I've never played them, but I always thought they looked alright. I have had friends say good things about Red dead.

You could take a look at Lead and Gold on steam, store.steampowered.com/app/42120/, it's essentially a wild-west version of TF2. Not played it myself so can't attest to it's quality or if it has enough people playing it.

I'm looking for a new game, I have up to $80 to spend, and I would prefer it to be one that does take a while to finish. I'm looking for an RPG that keeps you engaged through the entire story, makes you WANT to play to advance further in the story. An FPSRPG would be okay as well, as long as it has a solid story.

My all time favourite RPG series would either be Witcher 1 and 2 or Fallout, from the original through to New Vegas. I also like some wacky humour, like the Fallout or even Borderlands series. Hope that helps.

    Thanks.

Might be worth taking a look at Gothic 1-3 and Risen 1-2. Risen series is the most recent and Gothic 1-2 are quite dated (square heads) but easily my favourite RPG games of all time, Gothic 3 or Risen 1 would be my first recommendations.

Gothic 3 is more free roam than Risen, definitely has a larger world, but both have a great level of freedom and story.

*edit* Brief overview: Gothic = Paladins, Dragons, Evil gods, Druids etc in a large open world. Risen = Pirates, Inquisition, Evil gods, Tribesmen etc on a series of mediterranean islands.

Dragon Age: Origins is very good. being a BioWare IP it takes some of it's mechanics from the old isometric BioWare RPG's with the pause-based strategy systems. It's a fantastic world that's got plenty of depth to it. I've spent over 70 hours on that game. It's setting is generic fantasy with a few unique bits and bobs.

Also, I'd recommend Mass Effect (The trilogy, they all kinda play out as one game with a continuous story). TPS-RPG (Third Person Shooter), very much in the style of KoToR with romance options, companions, the ability to take long breaks and explore the (Somewhat limited) world. It's a Sci-Fi setting, a completely original IP with lots of cool alien races, plenty of deep lore (Much like DA:O) and some very cool story elements.

Your characters (Commander Shepard, fully customisable BTW) are also copied over from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3 respectively so that choices made in the previous games are carried over.

Both games feature a conversation system. the Da:O one is more close to Witcher or Fallout with the Mass Effect one being a sort of wheel that has 3 options - a heroic option (Defined as "Paragon") a ruthless badass option (Defined as "Renegade") and a boring option no-one picks.
If you spend your entire life getting senpai to notice you, you'll never notice anyone else.

I'm between few games but I would like to focus on just one for long time and try to be really good at it. Those games are: Starcraft 2 Heart of the Swarm (I have not bought it because I'm not sure is it right game for me. I of course have Wing of Liberty version of it.) World of Warcraft, Dota 2 and Path of Exile.

And now to the actual problem. I like to play game where skill really matters. I remember that like 2-3 years SC2 was only game where skill really mattered. If you won match. It was because you was better than your opponent. If you lost... well you earned that loss. What I have read nowdays from HotS it's not so good balance that it used to be. At least I have heard that Zerg is under powered, Terran is really strong and Protoss air is ridiculously strong. If I want to play game which is skill based is SC2 only good option? And how good it is? Or is maybe Dota 2 even better?

At this moment I have only one friend to play with. I have played Dota 2 some time with him. But sometimes we just loose matches in that game because our team mates are horrible and they feed all game a long. Of course it's not alawys like that. But matches like those where you can't really do anything to win match no matter how well you play makes me think why I even play that game. What do you guys think about that?

Reason why I listed World of Warcraft to this list is because of Arena and nostalgia what I have with that game. I used to have over 4 friends playing this game in Wotlk and in last expansion cataclysm. Well times have changed. Nowdays I have only one friend playing this game now and then so Arena isn't even viable option because you need at least 3 guys to play 3on3 where this game is "balanced". WoW balance is worst of all these three. Or what you guys think?

