dictated by the PC that does the remote control?

How is your remote desktop set up. While you may have a 300mb/s connection, your remote device might only pull a few mb. I have never played around with remote desktop but, I would assume its a lot like watching a video. I mean that in the sense of quality. So maybe, one of your problems is that your main rig is putting out a quality that is just a tad too much for your mobile device. This is all theoretical, like I said, I don't have any real experience with remote access. But, that is where I would start is messing with setting.

Could you be a bit more specific on the remote desktop solution you use?

Depending on the solution there are different things that affect performance.

Remote desktop was never designed with gaming in mind. Even with Gigabit wired networking you would fall short.
Also the software isn't designed to take advantage of extra bandwith of local networks. (extra being relavant to your current bandwith plan)
Solutions include moving the gaming rig around house or upgrade/replace the Htpc and replace laptop with one capable of gaming.
