I have Rift on an SSD (Crucial M4 128g) and I still get to see the holograms from time to time.

Well surely it's a slow internet connection speed that triggers it?

Elrar posted about this back in early May
later he added:Hey all,
As some of you might know we've been working behind the scenes to get a streaming client ready for its debut - this means shorter downloads and ultimately less waiting to play!
These replacement models you're seeing is the client trying to render a model it doesn't have the data for yet and should only really be an issue after updates or if you have a period of high latency when receiving the data.
Obviously feel free to continue sharing feedback and let us know how it's impacting your experience - thanks all!
Yeah - that's pretty much the point, we thought this was a better solution than let you get wailed in the face by an invisible assailant or having to wait 10 seconds for the Porticulum Master to draw in the middle of prime time on a Sunday night.
I was going to ask for a screen shot of this next time if possible. I'm drawing a blank on this and don't recall seeing this. I never start my game prior to streaming download completion since I've got a decent internet connection so maybe this is why I don't see it?
/flex?
Its entirely possible. I live in New Zealand so tend to sit at around 200ms (if I'm not having a laggy period where it can go higher) and see them to a limited extent whenever I get into the cities initially. Last night I had to go down to using some wireless as a temporary access to the internet and noticed much more of it. Its not for overly long though - maybe twenty seconds at the worst before they've all pretty much been rendered.
I'd say its more connection than processing speed.
Can someone post a picture? I'm still not subbed (shame on me but $ is low) and I'd like to see these... giant.... green... condoms. >_>

It is not the count of your posts, but the quality of your posts that matter... luckily, I have both. ^_<

I managed to capture them as I ported into Sanctum tonight, they disappear in the space of about 10-20 seconds for me.
