Twisted Fate's "Pick A Card" Ability

Hi! I just bought Twisted Fate and I'm wondering exactly how "Pick A Card" works and if you have any tips for using it. Right now I'm having problems getting the card I want. Let's say the golden card comes up first, I almost never get to react and pick the next card instead. Sometimes I have to wait throught the whole cycle again to get it so I have a couple of questions.

Is it in a fixed sequence or random?
If there is a sequence, does it start of from last time I cast the spell?
Do you have any tips to get the cards I want?

Don't play him all that much but from what I remember:

It is a random cycle (though the cycle repeats in the same order)
There is a good 1-1.5 second delay on the switches so you may just need to pay more attention if you are missing the one you want
The cycle order is picked randomly when you first cast the spell (IE it does not continue from the time before)

My only tip to get the card you want is to stop on it, I've never had any trouble picking it even in the middle of team fights, though some people I know can't pick it to save their lives so I might just be good at it. Practice improves everything though so as you confidence with the game/hero grows and you just play more in general you should find it getting easier.

I believe it is a fixed cycle now
    No idea, wasn't relevant.
I don't have any tips really though. Take a friend and go in to a bot game and have them randomly call out a card and pick it. Get used to looking at the card flashing above your head, not a buff or anything like that. His pick a card mechanic is the hard part about using him, when you get that down he's a lot of fun and good.

Any time you teleport, pick a gold card first so you can immediately stun. I've seen people not do this at 1800+ and I cry.

There's a set sequence for which card comes up next in the cycle, yes. What's not set in stone is which card that cycle begins on. It's just luck of the draw, really. My only really big piece of advice is to have your finger ready to click immediately once you toggle the ability. I wouldn't start shuffling for the card you want when you say... are running towards or away from a fight. You'll usually see people who are used to playing Twisted Fate shuffle and find a gold card BEFORE they use their ulti to travel somewhere. This lets them open up a fight with a stun as soon as they get there instead of saying, "ALRIGHT, IT'S ON NOW BOY- wait, can you just hang on for 2 seconds?"

Use Gold only when you're planning on starting a real fight with someone.
Use Red for harassing enemy champions, and follow it up with Q as you walk away. The slow makes it really hard to dodge the flying cards.
Use Blue only as sustain. Try to spend the extra damage on a last-hit on a minion, and enjoy your mana replenishment.

When you just activate it you get a random card then it goes in the usual sequence.

What works for me is remember the cycle how cards go after each other and get ready to pick your card when previous card in the sequence appears. If you don't want to miss the first card you just have to be more careful at the start of shuffling. With enough practice it should come naturaly.

Some rescue. No wonder you're called the Order of Whispers. Nobody would brag about this.
What have you become when even nightmares fear you ?

The sequence is Blue>Red>Yellow but with no certain starting point. Once you know that you have half of him down already.
Also pro tip: Don't panic when in team fights, being chased etc. b/c then you will stuff up the card and die anyway

This is what I read in a guide:

Give the cards a number for yourself, in the order that they go, so as posted above: Blue > Yellow > Red > Blue etc.

For example, blue 1, yellow 2, red 3.

If the card starts on Red, you think "3" and then just go "1" blue "2" Yellow CLICK.

    Or "2" yellow, now I wait 3, 1, 2 CLICK.

Best advice ever. Thanks. Definitely going to reconsider playing TF now as I sucked so fucking hard with him before.

Oh btw, something a lot of people don't know, the blue card actually does the most single target damage, so if your team has a lot of cc and you need to bring more damage instead of stuns, use your blue cards instead.

Do note that you can pick a card (gold for example) use your ulti, and instantly stun the guy you ulti to. I see quite a lot of TF's ulti, then struggling to find the right card.

You get it random when you activate then it continues on fixed cycle. Try to pick a card before porting or moving in for the kill so you have more time to react.

If you by any reason miss the desired card, just wait for it to appear again if you are not in a big rush.
