War of the Greys: Forge of Souls [Open RP]

"Naive fools!" The army of heroes stands before the mighty creature, blood hot from the concluding battle. "My death will make little difference in the long run." The being holds a sword in it's chest and it peers up from it's wound, "The Lich King has granted me my eternal reward!" The heroes prepare their final blow, the foundations of Naxxramas quake beneath the power they display. Mages prepare their blasts of energy, warriors clench their axes and swords and healers circulate wound easing energy through their allies. "This is not over! The world will pay a greater toll, for I will return!" screams the lich. The heroes attack, inches from victory. The lich is defeated as they land their blows, "Agghhhh! Do... not... rejoice! Your victory is a hollow one, for I shall return with powers beyond your imagining!" The lich explodes into a burst of corrupted energy and the heroes cheer, a warrior in heavy armor approaches the remains and holds up the lich's crown. "The lich is dead! Kel'Thuzad is dead!"

Now, years later, heroes will once again visit the icy north. Adventurers, mercenaries and soldiers have all come to face one another. The Alliance under Arinite of the Grey is assembling in Dalaran, investigating the frigid north for their enemy's activity. The Horde amasses in the ruins of the great Ymirheim, once a great city for the mighty men of the northlands. Both will face the perils of the Icecrown citadel, the seat of the damned.

"My lord?" asks a forsaken soldier. The gusts of Northrend spew crystals of snow across his emotionless face, "When can we expect these mercenaries?" Causis of the Grey looks to the soldier, "Soon, prepare the lodging. Their blood will need to be warm before we proceed." The soldier turns and heads toward the ruined homes of the Vryu'kl. Fires dot the village under the cover of sheets and piece of wood, Forsaken troopers tell tales, jokes and war stories. Some of which were the annihilation of the city they sit in. Causis takes a deep breath out of habit, "Any new from Tirisfal?" An aide nods, "Yes, intelligence reports a possible leak, the Alliance may know about this operation." Causis fondles his chin, "Secure the doorway to the Forge of Souls. We may have to move faster then we thought." The aide sounds surprised, "Sir?" Causis turns, eyebrow up, "Who do you think the Alliance will send?" The soldier quickly nods and heads off towards the camps. They'll send Greys and Alliance mercenaries. They could ruin everything!

Arinite stands anxiously in the flight-master's terrace. She begins to pace as a gnome appears from the Alliance quarter. "My lady, the preparations are complete and the SI:7 has informed us that there is a leak in Forsaken intelligence." Arinite listens in, "It appears they are in the ruins of Ymirheim, and there's a lot of them. King Varian has detached the sky guard to help you after all. Arinite smiles, "Great, now we have to wait for those mercenaries. When they arrive I'll debrief them. Prepare the fleet my fine friend." The gnome salutes and heads towards the Alliance gryphon station on the terrace. An Alliance sky fleet can be seen hovering in the distance, above the diamond forests. For the love of the Light, don't let the Greys be involved.

Describe your entry and we'll suit you up. Prepare for battle my friends!

Aland tightened his grip on the reins of his borrowed skeletal steed. A notion that this particular beast was a trouble even in life crossed his mind, but was quickly forgotten as the lights he had been watching for the past few hours appeared around a final bend in the rock. The cold was a terrible enemy in Icecrown, not even the Light could bat it off. The Shadow however gave him something better, clarity and forethought. The warmth of the fire was a welcome relief even with his layers of cloth and armor though.

He descended his stead and tied it off on a rock near on of the fires and left it. A few quick words and he was pointed in the direct of the commander, a Causis of the Grey. He had heard of this warrior, a would be paladin fighting his own kin. Aland let out an audible sigh, but of course this made no sense to him. He went to the ends of Azeroth, fought countless evils, and then choose death itself to be with his family again. He didn't know much about the feud but still it seemed pointless. He came upon the command tent and told the guards to get Causis, and tell him help was here.

(( Needed more description on the actual base but seeing as this is the first expedition to the place in the ruins of a city I assumed no formal structures had been built. Also that he would be guarded as standard protocol.))

A portal opened in the streets of Dalaran, With a man appearing from the portal and setting his foot on the ground. With his plate silver gear he looks around him and throw some gold coins he grabbed from his pocket back into the portal. "Thank you for the fast travel" he said before the portal closed again.

"Ah Dalaran, Good to be here again" With a smile appearing on his face, he started to walk to Krasus' Landing. Arriving at the place he looked around for the Contact he had to meet. Then he spotted a female mage. Walking to her he introduced him self. "Hello lady i am Crusader Mike Helson and are you the contact we must meet for the journey to Icecrown Citidal?

