with 27", 1920x1080 you have to still be close and I mean close to really see the pixels.

If you are "correct" then I need to check my eyes, for compare to 27" and 21" I really dont see a pixel diffrent with the same res. If I go for like 46" HD-TV then when Im getting close I see pixels buts that a diffrent story.
You don't really "see" pixels on a LCD screen, what matters is the sharpness of your image because if there are less pixels on 1 cm², the pixels become bigger and theres less color variety.

    For example on a 16:9 ratio with 24" you get w53xh30 = 1588cm².
    On a 16:9 ratio with 27" you get w60xh34 = 2010cm².

    1920*1080 = 2073600 pixels

    So ~1306 pixels/cm² on 24" and ~1032 pixels/cm² on 27".

That makes quite a big difference in image sharpness and color variety.

If you pump up the resolution to 2560 x 1440 you get 3686400 pixels or 1834 pixels/cm² on 16:9 @ 27", theoretically resulting in a much sharper image than 1920x1080 on 24" 16:9.

    isn't 24" at 1920x1080 considered better? (1080p)

Never experienced playing at 1920x1080. Ever since I got my HP 24' with my...Radeon 4870 I think it was, whenever I updated drivers the max resolution was always 1920x1200 so I went with that.

It's just extra screen real estate really but honestly, its perfect. Get 24' (and play at 1920x1200) and never look back.

    Games where I can't adjust the UI I prefer 24" over 27".

I prefer 1920x1080 at max size 23", a 1920x1200 on 24" would be okay, but if you want a 27", 2560x1440 or no bueno. I actually am currently using a 21.5" Acer S211hL 1920x1080 display, which is pretty damn good pixel-density, though I will not suggest the display because it has given me nothing but problems. Try getting a display from either Dell, Samsung, or LG.

21/22 inch is best imo. Big but not too big, games such as fps games for me personally are a lot more annoying to play with big screens, even other games you'll be having to spend more time looking around the screen. If you won't go lower than 24 then get 24 imo.

I JUST went (10 mins ago) from 28" to 24" and I can tell you. The 24" to me feels/looks way better.

Personally i have never experienced smudging at 1080p until you hit 32 inch and above.
i would disagree...it is just simply not as clear at 1080p on a 28in monitor as a 22 or 24, for gaming. it would be nice for movie watching though where i feel it makes less of a difference. if i personally was shopping for a 27in monitor i would only consider resolutions above 1080, which most likely would also mean adding another GPU is in your future.

HIGHER brightness? Damned thing is painful even at its lowest brightness setting! You sure you have the LED back-lit version? >_>

Possible... I turned my brightness down to 0 and it still murders my eyes on white/light-in-color pages/images.

I actually found 24 was slightly too big for me when I was using one on a regular basis. I opted for a 23 (dell u2311) and I feel a lot more comfortable with it. 1920x1080

I have a 24 inch myself and it feels quite big. I couldn't imagine having a bigger monitor especially since its about a 2 feet away from my face give or take. Do you know someone with these size monitors? Perhaps you could borrow them and just place them on your computer desk and see which one feels the best to you. As someone said in this forum, its all in the eyes of the beholder. Pick what suits you in size, looks and how well it fits on your computer desk with everything else.

Cut out a couple of pieces of cardboard from a cereal box, one 56cm by 41 cm and one 65cm by 45cm. Stand them on your desk. The first one is about the size of a 24" screen, the second represents a 27" screen. Make sure you are happy with having something that size on your desk. I usually find that a visual indication of how big something is helps me to find out if I really want it.

    Example:
I really wanted a big tower case for my new PC, until I got a meter stick out and saw how huge one of them actually is. Now I have the case I do, which I think is still a little on the large side, I am so glad I didn't go for a full tower.
