PlayStation2 - How do Memory Cards work?

    Aloha,

I have a rather simple question. Is every data from games saved on the Memory Card or do you need the game-CD (as in exactly that same game-CD) as well for it to work?
For example: If my old CD got scratches on it, can I simply buy a new one and then continue where I was? Or is some of the data somehow saved on the CD itself? Or does the CD simply provide the possiblity of "accessing" the data of that game?

    Thanks in advance!

Memory card contains all the saved data. The CD only has normal game data. Yes if you mess the CD up and buy a new one, you will still have the save files on your memory card

Yeah, but be sure to buy same region CD. NTSC and PAL saves aren't compatible (well, at least in most cases).
