Blizzard wouldn't "ban" the players just because of using Linux... although not a huge number, they are still a lot of customers, Blizzard is a making money company, they won't ban anything that can get them money...

I think those two kids thought they wouldn't get caught and cheated, and now are just looking for fame... so NO Blizzard is not banning Linux users (I'm playing D3/WoW on Debian)

Well, since there is no sub in d3 its possible they could just never use the rmah and they would be nothing but a leech on bandwidth so...

Yeah I get your point, but Blizzard having a real bandwidth problem, I don't think it's likely to happen... and even if Linux users don't use RMAH those are many "$60" that the company wouldn't recieve if they decided to just ban an entire OS.

Hmm. Speaking on the part of potential non-hack programs running on Taylor or Cheng's PCs... I think its a very real possibility. For anyone familiar with Terraria, the game allows a 3rd party server hosting program to be used, which is ran in a DoS window (the program is called Tshock, which allows other users to connect to your PC and play on your Terraria "server"). I've found that EAs Punkbuster anti-hack system, will automatically deny me access to Battlefield 3 servers, if I have Tshock running on my PC. If I close out Tshock, Punkbuster is once again a happy camper, and lets me right on in.

I haven't tried playing D3 with Tshock running though. I know WoW could care less if Tshock is up though, so there is no telling what Taylor or Cheng could have had running in the background, if indeed that was the problem to begin with. However, in closing, I do believe its a real possibility.
If you love / enjoy WoW in its current state, don't bother with my signature...with all due respect, its not for you. (note: I am happy and respectful though, of your enthrallment with WoW... if not a little envious!)

They cheated, plain and simple. Thought it was funny when they said if they were cheaters, why would they want to be investigated. The thing is, most of the cheaters DO ask to have their accounts investigated. Funny to read all the people asking why they get banned on wow/xbox/ps3/steam/dayz then having a mod post what they did.

    What's to discuss here?

Some guys got caught cheating and then tried to blame Blizzard by claiming they wrongfully banned lots of linux users and some idiot posted this crap in an insanely biased article on some obscure website i've never heard of before
This is absolutely the attitude and language that, in this community, needs to go sit in the corner for a while. If you can't stand the thought of there being multiple difficulty tiers of content -- into which we pour a lot of our development efforts -- to make raiding feasible for more than 2% of players, hit Heroic mode, turn on vent, and repeatedly remind your friends how good you are. I have no doubt they care

It's free. Some people don't have the money to purchase Windows.

blizzard just outplayed them, they thought that they can get away with cheating with botters over wine on linux which emulates windows API and now they are crying lol...cause they got busted..lmao.. even bashiok said they double checked and that they have undeniable proof..

Interesting, I always knew Terraria was a pain-in-the-ass game (J/k!)

Windows can be free too, just about anything in the 32/64bit world can

Some dude gets banned for cheating, gets irate and claims it's for something else. That's new...

  14. #94
I hate Blizzard as much as the next guy, but I am 100% sure it's bullshit. I am betting on there being a far higher percentage of cheaters among Wine users. If you are using Wine you have the software experience to Bot.

I would ban Wine users too, as it is unacceptable to allow running a commercial product in environment which can allow uncontrolled cheating and datamining. The only sensible decision is to prohibit using of the product in other conditions then digitally signed binary environment and a real hardware.

Running wine doesn't allow cheating and datamining.

Do you even know what wine is?

It replicates a windows environment without actually being windows. Think of it as a VM, not an emulator, or are those horrible for you too.

I seriously doubt he knows what a virtual machine is, when he's sprouting garbage like that

It seems very easy to make Blizzard the bad guy nowadays.
Cheat, get banned, whine about it, other whiners rally behind.

+1 if an unrelated webpage writes a subjective and biased article, with such highlights as
"So if Bashiok thinks they shouldn't disclose personal account information about account actions, why did he mention he had an authenticator?"
    COMPELLING EVIDENCE OF A CONSPIRACY.
    Nyoro~n? (´・ω・`)

WoW, Sub Decline, and Age:Sigh, it's like trying to run a school but there's no children being born. Eventually everyone will graduate.

That sounds like they are really stretching it, to be honest. I would be able to take people heavily disliking the game and/or criticizing it more seriously if I did not hear stuff like that coming from them.

For me, it sounds more like ...

    *puts sunglasses on*

    ... they wined about it!

    YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

On a serious note, Blizzard obviously want to ban customers and not reverting the bans if they were unjustified, just imagine the gain they get for just banning random users, it's glorious. For every Linux user they ban, the ACVT stock jumps 0.5 points, you know! (Sadly WoW is MacOS combatible, or they would gain 1 point on the stock for every apple user banned, for real!)

Oh that wasn't the serious note either, I think the writer of that article stole it from me, to build a tinfoil hat
