    GTX 770 Performance

Seems like its not a rebranded GTX 680 as its beating the 7970Ghz

    Source: http://www.overclock.net/t/1394792/v...70-performance

The GeForce GTX 770 would be 9% faster than Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition. The difference mostly depends on the resolution. The 384-bit wide memory bus on Radeon card gives significantly higher memory throughput while playing games with more detailed textures. However, if you are 1080p gamer, then GTX 770 will do just fine.

It is a rebranded 680 that is slightly higher clocked on the GPU and 1 GHz higher on the memory.

Also the performance slides are taken directly from Nvidia and not an independent source so take them with a grain of salt.

Aren't the software-side updated like boost 2.0 also noteworthy, though?

if that card is still as expensive or more expensive then the 680, its still bad performance to money ratio, its not even stating those cards were OC, its barely much better then the 7970 considering i bought my sapphire 7970 GHZ vapour x which is a GHZ card for £318 new...., if its priced well, then all the power to it, im a fan of good prices on either fence if they actually do decent prices

I think it will be a 500-500$ card imo

No absolute frame-rate values on the y axis --> useless.

Anyway, I'd expect it to perform about the same as a GTX 680, given that it IS basically a GTX 680.

Wouldnt you expect 5-10% improvement from the 680 given higher speeds and software updates?

    This is hardly official.

Rebranded - People keep using that word. I don't it means what they think it means.

[The 770] is based on a new GK104 – 425 improved 28nm core. The current GTX 680 has the GK104-400-A2 core, and the 425 implies some slight optimization and changes.

These optimizations are whats responsible for the higher clocks, especially the memory clock.

Some leaked benchmarks show the 770 at about 10% faster than the 680 which would make it slightly faster than the 7970 Ghz.

Although, I have no doubt that Nvidia cherry picked benchmarks favoring the 770.

Again, they aren't the same chip. They're very similar, but still different.

Actually Nvidia realized their GTX 600s had their memory severely underclocked :P Pretty much any reference and non-reference GTX 600 can do ~7GHz on the memory. Furthermore if they actually changed anything worthwhile they'd change the entire GPU's SKU just like they did with the GTX 400's -> GTX 500's (GF100-GF110) where they actually improved the clock speed. All the GTX 770 is doing is raising to clock speeds that any GTX 680 is already capable of. So think of it more as a factory overclocked GTX 680 because that's all it really is lol.

Yeah, mine's sitting comfortably at 7108 with reference cooling.
And it's with memory the GTX 600 gain the most performance due to the slim membus.

So is it worth waiting for the 7 series or just buy a 6 series and its fine? or wait for 7 series release for a better deal on not so different 6 series cards?

Honestly if you aren't aiming for a GTX 780 then the GTX 600s are still perfectly fine. I'd still wait though since the GTX 770 is due on Thursday/Friday timeframe. As far as pricing goes the GTX 780 came out at about $150 more than what was projected so I honestly expect the GTX 770 to scale accordingly as well.

But the SKU did change. GK104-400 to GK104-425.

Also, factory clocking is tested with more stringent standards than user overclocking. Just because everyone can OC their 680 up to 1046 Mhz doesn't mean the 680 should be stock clocked at 1046 Mhz.

There are factory overclocked GTX 680s at 1046 and even 1058MHz provided by EVGA So it is essentially a factory clocked GTX 680. I guess I should correct myself then.. If anything worthwhile was changed then the main SKU would change and not just the subset SKU. With the GTX 460's for example there were about 4 different "revisions" of the GPU itself but none of them performed any better than the other. They all had the GF104 SKU with a different subset SKU. This same thing can also be said about the GTX 465, 470, 480 and even into the GTX 500s did the same principle apply with revised GPU's.

The actual specified limit of the Samsung GDDR5 is 7GHz, which is why most every GTX 600 can be easily overclocked to 7GHz and why Nvidia along with realizing their memory performance is severely limited on the GTX 600s has decided to raise it to the maximum specifications of their GDDR5.

The (reference at least) memory manufacturer of the GTX 600-series is Hynix.

Ah, I've seen Samsung used on some of the non-reference so it's possible I mixed them up lol. I know the GTX Titan, 690, 780 all use Samsung.

But even still, the Hynix memory used on the GTX 680/670/etc is rated for 6.5-7GHz.

The Samsung memory used on 770 looks to be a beast, one of the leaked benchmarks I've seen had the memory clocked at 8.2GHz
