    WoW Commercials

So I was just wondering why Blizzard never shows any actual gameplay in their commercials for WoW. I would definitely say that would be more appealing than the celebrity bits (Mr. T, Chuck Norris, etc.) I never wanted to play the game until I sat down and watched my buddy play TBC the night it launched. How do you feel about this? What drew you to play WoW the first time?

Maybe it is just me but I find the celebrity adverts quite cringe-worthy. I guess I get a little sad as a player that Blizzard likes to market their game in a jokey way, like they are making fun of it. But then again I always hate it when celebrities advertise products that they obviously do not use, or if they do use it they only do it because it puts them in public favor. I would love to see some actual gameplay in the adverts, not the entire advert but little parts of it.

I agree completely. I just feel like they could do a much better job to attract players without referencing pop culture all the time and trying to make a joke out of what could be a very serious storyline. I also think that would help to attract more serious, mature players.

Let's be honest, the gameplay isn't interesting if you're watching it from the outside. It just looks like people punching too many buttons.
    Ex-WoW player as of 3/25/2013.

It is still a heck of alot better than a low pixel, Chuck Norris looking hunter kicking a goblin in the face.

Well you have to consider their target audience

For someone in the 5-10 age range, the Chuck Norris WoW advertisement is probably funny
Rest In Peace, World of Warcraft. Subscriber count doesn't matter, WoW has been dead in spirit for a while
Rest In Peace, Star Wars the Old Republic. SWTOR is a fun RPG, but a bad MMO

What drew me to the game, was hearing my friends talking about it, and then playing the card game when it was first released. It is how I started with my female gnome affliction lock. That was my starting hero in the CCG.

    Because gameplay isn't funny....

However MR T and Chuck Norris commercials are

Their are a few others but those two are most memorable.
