[Books] Just finished game of thrones season 2,which book should I start reading?

Hello guys,Im almost on the final episode of game of thrones season 2(gonna watch it 2mmorow) and I want to read the books and continue the story. But mamy people tell me that if I start from book 3 i'd have missed lots of events happening on book 1/2 that the series haven't said..

So shall i start it from the start?(im kinda bored tho since I watched the whole series a week ago..) or from somewhere?

Btw can anyone list those "serious events" that weren't mentioned in the series? It'd be very helpful.. Thanks a lot in advance!

Start from the first book, The books have so much more in them then the show. I started from the first book and trust me its worth it.

you should have start by reading the books first... anyway, read them all form the start, things will appear clearer

Starting with book 1 (A Game of Thrones) would be the best but if you don't want to go back that far I suggest book 2 (A Clash of Kings) since that one, unlike season 1, diverges greatly from the tv series. If you start with book 3 you would miss several important plot points which haven't been covered yet in the series.

Just in case you hadn't heard it from enough people - start from book 1. The TV series does a pretty good job of retelling the book, but there are a considerable number of scenes and exchanges that are different in the books. Furthermore, one thing the TV show could never accomplish (without including a narrative for each character), is to give the viewer insight into the inner most thoughts of the characters. I haven't watched season 2 yet, but from the first season just for example, Catelyn Starks views on the war are considerably different in her head than she outwardly expresses toward Rob in the TV series. Certain lines have been given to characters that were previously said by another (one such scene is the exchange between Tyrion and Tywin in the war tent.)

Tyrion's character in general in the TV series is portrayed as a lot less capable physically than in the book - ie during the battle where he was leading the clansmen he wasn't knocked out from the get go, he cut down a number of people... during the battle for kings landing where he got axed in the face, he was an absolute bad ass.. when Catelyn was escorting him to the Eyrie and they get ambushed.. etc).

A lot of unnecessary scenes included in the TV series aren't in the book too (specifically some of the sexual encounters, which aren't necessarily bad, but feel like they're just thrown in to appeal to a wider audience as well as the gay community).

There are a whole lot of examples I could list but some take place further down the story and once I start I don't know if I could stop, it's easier if you just read from book 1.

As someone in a similar situation, I recommend at very least reading book 2 as others have said. I read book one after season one and felt like i was treading over old ground most of the time, but there were some really cool insights/additional info. Book 2 differs in many aspects from season 2, and book 3 is going to be split into two seasons.

Basically, don't skip book 2, I wouldn't suggest skipping book one, but if you can't hang around for it, it's not the end of the world. I read book one flying from alaska to connecticut with a long layover in the middle with nothing else to do, but i loved reading about the details.

I must admit that they are right. Have u heard that the book is always better then the movie ? That it shows much more ? Damn, this is the perfect example. I must say that after reading the books I watch the tv series just becouse I can. Do not find them entertaining and sometimes annoying becouse so much is changed !

As others have said, Book 2 the latest. Things have been twisted a lot in Season 2.

Well every book is one season as far as plot goes. Of course the two stories, while similar, have small differences. Alot of people will tell you to read the first two books.

Start from the first book. It has more stuff in it and things work differently in minor forms.

Umm, you should obviously start from the first book.
That would be like watching the first 4 Harry Potter movies then reading the books after that, it's silly!

Defo book number 1. I promise you, you won't be bored having already seen 2 seasons. The books are a different creature than the show. Taking part of both will only enhance your experience of the story.

    Start from scratch.

As far as book-to-screen goes, Game of Thrones is excellent... But the books are so much better than the series.

The entire series is about the power struggle and thought processes surrounding it, so the books going into even greater detail is a huge thing.

If you think Tyrion is cool in the series, wait until you read the books

Season one follows book one pretty well, so it's not necessarily a bad idea to start off with book two. Season two definitely takes a few things in very different directions though, so you'll want to make sure you at least read the second book.

You can't start the series anywhere but A Game of Thrones, otherwise it won't make any sense.

Even after seeing the TV show, I'd start at the beginning as it'll fill in plot details that the TV show glossed over or changed.
