    Blacklight: Retribution F2P Futuristic FPS

Hello everyone, Not seen much love for Blacklight: Retribution on this forums so I decided to make a thread to gather some information and discuss aspects of the game.

What is it? Blacklight: Retribution is a modern day semi futuristic free to play first person shooter (Yes.. Another one). The game was published by Perfect World and is infact a sequel to Blacklight: Tango Down. The game looks quite good for a free to play, Graphics style is interesting to say the least and the amount of customization is insane!

Whats different about this one? Well not much really, Most shooters tend to stick to the generic Call of Duty/Every other modern day shooter feel just. This game has the generic game modes such as; Deathmatch (FFA), Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Domination, KOTH (Capturing certain Objectives) and Kill Confirmed. You also get to call in rewards each kill, assist or capture you get you gain points then you use these points to purchase a reward such as Powerful weapons, Mech suit ect..
One of the things that not many other games have done, or done well which BLR has is the renting system. Rather than me trying to explain this on here I'll just leave Mr. Biscuits video here this explains it quite good.

So whats your opinion on this game, Do you enjoy it/Hate it or about to try it?

I'm playing it right now and I must say I am enjoying the game a lot. I'm only around level 4 or 5 so I'm a bit new but aside from the weapon customization it really is just like call of duty but with the hyper reality visor(lets you see everyone regardless of terrain for a few seconds without letting you use your weapons) it gives it a bit of a different feel. I've played a few free to play shooters and this is definitely the one I liked the most.

I haven't downloaded it yet but I've watched my boyfriend play it with some of our online friends and I'm tempted to give it a go. It looks pretty decent for a F2P game, despite the fact that my heart rests with Tribes Ascend.

Never actually got it to run. Reinstalled it and it didn't work. It just freezes at the launcher.

I've been having problems with patching. It would just freeze up but i found it was because i was not running as admin. It couldn't copy files to where it needed too.

Tell your boyfriend he has good taste.

Blacklight Retribution doesn't look very interesting to me, too same-y. There's a lot of generic sci-fi COD/Halo clones out there. This one might have a lot of avatar customization but I'd rather have a good game.

Dammit, My account or the game in general seems to be glitched.. I've played about 5 games now and earned quite alot of GP (In-game gold you use for purchasing/renting) but its not actually displaying on my account -_-

The gun im using is crap! Everyone else is running around with big powerful guns and im using what feels like a nerf gun

I started playing this after I saw TB's WTF Is on it a few days ago, and it's great fun. I suggest playing it with friends if you can, because while you can lone wolf the game and still find it enjoyable, having more people you can communicate with makes the game much funner. Hopefully none of your friends like to rage (like mine do...).
The unlock system reminds me of APB, but done better. The gun customization is a feature that I really love.
And AVR... Or whatever it's called. It's a wall hack, pretty much. It allows you to see where all enemies are on the map for a short amount of time. It runs like the sprint bar in most games, you use it until you turn it off or it runs out. But you have to wait until it's recharged fully back to use it again.
However, you cannot do anything except move and look while use it, so it's fairly balanced. And everybody has it.

The AVR makes the game a run and gun. You cannot hide in a corner, you cannot camp. It turns the game into a run-and-gun, fast paced game that makes you pay attention to your surroundings. They even do a good job doing sound indicators to tell you when someone is around. Not anything like a PING PING PING sound, but you'll hear footsteps, or voices, or maybe a gun reloading. It's really a great way to do it.
There is also no minimap, which I'm fine with because I never seem to pay attention to them in FPS's.

You get in-game currency to rent upgrades and different parts of the weapons. And you get enough for a piece in one or two games, depending on how well you do. And if you put in some time into the game, you will have zero problem affording the rentals. And renting and customizing isn't even painful process, it's really quick and easy.
You also get an in-in-game currency, called CP. I forget what it stands for, but it's not child pornography. You can buy different things like ammo refills or health refills (your health only regenerates to half of max). But you can also get something called the hardsuit, which is like a little mech anyone can pilot. But it's fairly balanced because you can find it's weakpoint (mechs don't always share the same weak points; some will be what connects the arm to the gun, or the ammo rack for the gun, or the shoulder, or something) using the AVR. Or you can just torch it with a flamethrower or a rocket launcher, both are effective.