Minutes later, Causis hears the news from one of the vanguard. He nods and heads toward the new arrival's location. He holds a record book in his hand and looks it over as he walks, "A Mr. Wood?" He looks over the pages as snow passes the guard's attempts to keep his commander dry. "Interesting profile, good to see some of us actually care about other people. I like this corpse already!" he closes the book and arrives. "Mr. Wood I assume?" He extends his skeletal hand, "Pleasure."

Meanwhile in Dalaran: Arinite smiles at the man who's just arrived, "Yes, that'd be me." She extends her hand, "Welcome to Northrend, I'll assume you're Mike Helson. Pleasure." As she does so, a feeling of pride overcomes her. Adorned in the robes of an Alliance war-mage she develops a stern value of her responsibility. She'll soon command a fleet, and some of the finest warriors and wizards of the Alliance. One of which stood before her, "I'll brief you after the other volunteers arrive, until then please, be patient."

((not suggesting you aren't patient, just trying to be polite ))

((also, i'm referring to the Cataclysmic Bloodthirsty from season 9))

Aland looked the man over and ignored his hand. "I prefer Aland and it will be a pleasure once we start our work." No matter this man's intentions he still had to much faith in the Light for his taste. He unwrapped the outer layers of a cloth from his armor and stowed them in his bag. "How many are we waiting on?"

"I believe three more." Causis's arms recedes, "I apologize for my lack of sympathy. If you'll make yourself comfortable, we'll wait for them." He turns to one of the guardsmen, "Get me an update on the Forge situation, I want to be informed constantly."

Salarissian strode north across the frozen wastes, reminiscing in his war memories against the Scourge. Cresting a small snow-covered hill, his great cloak flapping in the wind behind him, he glanced south-west and beheld the towering spires of Icecrown Citadel. He shuddered in the painful memories.

Sal shook his head, then continued on wards towards his destination: Ymirheim, a city he had once assisted in devastating. He peered towards the mountains that marked it, and continued.

A few hours later, Sal finally reached the Forsaken encampment. He walked towards a sentry and said, "Guard. I am Salarissian Dawnfire, and I have come to... Assist, in the matters concerning the Forge of Souls." He grimaced sightly as he said the name, more painful memories of friends and allies falling in battle came to him.

The sentry smirks and beckons the elf to follow him, "Causis will want to see you. Follow me." A hill stands before them, a path moves in a zig-zag through old trenches and Vryuk'l homes. At the top of the hill next to one of the few intact buildings sits Causis and his guest, patiently awaiting him and the other Horde warriors. Causis looks below and opens his record book, "Salarissian Dawnfire." His lip quivers a bit, "Elven warrior, Argent Crusade." He flips the old, yellowed pages, "This elf has seen a lot." He picks up a bottle of wine from aside him, "I hope he likes wine."

'' The hour of vengeance draws near..'' whispered Thalarian, his eyes sparkling with the rage he had accumulated through the years since Quel'Thalas had fallen to the Scourge. He was on his way towards Ymirheim, where members of the Horde grouped up for an assault upon the Citadel. The gryphon he had borrowed from Dalaran flew slow but steady as the bristlering cold hit against his fur robe which he grew accustomed to while in Northrend.

After what seemed like an eternity, the gryphon finally landed and Thalarian took off, his fel-green eyes gazing upon the ruins of what was once one of the proudest villages of the Vrykul. The strength of the Alliance and Horde combined had scattered them in the four winds.

It didn't take long to find the Forsaken encampment. He approached the closest guard he could find, a small sphere of fire hovering above his hand, helping him find his way through the impenetrable darkness.

'' You're with the Grey, are you not ? I am Thalarian Suntreader, sworn enemy of the Scourge, and I have come to see justice be served upon the King of Northrend. If you will lead me to your superior.. I want to start this as soon as possible. I have waited for too long. ''

(( I'd also suggest that we have a posting order since we're only a couple of players horde-side and thus the wait time will not be that long ))

(( Because of being a small group ICly in the same place at the same time, I suggest having a posting order, as in.

Example: Pateu, Darced, Nonfictionless, Shadow-Cleave, Mehmann

to avoid making it look like the other characters stay motionless while 2 players RP. ))

Vetreth shivered as the biting winds of the Howling Fjord ripped straight through his battered old cloak and chilled him straight to his bones. He knew he'd made a mistake by travelling by boat to Northrend but he'd seen far too often the dangers of magic when the mage performing the spell had lost concentration and he wasn't planning on putting himself in that kind of danger. Not when there were other means to travel.

He looked up at the sky. Anywhere else in the world the land would have been bathed in light at this time of day but up here in Northrend the mists had a way of blocking out all but the most meagre of light.