As last option I said Path of Exile. Well I know it's not PVP game. In this game I think I'm my own worst enemy because I only like to play HC in Path of Exile. But always when I die im so close to uninstall whole game. Not because I died but because always when I die I don't even know why I died. Example as my last dead I just couldn't move or anything but I didn't have any debuff on me either. I'm not sure that is it that stun doesn't have own debuff or even own animation in that game (yet). Anyway I think that I don't patience to learn to be good on that game because it's not playing against other human beings. It's playing against computer and when you are good in that game it doesn't give me enough satisfaction.

I know that I give already little answers to myself but I would like to know what you think because it gives me whole new edge to this whole thing. If I should sum this whole thing somehow... Well I don't have everyday so much time to play which means normally that I can't play on any team or guild. I have work and I'm living in same house with my girlfriend. Sometimes I can play much sometimes I can't play at all... or maybe really little. Which would make my team mates really frustrated. Because of that it would be good to play some game what I can play all alone. In that case SC2 seems really good option. But is it for me? I hate loosing much but could I be able to overcome it? That's the question. I know that I'm able to everything if I want it enough but first I would like to know what's your opinions about current state of SC2 balance since I have heard really strange things about it.

As my final words of this post I also want to tell that I was adding to that game list Guild Wars 2 but I didn't do it because that game doesn't have good match making in my opinion. It just had good patch but it wasn't as good as I wanted. It was decent though. It's good PVE game but I think It's not for me. PVE is fun for me some time. But if I want to focus on some game. It really isn't Guild Wars 2.

I hope you guys can help me with this. As stupid is it sounds I can't figure this out myself.

    Thanks!

    ---

TLDR; I want to play competitive solo game and focus on it for years. What I should play?

Looking to play a new RPG. Progressive character power up (either via new weapon/armour upgrades or straight level up system) and/or good story. I have tried most of the suggested games such as mass effect (good games), dragon age: origins (don't like that combat system so didn't get very far), most Zelda games, The Witcher series are my favourite games I ever played and Oblivion and Skyrim. It should be noted that I haven't played Morrowind I am very interested in playing it and hear that I can get a sweet HD texture pack or something like that to enhance the experience, I'd like to know if I can ad this in via steams workshop system or another download option is viable? Also it should be said I haven't played any final fantasy games except 6 (or 3 whatever the one with the magitek or w/e) for awhile maybe 7 hours of gameplay lost my save and left it.

I have access to xbox 360, Wii u and a decent enough PC to play wither 2 on nearly full high settings. Any emulation software is within reason and suggested games may have this in mind. I am not worried about price or there lack of. Just want a nice game to play some.

    Edit: also have a 3DS.

Are you opposed to classic RPGs? There are a ton of them with good stories. I'm just curious since the examples you posted are more adventure-RPG hybrids. There is a huge library of RPGs available on virtual console for Wii U.

@Jackmbhoy: I think you could like the Gothic / Risen games, they fit quite well in the list you posted. Gothic 1,2,3 were available as a package during the steam summer sales, so it should be possible to get them. Risen should be available on Steam, too. Note that the games, especially Gothic, are a bit older, so if you like a HD texture pack for Morrowind you'd want to search for one for those too.

And, now to my question: I have played many of the D&D rule based games I know, and liked everyone of them. I'm seaching for more good ones, and the list is quite big, so it's hard to choose.
I played: Baldurs Gate 1+2+addons, Icewind Dale 1+2 (no addons), Neverwinter Nights 1+2+addons (except Storm of Zehir / Mysteries of Westgate), Planescape Torment (I didn't play that one yet, but I already bought it and will play it when I have time for it).
A complete list to refresh the memory: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...ns_video_games

PS: I'm also open to other suggestions for classic RPGs, but I think most of them I already consumed. The combat system / level-up system should be OK (nothing too fancy), but what I really like are good stories.

    Hi All,

I'm looking to get some suggestions for a RPG for PC. I currently do not have an internet connection at home, so I'm looking for either a very long or highly re-playable (as in, its fun to start new as a different class / type and play through again) RPG. The last single player RPGs I played were Champions of Norrath and FF7/8. It has been a while (obviously) and I've missed a lot of good titles.

