I use an h-100 and don't go over 55C under full load (burn test) at 4.6GHz on my i5-2500k. Not sure how much better an h-100 is supposed to be than an h-80, but it probably isn't that much. 57C load temp without overclocking may be a bit high, but certainly nothing to worry about.

My i5-2500k has a idle temp of 23-27, and loading about 40-45 has my only on 3.8ghz tho but still it runs very smoothly imo!

Update to the loose backplate. After reading some articles about, I followed the advice I found. Snagged some washers and placed them on the backplate between the spacer and the nut. No more wiggle! Temps havent changed. Still 37/41/33/25 with the cpu downclocked to 1.6Ghz. Dont know what the issue is, but with the fans on the most aggressive profile, they dont spin nearly as fast as they used to. I wonder if the fan controller on the waterblock has become a little.....iffy? On POST, those fans get f'ing LOUD! But there isnt much difference in the 3 fan settings anymore.

**edit 1** Plugged the fans into the mobo and commanded them to full speed. 36/41/33/25. Ordering a 212 evo until I save enough for a real water loop.

Your 100% CPU load temps are fine, it's just the idle temps i find a bit weird. 10C difference is very strange, normally they should be around the same temp while on idle. My PC ( see sig ) is using the stock cooler that came with the CPU and i get better idle and load temps.

It's possible you got a faulty H-80 unit...maybe it's hard to say without being there and testing it, all tho i find it strange that i have set up a few closed loop systems at my house and they all ways show a real good performance with temps. ( i even have the ducted heating set on to 20C )

Put the stock HSF on. instead of 36/41/33/25 with the H80, I now have 37/41/33/28. Did I get a somewhat flaky CPU or motherboard? Asrock extreme3 gen3

**edit** 10 mins of Prime95 Blend with stock HSF at stock clocking produced temps of 66/71/68/61....the 10 degree range in temps is bothering. Is this normal?

Looking at the cooling plate on the H80 block.....I noticed an outline from the CPU's IHS. I'm starting to wonder if this CPU is just really concave. Thoughts?

http://imgur.com/n0Jd5 Link to a pic I took of the block.

Update....pulled the cpu and my suspicions were confirmed. The IHS on the 2500K was pretty warped/concave. I held a straightedge over it, and I had contact on the corners, but not much in the middle. Put my 955 back in with the H80 and everything runs fine. RMA'ing the 2500K back to Newegg.

Newegg will likely just return it to you since a warped IHS isn't considered faulty.
