Alright, so I want to buy a new monitor, a 27" to be precise. However, there's a few things i'd like to know first. Alright, starting off, performance changes? I currently have a 21.5" but it's running at 1920x1080, which I believe the 27" will too, so there would be no performance changes, right?
So, on to dual monitor, I want to try using both my current and the one i'm planning to buy. I'm using a 6850 GPU, is this something you would say is viable with this graphics card or a no no? I'm only really playing wow and diablo 3
Do you have any specific reason for buying a larger monitor? Because honestly, if it's the same resolution, the graphics will look worse if you switch up.
What are you planning on doing with this monitor? If you're at all interested in color correctness, you'll want an IPS based panel. If you're concerned with only gaming/high-paced movies, you'll want a low response time TN panel. TN panels sacrifice color correctness/brightness for speed, which helps prevent ghosting/motion blur on fast paced games/movies. TN panels are almost always universally cheaper.
IPS based: ~$800-$1200+ for a 27" of good quality. Usually 2560x1440 resolution (which means you'll see lower FPS at the higher resolution)
TN based: ~$300-$700+ for a 27" of good quality. These come in 1920x1080 and higher resolutions. If you're used to 1920x1080 on a 21.5", you might have issues with the same resolution on a larger screen appearing to be grainy or of lower quality due to the same amount of pixels on a larger screen.
A 21" widescreen monitor has an area of 1216cm, while a 27" widescreen monitor has an area of 2010cm, not quite double the amount of space for the same pixels.
A good 27" TN panel: Asus VE278Q - 1920x1080 - ~$300
A good 27" IPS panel: Dell UltraSharp U2711 - 2560x1440 - ~$850