I do enjoy a good hack n' slash dungeon crawler, but would prefer some depth in character choices. Storyline doesn't matter all that much. I really, really enjoy character / gear advancement. One of my favorite game features of all time was the materia system in FF7 (not finding the materia, but trying to min/max for different situations). I seriously spent just as much time playing with materia as I did traveling through the game.

Any age of PC game is fine...don't care if its from 1998 or just came out. I just want my money spent to go a long way. I play the ever-living shit out of each and every game I play...I think I went through FF7 three or four times.

    Titles I'm considering picking up:

Skryim - looks like I can get it on Amazon for $25. I have heard good things, but have never seen it played.

Dragon Age: Origins - again, cheap on Amazon for $12. A buddy of mine I know from back home played through it once and enjoyed it.

Mass Effect - have heard great things. No idea what the game is about, how deep, or how long it is...but its being considered.

edit: saw a post above me mention Kingdoms of Amalur - is that "Reckoning" or is there an original version? I watched the gamespot review and it looks fun.

    Thanks in advance!

Skyrim is a huge open world where you can do what you want, when you want. There are several seperate questlines which follow their own story, for example the mages guild, the companions or the dark brotherhood and of course then main story. Each one is not exactly long, around 4-6 hours average maybe a bit more, but together and also counting the sidequests, crafting, exploring and hunting for daedric artifacts and ... you can easily fill more than 100 hours on one char alone.
The same freedom applies to your character aswell. There are no classes, there are just skills like Light Armor, One Handed Weapon or Destruction Magic and many more, which you level up by simply using them. If you have leveled enough skills, you gain a level up yourself and can spend 1 talent point (or perk how they are called here) to further specialise a skill of your choice, like slowing time when aiming with bow and arrow or more ingredience when pickung up herbs for Alchemy.

This games strongest points are an amazing story and very enjoyable conversations. Now its been a long time since i played it myself, so forgive me if my memory betrays me
The combat feels rather slow. Next to yourself you can choose up to 2 companions, so a little micro is required. Although you can "define rules" for your campanions, like which skills to use when and stuff like that, if you want to just focus on your own character. You choose 1 class in the beginning and can later advance that class to gain addional skills, for example rogue into bard or mage into blood mage.

The ME trilogy is an all around awesome experience and should not be missed. Each games story is incredible and connects right to the other games, to the point where you can import your saves, so all your choices (there are alot!) carry over to the next game. I blasted through all 3 games in 1 week, just because the story kept me on the tip of my toes.
The combat system in ME1 is pretty different from ME2 and 3, in which it is much slower paced. Your skills have much longer cooldowns, and your weapons use an overheating system instead of ammo, which took some time to get used to, but the story more then makes up to it. In Me2 and 3 the combat is much smoother and interesting. You can use your abilitys to your hearts content and even combine them for devastating effects. Like in Dragon Age, you choose 2 companions for each mission, which feels even better than in Dragon Age.
Also, dont let the ME3 ending haters get to you, just play the 3 games and see it for yourself before you judge it. I found it to be very satisfying.

Thank you for the detailed reply, I really appreciate it.

I did more research on KoA - "Reckoning" is the original (and only) version. Curt Schilling's 38 studios did it, and they're now out of business I guess.

I think KoA is more like your generic hack n slash RPG...good combat, some character customization, but overall lacking depth, story, and is a bit linear.

In time, I think I will play all four titles. The difficulty is trying to decide which one to start with.

Do any MOBAs work for 2 person co-op?

Is there any MOBA that has a custom mode where you can have 2 human players on the same team and all other players are bots?

  17. #437
    Airmech.

It's a bit of an RTS / MOBA. Though the game is excellent.

    That looks interesting.

I'm looking for a MOBA to play with a female friend and she wouldn't be good with the RTS aspect of Airmech.

You can play custom games in League of Legends...2 people vs. 2 bots (I think?)

Yeah, also pretty sure you can do 2 people + 1 bot vs 3 bots.
