By the way guys, I don't know where some people are getting this idea that 16:9 is so much better and supports such larger resolutions than 16:10.... You have 2560x1440 which is 16:9, typically optimal on a 27" display and then 2560x1600 which is of course 16:9, and is often implemented on 30" displays, like Cyanotical's. I personally find that I like 16:10 more, actually.

/happy to see OP going for the Dell, by the looks of it. WoW will not be the best game to take advantage of a 120Hz display, plain and simple.

I'd take any IPS panel over a 120hz non-IPS. Picture accuracy and uniformity really stand out to me. If the top of the screen is darker than the bottom thqanks to bad viewing angles(TN Panels) it really distracts me.

nope, dell u2711, but it doesn't really matter, the difference between the 27 and the 30 is 16:9 vs 16:10

Like I said before. Games don't support 16:10 natively, they are designed around 16:9 and then they zoom in on 16:10 monitors.

What you see vertically stays the same - you just lose the width on a 16:10 monitor. My gf is on a 16:9 Samsung, and it looks fantastic in game (you really notice the width). I play on a 16:10, and I bought a 16:10 Samsung before her, which I regret after seeing how good a 16:9 looks.

Personally it has nothing to do with resolution for me. You can choose between many monitors 16:9 and 16:10 all the way from 15" up to 42" and beyond mixing through loads of resolutions. I pick the ratio first and then choose the size at the correct resolution.

    16:9 - 1920x1080 - 24" is a perfect size and resolution combo.

Actually, here is a good representation of how it works. Using Diablos letterbox feature you can see what you miss.

    1680x1050 (16:10) Without letterbox

1680x1050 (16:10) With letterbox. What you see is what the 16:9 ratio sees, reduced in size to fit onto a 16:10 monitor.

That's what I am talking about, games are developed around 16:9 and zoomed in to fit 16:10 -> ergo 16:9 better for games.

If anyone is good with photoshop, could you overlay the images and colour the edges like above ? The pictures should be identical except for random NPC movement (and the extra black at the top due to letterbox)

I'd take the IPS as well. Yes some games are coded badly and doesn't handle 16:10 as it should. However WoW is fine in that regard and you will find a noticeable difference between 1920x1080 and 1920x1200 as vertical resolution is more noticeable in day to day usage. Worst comes to worst you can play at 1920x1080 on a 1920x1200 LCD. For 24"s 1920x1200 (running at 1080) will be roughly equivalent to a 23.5" 1920x1080 in terms of display height and width. 120Hz is nice but I highly doubt it will be noticeable for WoW.

p.s. The Dell is usually around $300. For that much you can get a Korean 27" with 2560x1440 IPS panel (same panel as the Apple ACD, Dell 2711 etc). Which IMO beats both your current options.

You would be buying it on Ebay and there are sellers that ship to Norway. However not much you can do about the size.
