€150 is a bit of the upper hand for the AD700s I reckon, expensive even.

I would recommend the SR60is, but with a strong note that they are "close" and doesn't come with a wide stage that games really "need". Dimensional sound queues will not be as prominent with these cans. Comparing the SR80is to my AKGs, I find that while the sound is better in the Grados games become a lot more enjoyable with the AKGs, especially games like Battlefield 3 where the dimensional sound is very potent.

Perhaps you can strike lucky and find the Sennheiser HD598 for around ~€140. They have dropped to 1350 SEK here in Sweden at least.

Others to check out would be the AKG K601 or the ATH-M50s around ~€100. The M50s are closed and offer fairly heavy bass but still a good stage. I'd say they are very "fun" in that regard. The K601s is more open and flexible, but lacks that "oomph". Afair, they are very similar to my K242s.

The only downside is the leather on the ear cups starts to wear away after a1-1.5 years, it's not too annoying and if you don't sweat a lot it will last a lot longer than that. Overall it's an amazing headset for your price range.
Looked up the headset and I see that a lot of people feel that it's "clamped" to your head, and I have a headset with leather earpads now too and I don't really like them.

If you're willing to shell out some extra money and really love your music and more specifically your gaming the Asus Xonar Xense package is amazing, it get's you a $200 soundcard and a $150 headset for just $250, those are in Australian dollars so that converts to about 200 euros, although given the rpice of things in Australia you could probably get it for about 150 euros. Amazing headset, ultra comfy, awesome sound, awesome mic, it does lack a little in the bass but that's because it's designed for gaming. I have only been using it for a day though, so you might want to get advice from more experienced users.
Hmm, I can get that for 230 euros, but it's not in stock anywhere.
The headset looks nice, with foam earpads.

I've used turtle beach for a long time, very comfortable with good sound and a good price.

Leather pads are actually good, if they're actual leather pads, the thing that makes your head sweat is faux leather and fine-textured leather, the best pad material you can get is perhaps lamb-skin leather, but that's a premium thing, What these lower end sets have is a polyester skin-like material that shuts your pores from any air, leading to immidate sweat.

Also, are there no specialized audio shops in your area? I have one in mine and i live in an area where there's no interest in music further then 2$ buds that last for days.
You'd do yourself a favour to try out the headphones, as just discussing it here can only throw you in the right direction, we dont *know* what sound YOU will like personally.
You should check out musical shops, such as thomann or guitar vendors, they would typically have high-end 'phones.(although nothing too fancy, just your run-of-the-mill monitors)

Also, if you have any interest in it, the K518 LE is a sweet deal.

Turtlebeach IMO are terrible. They just seem to be made cheap and break insanely easily.

I like the Solo version of Dre's Beats, the audio quality is good and the bass never crackles, and they block noise quite well for the size. they fold nicely, and the audio cable attaches at both ends and is replaceable which is nice if you have ever had a wire fray on an old pair.

They are a little pricy, but I like them. def overpriced but comfortable as hell and really slick looking.

If you are looking for a headset, I would recommend the Turtle Beach MW3 series, I have the cheapest one I use for raids, it's nice cause the cable is a few feet long so I can also use it with my xbox or sit on the couch while watching movies late at night. Pretty comfortable, but the cloth annoys me because my skin gets a bit oily and I hate not being able to clean it as well as the leather. Also my sideburns have a knack for getting caught in the fibers, so yeah go with leather if you can.

Monster beats isn't great at all. You pay for the design not the sound quality.

There's actually some Monster cans that are good, even decent. If design is a deal-breaker for you, then there are potent choices in their line-up. I believe both the "Studio" and the "Pro" versions of their Dr Dre line-up has received good general response. However, audiophiles will always be a tab bit more picky and I have yet to see them being recommended more over another pair. Nevertheless, they are decent. The Solo and Solo HD are just flat out junk though, not even worth it if you can pick them up for <$40.

As for your point, you pay a bit for the design - but you do this with all cans more or less. What you pay the most for is marketing, and the Dr Dre branding (which is essentially the same thing). Same goes for the Quincy Jones line-up from AKG and the Adidas gimmick from Sennheiser.

I play wow/d3 for long periods each night, watch movies and listen to music thru them everyday so i use them prob 6 or 7 hours each day and never had a problem of them hurting my head/ears at all. I would deff suggest you check into these.

if you have any decent sound card....IE Asus Xonar series..don't buy Astro A40s.

If its comfort you want then it has to be Radioshacks own brand headset you can get them for $4 on ebay. Now I know you think "$4 these have got to suck", Wrong! I have lots of headsets, multiple logitech, a couple of Sennheiser, multiple Plantronics, Psyko 5.1 surround, these suck balls but it was a freebee so i cant complain, and a few months ago I got pair of TRITTON AXPro which are fairly comfy. but still hands down the best headset for gaming has to be Radio Shack's, mic is clear, sounds good on teamspeak, ventrilo, Skype and Mumble, headset is super lightweight, and the pads are small and soft, its a headset that you forget you have on, downside of that is sometimes you get up and pull your PC with you. now you dont get the 3D sound or subwoofer effect you get with some of the other headsets but the sound you get is clear.
anywho as I said $4 on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/RADIOSHACK-L...item231e0615ba

For non travel a really good headset (as someone stated they break quite easily apparently (haven't experienced issues in the 11months i've got mine)

Next headset i'll buy will probably be something from astro, they have a better rep and look nicer imo (but are more expensive)

Razer Megalodon. The most comfortable headphones i've ever used. 12+ hours of gaming and i can't even notice they're on my head.

I really can't recommend these enough anytime anyone asks for a comfortable, great build quality headset.

You can't beat the price, and they hold up great. Sound quality is on par, and really a great all-around headset.

So turns out I can probably get a new sound card for free. How much of a difference will this make?

Something like the Asus XONAR Essence or the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium.

Then I will probably buy a Sennheiser headset myself to go with that.

Depends entirely on what you have right now, your source and what speakers/headphones you will be using. If crap goes in, crap will come out, no matter what awesome stuff you have. If awesome goes in, but comes out of crap, it will still be crap.
