New line of work - suggestions?

I have recently been laid off, I thought being on unemployment would be an okay way to spend the summer - but i have no realized it is not for me.

bit of background, I am fully bilingual - I was enrolled in the early immersion program for 12 years. I graduated highschool and went to university and got a degree in Criminology, loved it. After graduation from university I was employed 9months at a jail as a guard. I then received a new job at a nuclear power plant doing security.

And thats where the post begin, I am laid off on unemployment. The reason I feel this is not for me - I am not much for sitting around and doing nothing, but don't have the cash to be doing what Id like..

I have several friends out West of Canada working on the oil rigs, thinking of giving them a resume and if it worked out I could drive my car across the country and experience working hard for good money. I believe they do something like fourteen 12 hour days and 5 off after. I would be fine with this line of work i think..

anyone know of any other oppurtunities rite now? I KNOW- hilarious spot to post about my life and look for work, but I browse these forums every day even though im not an avid gamer anymore. I like the community and hope this post can be criticised positively or negatively - guidance of sort would be nice.

tldr - looking for work, looking for work.

Well, criminology isn't the best degree ever (studying for it myself), but everything in the social sector can use people with that degree.
Or just look up where they have jobs working in security.
And the police force always needs people.

Oil rigs are good and lucrative work. You could also look into seismic exploration if you're looking for oil industry rotational work.

If you can get into that Oil job- go for it. Try to do something where you can specialize in it, like Stonemasonry.

If you ARE looking for oil rig jobs, look in the US in North Dakota. Tons of private land that, since it's not government owned, has a ton of people working there. Great pay, tough work, but sounds like you'd enjoy it.

Yeah, North Dakota is a good place to be in the industry right now, and it shouldn't be difficult to find a job there. Do that a few years and get some experience under your belt and there are a lot of directions you can go from there.
