I'd like for him to come back. But at the same time, I fear that they'll tentacle rape the lore.

He also ordered Lady Vash to drain all of Zangarmarsh into nothing but a dead wasteland, so he can create his second Well of Eternity. Illidan attacked Shattrah City, he also ordered Kael to drain all energy out of Netherstorm.

Lets also not forget Illidan tried to destroy the Lich King. If he had succeded, all of Azeroth would fall by the mindless Scourge.

He is DEFINATLY a villain, and he deserves to stay dead.
    Lolno.

Everything that happened in TBC about Illidan is a huge lorelol. People like myself who adore Illidan as an antihero refer to his character pre-BC which was not butchered and turned itno a cliché villain.

Metzen stated that he will come back. Maybe he cheated death, or maybe he will be ressurected.

By all means, I hope he will be more like Chaotic Neutral. Do some good stuff, even enlist us to help him, but will have his personal agenda.

This was pretty much the case on the Well of Eternity dungeon, anyway.

Illidan did indeed come back, as Metzen said. In Well of Eternity...

He'll be an ally, he and Malfurion finally made peace in the end, and both of them are invaluable for another grand fight against The Legion. He'll have his moments in a Legion expansion, and hopefully he will come with a free package of playable Demon Hunters by his side.

If I remember right they were talking lore at the panel, Metzen might aswell just stick his ass in our faces if he was referring to Well of Eternity. That'd be the most misleading thing Blizzard would ever have done. He was most definately saying that he'll come back from his injustified death in TBC, because let's face it, his death in TBC was really lame.

And a DK is just a mix of warrior and warlock with a little bit of frost mage thrown in, but they made that.

Illidan has always been a complicated character. He's friend and foe. He was a friend through-out the Warcraft series. An enemy in TBC, and now a friend again, come the Hour of Twilight dungeons. But if you know WoW Lore, you know that the Hour of Twilight dungeon was giving you a glimpse into his history during the Warcraft series, from a World of Warcraft standpoint. His most recent nature, as far as the current time-line goes. He died an enemy. A cruel twist of fate brought him to his end. Unrequited love, and being shunned by his entire race. Illidan died with Black Temple. He's not coming back in the current story again. So in retrospect, if he does make another surprise appearance it would be in a similar situation to to the most recent one he made.

Neither he needs to be inbetween like he usually was before Blizzard decided "lol he gone made and attacked shatt." Anti-hero Illidan please.

That said, I wouldnt mind Illidan returning as a "hero" for the expansion that involves the burning legion and hopefully demon hunters. But I personally couldnt give a rats ass about what Malfurion thinks of this, hes got to be 1 of the most hypocritical lore characters in WoW and I would personally hope Blizzard give us the choice to kill or save him because I sure as hell wouldnt side with Malfurion.
I couldn't agree more, Malfurion is without a doubt the most hypocritical lore character in World of Warcraft. If Illidan did return he would never join the Alliance, Malfurion nor any other Night Elf wanted to see the good in Illidan. Illidan sacrificed a lot for his people and in return his brother, his friends, and his people scorned him for it. Personally I too hope we soon get to see Malfurion's end or even better we get to end him.

    Illidan is dead.

If I see another rehashed, reused, brought back from death because it was only a setback storyline in WoW I'm gonna flip.

Illidan is a hybrid between night elf and demon, so he's only half demon. I'm not sure if half demons will be send back to the Nether, but if they do, than Kil'Jaeden will have some fun with Illidan...

Not that subject again... I hope he'll remain a dead villain.

Got a feeling the story will go something like this...
We get invaded by the burning legion we need more hero's at our side so tyranda decides to ressurect ilidan ofc Maiev Shadowsong try to stop it,and by so we find out that kil'jaeden actaully posses her. Now i'm not 100% sure on this but after ilidans death couldent it be possible for maiev to take the skull of guldan from ilidan and harnest its power please reply if i'm wrong...

I really hate ressurecting char's aswell but ilidan's story just went down the toilet after wc3.

I hope he returns in the only role he can play, the anti-hero. If he comes back (he will, not too happy about it but hey) he best not be demoted to class trainer or a new mary sue. Power hungry, egotistical, reckless Illidan please oh and he can kill Maiev, that bitch has always annoyed me.

If he comes back as anything but a corpse, it will be too soon.
