    LMAO @ the vid....wow

edit: i wonder if people in this thread that really know their stuff would make a 'guild' (if thats possible) where noobs like me can ask questions. i only ask because i can't even imagine the global or trade chat during open beta. i can already see the insane amount of trolling of d3 vs poe lawl

Global chat during the closed beta has been quite helpful...unfortunately with the recent influx of apparent idiots that don't read anything about the game or tooltips ingame is starting to frustrate people so it's best to avoid some questions like,

What is the best class/spell (there is no best)
Is this item good (something might be trash for you but gold for someone else or a specific build)
How dose <item/spell> work (stuf is prety descriptive and even if you are not sure try it)

There is also going to be a metric shit ton of new players , trolls and tards trying to turn the chat into the "new barrens" chat so many will have chat closed.

Feel free to ask here though

As for the dualist video you linked...yup it's still viable, the vid may be old but other than bug fixes and some minor tweaks the version he is running is the same as what the closed beta is now.
There is a lot of changes coming in the open beta patch but we only have some hints at what's getting changed and nothing really for that end of the tree...will wait and see

Shadow has a lot late game defense potential. Above Duelist for sure. This is due the fact Shadow has access to Energy Shield nodes from the Shadow and Witch side.

As a defensive system Energy Shield often out scales Evasion [the worst], Armor [power early/weak late] and Life [limited]. Most late game Shadows go Chaos Inoculation currently. However, even with the changes to CI in OBT ES remains a strong defensive system for hybrid Life/ES builds. There are 2 easy clusters of Life and ES for the Shadow which are early in the tree as well.

Every class can do every thing and essentially reach/use the same nodes/skills. The only real impact class has on the game is starting point.

A Marauder [Barbarian] can very well use a bow, sword, wand of cast spells like a Witch [mage]: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqwdiOdYfkI

Where as a Witch could actually be full melee tank, spell caster or double dagger backstabber: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_aP9O0Vnt0c

Rangers can be masters of 2 handed weapons, bows or 1h/shield: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqvE66YFRO4

Class is all about where you start on the tree and how fast certain skills/nodes are accessed.

I'm looking to do a dual claw build once OB starts (been playing mostly ranged in CB), and was wondering if I should lean more towards energy shield and/or evasion, and if I should worry about dual/claw physical and dual block. I was thinking of Inoculation with Ghost Reaver, the two nullification circles, Spirit Raker, Eagle Talon and Claws of the Pride circles. From there, I can go up for more energy shield, or down for more claw damage/block stuff. I'm just not sure if something like this is a good base.

ES/Life hybrid is really strong. And there are some pretty good early level life nodes near the shadow start area that can carry you into Merc easily.

I would not use Ghost Reaver on a melee build. Can't regenerate enough ES compared to the massive damage you are taking in melee. But you might figure out a way to make it work where I could not.

I did use GR on a spell caster and bow Shadow and found the combination to be extremely strong.

Closed beta has been going for some time now. I don't know how long fencers has been in beta and how long the support packs have been on sale but as little as a $10 support pack when they launched it could get you into the closed beta.

Interesting enough they raised $2.2million in pre launch support packs to help this small Indie devolper out.

Kind of crazy that some people pay 1k for a videogame
Even if I was a millionaire I wouldnt spend that much money on a game.

I know what you mean, lol I've seen a lot of these packages on Kickstarter and such I could never justify spending 1000 dollars on something that I like just to be able to play it and design an item or something like that.

so open beta starts at the 23rd? how long is it going to last? will there be a character wipe at the end?

Think they said that it would be something like 6 to 8 months but that's subject to change...not that it matters, once it's open beta your character will never be wiped/reset to level 1 again nor will your stash, at best you may get a skill point reset depending on the changes.

Lol, I'm messing around with passive skill tree with Shadows...my god, it's confusing lmao

How do you even get to Chaos Innoc? It's all filled with int stuff, does a dual-wield type even need int?

    http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-s...EA2xoQe_VLvjo=

That's all I got come up with and even then, I don't think I'm getting the hang of this...I can't even tell where the starting positioning for Witch is so I can make my way there...

    that looks nice

Not at all. I crafted most of my gear for my characters. All my gear is essentially "perfect" for my build. Multiple 6L chests [all +20%], 4L in every slot per level. All my gems are maxed, near maxed and most are above +12% quality.

I just been playing for like a year+.

The tree like the gear and skill system is intuitive. It all becomes second hand and eventually you know all 1.4-16k nodes off the top of your head.

    Int is useful.

The only stat that increases damage by default is Strength. And only or melee weapons.

In Path of Exile, Int/Str/Dex are for meeting item & skill requirements. Don't forget as you level gems like Discipline, Purity or Lesser Multiple Projectiles, Iron Will, etc-- the respective Int/Dex/Str required increases as well.

No class really uses or is restricted to all "dex" or "int" skills. There are just skills.

    I tried this build : http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-s...lJO3J-GYpMsQ==

As dagger/shield Shadow. It's for a level 70-ish character. Was okay and far from optimal. I am sure one could improve it quite a lot.

I found the build extremely squishy without a shield. Even with the shield, I was scrambling for survival. Thus I respec'd into more life nodes. Perhaps you can find a better balance of offense/survival.

Open beta is essentially the release of the game. It is what is called a "soft" release.

GGG expect the game to have the "open beta" tag in the sense of Minecraft or Asian MMOs-- 8 months to a year. Devs went on a press tour this week for the OB/release.
This is it, this is the game.

There will be no more character wipes.

You would be good as any to ask. Do you feel there is substantial re-playability of this game? I understand that Act III is coming with open beta and only Alpha players have been testing Act III. I can only assume the game will go live with 3 acts but I heard from one of the mods in game that they plan on releasing more acts over time as many as 10.

I hate to bring other games into the picture but I personally lasted I think 3 months with D3 came back when the paragon level patch came in I returned and got to IDK lvl 6 to 9 and haven't gone back since. I have no problem with RNG but D3's loot RNG and core game was terrible IMO and most of the gear I got I sold and then bought what I needed of the AH in other words I spent more time watching the AH then playing the game to actually progress in the game.

I enjoyed D2 for almost 2 years until the dupes/hacks etc etc went full blown but can we expect this game to not wear thin in a short amount of time ( I know this is subjective this is why I gave my D2 background as reference) assuming the dev's continue to add and do what's needed to sustain the game?

I'm not him, but re-playability is through the roof, character development wise. You can imagine all sorts of exotic, not-so-optimal builds and try to reach the heavens with it. Thing is, it's your journey, your choice. You can build however you like and I would argue that there's still much, much more to explore and discover.

Random maps give you a feeling of change, while the storyline progression has randomized characteristics, better than Diablo III, a little less random than Diablo II (although some caves are really pretty random).

For example, I'm working on a Staff Shadow (which starts on the opposite end of most staff masteries) and on a Tempest Shield Witch. The last one needs a little more thought, but, you know, whatever you can imagine.

Aye, thanks. Yeah the passive talent tree is best described as map of a major city. I just loved it and the mechanic system of the game is well fleshed out from what I've seen. I'm sure there are some areas that require room for improvement I've heard things like group play can have far to many spell effects going on etc but I can deal with that. I noticed maps do change to an extent maybe a bit more then I experienced in D3 but not as much as D2 as you say.

The fact it's f2p with a cash shop means low risk I have tossed them a bit cash already for a supporter pack since the game grabbed my attention quickly and the points they gave you are 1 to 1 for the cash shop so I've done my part.

I guess bring on the open beta at this point!
