Most businesses - both major and minor - in addition to the majority of people with access to a computer. It's very much like a double edged sword. On one hand it's a brilliant way to re-connect and catch up with lost friends, family members and associates; whilst on the other hand it's a big source of frustration and drama, as well as questionable privacy policies.

but pretty sure when you sign up to facebook you probably check something that says when you upload something to their site it becomes their property

I highly doubt there's an agreement that turns anything you upload into theirs (legally), or NO artist would EVER upload anything to there. But i would bet there's a free use agreement.

Yeah, Facebook never really took off much....on Mars. On Earth over 900,000,000 actively use it however. I think just about every business that has an internet presence also has a Facebook one specifically. It's essentially web 3.0 from my point of view.

I think Facebook is going to take an even more corporate approach to how it handles its "assets" so I would expect some changes to happen on that front, now that it's up on the stock market and more people are making money from it. I'm likely being a massive cynical douche when I say this but I doubt Facebook will remain closer to a social site by definition for long.

Millions of people, businesses just to name a few. It's a good way to promote, especially with so many people using it. It spreads the word faster. You might not use it, but at least be aware of why it actually has benefits.

Privacy setting let you opt out as with most of their bull. Also Firefox, Adblocker, Adblocker Plus and Adblocker pop blocker make facebook simple clean and ad free.

But they can't charge the product too.
