They didn't wipe out the troggs, they just imprisoned them.

So as long as the Mogu fulfill their primary function without going too far, the Titans might not care about them being overly cruel.

I prefer to think of them as simply turning out that way on their own. Like the dwarves, they developed on their own and gave rise to a new culture largely independent of Titan influence - it just happens to be a pretty rotten one.

I agree with this, especially now that we know the Mogu are connected to the Titans somehow for certain.

Assuming that they were created by the titans, whatever purpose they were created for may have required them to be brutish and cruel, or that may have been a reaction to what they had to do-- if they were jailors of something, for example, we've seen a number of real-life studies that show that people in that position can become cruel.

Alternately, them being corrupted by an outside influence is possible, but I agree that the titans either creating them to be cruel, or them learning to be cruel on their own is more interesting.

Maybe what they originally were caused them to be a bit confused and lost after a certain force affected them.

Is it me or do the Mogu kinda look like the Oompa-Loompas from the first Chocolate Factory movie?

Also I'd assumt they somehow have some genetic proximity with the Pandaren

Also, there is lore precedent for native races turning Titan creations to their own ends, although not so far as we're seeing there. The aqir and their obsidian destroyers come immediately to mind; these monsters were enslaved and twisted tol'vir gained from a time in the extreme far distant past when a Titan research station in Uldum was ransacked. Apparently the qiraji gained some knowledge of how to create new tol'vir/obsidian destroyers from this escapade although AFAIK this has never been gone into in detail.

The Mogu are related to the titans, in some way or another.
Take a look at the Elegon fight, not only does it look amazing, but it further proves the link.

Which raises a further point. Would Elegon (presumably being a Titan defense system or whatnot (What is Elegon actually protecting in the instance?)) allow the Mogu to mess with the Titan facility?

Or would the Mogu even be able to reprogram Elegon to work for them? So much stuff to ponder...

Well, there we go. Mogu aren't related at all to the Titan's, but rather used Titan technology they found in a mountain.
But they have to be pretty smart if they managed to reprogram the Celestial Dragon thing to not kill the Mogu.

So it would seem, although there is still the question of their ultimate origin. Presumably the 'wild brutes' they once were are merely another naturally occurring evolved race, like the trolls.

It may be speculated that then the Mogu used some stolen titan technologies from nearby ruines and turned themselves into the creatures of stone.
You're wrong. But they also don't have your typical story that we got with similar races. Unfortunately you'll have to wait for 5.1 to find that out the truth behind them as their story (and the Zandalari's) doesn't end with 5.0.

The Mogu are not related to the Titans. They're an ancient brutish race that gained intelligence from the water in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, the same way as the Jinyu evolved from Murlocs. It's this same intelligence that allowed them to learn how to make use of the Titan technology left around the continent. The Mogu essentially learned how the equipment operated and turned the Titan defense systems and facilities into their own.

Elegon being in the Mogu'shan Vaults doesn't mean the Mogu are related to the Titans. Elegon is just another defense construct and piece of Titan technology that the Mogu could have reprogrammed.

It's even stated in game under their archaeology tab that they aren't related to the Titans. They just mastered the Titan's own technology for their own uses.

Bumping this, because I was drawing the conclusion that Mogu were another Titan construct, but this thread was helpful in setting me straight.
