    [Radio] Now and then

Am I the only one that dislikes some radio stations to this date?

Here in Holland we have a radiostation that also tunes on the TV, which makes you able to witness and see what they're doing. To be frankly honest, I have been listening and watching for an hour and I am already past the edge of insanity and suicide.

I will discribe what I saw and heared on my TV in the past hour:

    - A Playboy woman
    - Another playboy woman
    - A 3rd playboy woman
    - One of them plays with a banana ( she is blond ) and makes stupid comments about it
    - In the hour of radio, there was 30 min talking, 10 min "jingles and funny quotes", 5 min of commercials, 10 min of chatting with the "pornstars" and 5 min music.

Is this really todays standard? Getting viewers/listeners with "funny quotes, funny moaning"

I thought radio was for listening to music, not listening to people ramble for over half an hour. If I want to hear that shit I'll go to my local market and listen to all the old folks bitching.

Am I getting old or are some radiostation desperate trying to get listeners?

I haven't listened to a single radio station for about two years. XM/Sirius is actually pretty good.

The radio where I live sucks, but at least they actually play music with a minute or two of commercials after every other song.

I listen to Pandora mostly anyway.

Well, talk radio has pretty much been around as long as music radio. Even most music stations will have part of their time dedicated to DJ / radio hosts, mostly during the morning and afternoon commute times. Those times are always when stations get the largest amount of listeners. As for the funny quotes/clips and sexual orientated content, you can blame the popularity of "shock jocks" for that. Radio for the masses and the masses like stupid humor and hot chicks. Radio is a dying industry and DJs are the one thing broadcast radio has over ipods. Since just about everyone has a MP3 player of some kind these days there is really no reason to listen to an all music station vs. just using your MP3 player to listen to whatever music you want to, whenever you want to.

I don't think I have actually listened to a regular radio station in like 5-8 years if not more. I had Sirius for awhile but decided it really was not worth the money to me. Now I just use my ipod and listen to audio books or podcasts for commutes and long drives (I make an 11 hour each way trip to my parents house 3-4 times a year and audio books are a godsend on those) and just make playlists of my music any other time.