But for those not interested in modern military shooters, or anything that feels like CoD/BF3/Halo in how the game plays or how the shooting feels, then pass this game up. I personally wanted to play a modern military shooter but don't have any of the three games above, so this game works very well for me.

I recently downloaded it last night and am not regretting it thus far. It's a very solid F2P FPS.

Going to be downloading this. Saw an MMOHUT video on it a while back and completely forgot about it. Thanks for posting this.

Don't know why, but Tribes Ascended, for all its fan-base...has yet to interest me in the least. Spent a few days playing it and got fairly decent at it but it just couldn't hold my interest like other shooters have in the past. I'm one that will spend MONTHS UPON MONTHS playing a shooter if I like it.

I played it for a bit but either the lag was way worse than the game would let on or the hitbox is completely fudged. I got so many headshots from shooting someone in the chest and so many misses shooting someone who was in my sight, which might not be a huge issue when you're spraying your ass off but it is when you're using bolt-action.

There's also the whole "There's basically only assault rifles available" from what I saw. There's a secondary shotgun at level 40+ something but I don't have the attention span to play for that long to get to a new distinct weapon type. It gets boring fairly quickly.

There is more than just assault rifles, SMGS, Light SMGS sniper rifles. Overall its a pretty good game and its free so win win

@OP : you forgot to mention biggest difference with other "modern shooter" : the hrv. it's basically a maphack/wallhack that everyone has and it replace the minimap. it makes for real interesting gameplay.

Well weapon type is based on receiver. You can also get heavy weapon with point.

Haven't seen issue with hitbox, but maybe im just bad (which is a possibility)

Overall i like this game quite much. There's a few point however that need to be fixed :
    - i feel price for parts is a bit high. When you need to play 25+ game to get a single part, the game can feel like a pay to win.
    - starting round need a grace period. sometimes by the time i zone in on some map objectives are already starting to get completed
    - Inventory bug. seem to be fixed now but anyone not earning gp or not seeing what you bought : every time you do an inventory/mail action, you need to log
    out then log back in
    - spawn point are a bit weird sometime. on koth random spawning capture point is also very punishing because a whole team can just cap it before the other
    team even get there

p.s. hrv blackout in koth and ctf rocks. i have been called a hacker because of it

I played the game for a couple of hours last night got from level 1 to 9.

Not much diversity in weapons, Sure there is lots of customization but in the end all your making is a more powerful or optimized fully automatic, burst fire gun of some kind. There is one shotgun in the game (May be mistaken on this, but that is all i've seen so far), 1-2 Sniper rifles, a couple of SMGs and LMGs which feel the exact same as any other Assault rifle.

Sniper rifles hit detection is terrible. I sat across the map shooting this guy while he was AFK trying to get head shots and nothing was happening, Decided ok i'll just body shot him.. Nopee. This is not the first occasion i noticed hit detection either, many many many time! Needs a little work

Hard-suits.. really. This is one of the main problems i have with the game. I joined a game half way though and the enemy had 3 hardsuits out at the same time, INSTA-DEATH. After being killed about 5 times trying to deploy my own hardsuit i finally got one out and mine got destroyed after getting just one kill ><

These are just some of the cons of the game, Although there are soo many pros that its just stupid to list them. Overall the game is good, could be better but hey it was free

I'd give this game a shot if i were you.

I am really enjoying this except for one thing. My ms for the European sever is over 200 most of the time as is most peoples in the lobbies that I join, it also says that my ping is the same to connect to US severs as it is to connect to EU servers so I think they need to optimize the servers a lot before I begin to play it a lot more.

i've played it and i absolutely love it. the only problem with it is that there's no single player / offline play option, but since it's F2P, i'll let that slide

It's a online multiplayer only game...I can't think of a single F2P game with a cash shop that does allow offline play. Heck, even D3 requires you to be online to play single player, and the new Sim City game will as well, and neither game is F2P.

it is kinda fun buy ruined by:

items expire after a day usually
    LAG
ui is slow and bad, especially chat
bugs, i couldnt use my hard suit or aim down the sights after 2 matches
most features require real money, even getting another loadout costs 10 dollars...really?
    recoil is insane

another feature i don't like is datanode. I didn't like them when they were permanent, non-random, only in-game currency and they were called runes in LoL, i don't like them better when you slap features that basically says "cash cow" on it. at least the bonuses seems rather small i guess.

    edit : also crashed again
