As an east coaster, I'm happy with this setup. This way, the servers will hopefully be smoothly running by the time I wake up tomorrow.

Unless you are going for some kind of world first i think its good it starts at 3am...
If it started at midnight you would get too into it before sleep, and not go to bed. But as it is you will get some sleep and be refreshed for play tomorrow.
I don't think it has anything to do with Blizzard HQ.
They sell the game to the stores. Even with digital downloads they still have to be fair to those stores and release the game on the date they have specified. The west coast of North America is the last timezone to reach May15th. Therefore they have to wait until PST to make the game available to everyone. Otherwise they'd be making the game available on the May14th to a bunch of timezones and would be likely breaking their contact with the stores they sell games too. Which is probably important not to break since they don't want stores releasing games early (ie: other Activision games).
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the beans of Java that thoughts acquire speed, the hands acquire shakes, the shakes become a warning.

See... this is one good reason to Live in New Zealand. Kick-off @ 7:00pm tonight. Also have me a nasty cough comming on too. Not sure I can make it to work tomorrow
^^ Good thing my college's summer break started a week ago and I have nothing to do tomorrow!
They are going for the option that is going to be easiest with the servers but can still be called a midnight launch.
It's 5pm in Oz.
Very convenient.
Cheers Bliz. Now how about local servers?
(the subtext here is: I think you'll live, everyone has inconveniences occasionally & some are worse than others)
Seems to me you're mad because of time zones, not blizzard. Go read a science book for crying out loud. Stop crying and be happy that D3 is finally here!!!
Alaska is farther East than the Eastcoast....
And farther West than the Westcoast....
Guess which shaft we get?
Off-topic: Great, geogrpahical gang wars have seeped into the MMO-C community.
On-topic: Blizzard is in the West, so they go by THEIR clocks. Try being in Illinois, where no one does ANYTHING by your time zone!
I am diligently awaiting the release and inevitable destruction of the servers here on the west coast. As long as it's no worse than my cata experience, I'll be happy.
IMO they should compromise and do everything by CDT/CST! Because the middle is the pragmatic solution of course, not because I live there or anything.
Why do we have different time zones anyway when the Earth is flat? It's all a big conspiracy.