When he'd sent ahead for travel he'd expected there to be a griffin rider ready and waiting to fly him to Dalaran but the aftermath of the war on the Lich King had not been kind to towns like Valgarde. In the absence of the regular income of the stationed soldiers, plus the funding that the alliance had inevitably put forward to help with defence during the war in Northrend, the town had reverted to what you might expect of a port in its location.

Suddenly a griffin landed a few yards ahead of him and a dwarf hopped off it. "Vetreth Morrowdawn?" it grunted.

    "Aye" he replied.

"Get on then. Best make yerself comfortable. It's a long ride to Dalaran."

Causis looks to the party before him, two elves and an undead. One a mage and two warriors by the looks of it, perfect for the assignment he had in mind. "Gentlemen." He waits for their attention, "We have a situation that I believe may entertain you until our other friends arrive." He points south, towards Icecrown citadel, "The Forge of Souls. As we speak my soldiers are attempting to secure it's entrance. We're not sure how many guard the terrace, but one thing's for certain, we need it." The undead paces as he speaks, "If you feel up to it, you're more than welcome to join them. I know you've had a long journey, but you two don't look like the type to get exhausted so easily." He pauses, "You could of course stay here and wait with me, I always enjoy company. The choice is yours, my riders can take you there swiftly. You'll be there in minutes."

Arinite stares over the terrace towards the sky-fleet. They hover over the Crystalsong Forest, gnomish devices fly around it. The gnome returns on a gryphon and lands before her, "Ma'm, the sky-fleet is ready. Who are we waiting on?" Arinite looks down to the gnome, "A man named Vetreth Marrowdawn." The gnome pauses in thought, "He sounds dreadfully familiar, perhaps when we meet I'll remember." The little gnome looks to the west, towards the silhouette of Icecrown's malicious structures. "I've had enough of that place, but ya know, orders are orders." Arinite looks in the same direction and sighs, "People will always be dying there."

((Hey guys, forget the post order, just say what you would like. Id like to continue this and the order seems to have bogged this rp down. So, I'm doing away with the order. Also, if this RP is too boring or something or if you're no longer interested, please let me know. I'd like to know where I went wrong. Thanks!))

    (late entry ftw, sorry :P)

a proto drake comes flying through the sky, towards the horde encampment, landing about 50 yards from the little group, a paladin dressed in red and orange armor jumps off, letting the proto drake fly up into the air. the paladin looks at the small party "a small group for an important mission like this.. awsome" she marked sarcasticly as she walked towards the group, with her mace secured in her belt and a tome of magic on the other side. she takes off her helmet when she gets to the group, "i never really liked wearing them anyways", she wittingly said, eagerly waiting to start the mission so she could get home to Lights Hope.

A male blood elf death knight clad in grey plate trimmed with glowing azure reached the top of the sheer, snow-blanketed cliff.
The frigid wind was gusting, though it did not affect Lethean Darkfury. His two-handed great sword that once served him in life was sheathed on his back, and the former paladin and ranger's icy eyes glowed, and were visible through the demon face-shaped helm's eye slits.
Before Lethean towered Icecrown Citadel; the fortress of the Lich King, King Arthas Menethil. The name instantly darkened Lethean's already-shadowy mood, and the death knight clenched a gauntleted fist.

Minutes later, mounted upon a skeletal gryphon, Lethean landed directly inside the small Horde encampment, where he then dismounted and waved a hand, dismissing the ghastly mount.
"My name is Lethean Darkfury," he introduced himself, bowing in a mockingly fashion, grinning beneath his helm. "I assume you are Causis of the Grey? A pleasure. Truly. Now, when are we going to see some action, hmm?"

Causis peered up from his seat; a rotten chair made of a broken barbarian home. He examined the death knight before him, not too unlike others he's encountered. "Aye, that's me." Causis stood and eyed the elf's bright eyes and opened his logbook. He read from it, finger marking where he's tread. "Darkfury, what an interesting name." Causis nods, "Well then, if you look to your left you'll see a gryphon post. Take one of our beasts or yours, my riders will escort you to the Forge." Causis closes his book with one hand and looks grimly, "I already have a contingent over there. Once you arrive, I'm sure there will be plenty to do." Causis sat back in his seat, "Oh, and the pleasure is all mine."

Lethean nodded at Causis, though did not remark on the Forsaken's comment about his surname . . . it was something that even Lethean didn't want to go over at the moment.
The death knight took to his skeletal gryphon's saddle, and jerked the reins. The undead beast lifted its head and cawed - a disgusting sound filled with a long-held pain and remorse, yet utter obedience. The gryphon's claws dug into the hard, frozen ground, and it took to the sky, bearing Lethean in the direction that Causis had pointed out.
This should be fun, Lethean mused to himself, anticipation building up inside him like a wildfire.
