For that price range, your best bet IMO is the GTX 560 Ti OC.

How many watts does your PSU have?

May be worthwhile then knowing what power supply you have. As if it's one of those cheaper computers you bought pre built, there maybe a chance it's power supply is minimum and not ready to rock out a new graphics card.

Okay thanks for that help now that we are on PSU can you recommend a good one for a decent price

I'd recommend a Radeon HD 6870 with a 500+ watt PSU. You'll be able to get that for around $250 if you order it through newegg.com.

im guessing you are using microcenter since you are in the detroit area? http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0361422

are all good choices, or just go in and talk to the sales people in the part section, they are suprisingly knowledgable for the most part.

a gtx 560 or 560ti + PSU will be a good upgrade and in your price range at the in-store microcenter price range.

99.9% of the time microcenter's prices are better and you can walk up to the store and pick it up yourself

If you are in SoCal then you can go to Fry's. They price match from Internet retailers like NewEgg. You just have to ask a sales associate to do it..

You'll definitely need a PSU. You can get a decent one for $60 or so that will be good enough for a GTX 560TI as others have said.
