3DsMax Rendering / Gaming Computer Build.

    Hello all,

I'm currently trying to come up with a build for a PC that is good at both rendering and gaming.
This is the build that I came up with so far.

    CPU: Intel Core i7-3820 Sandy Bridge-E 3.6GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 2011 $299.99
CPU COOLER: CORSAIR H100 Liquid CPU Cooler $114.99
    MOTHERBOARD: Intel BOXDX79SI LGA 2011 $264.99
    MEMORY: CORSAIR Vengeance 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR3 1866 CMZ32GX3M4X1866C10 $339.99
SSD: Corsair Force Series GT CSSD-F240GBGT-BK 2.5" 240GB SATA III MLC ISSD $239.99
    HDD: Western Digital Caviar Black WD2002FAEX 2TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s $199.99
    GPU1: MSI R6850 Cyclone PE Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX $159.99
    GPU2: MSI R6850 Cyclone PE Radeon HD 6850 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX
CASE: IN WIN Dragon Rider Black $129.99
PSU: COOLER MASTER GX Series RS750-ACAAD3-US 750W $89.99

    Total: 1840$

    N.B: Prices are from Newegg

The maximum that I'm willing to go for is something around 2100$
I'm not willing to overclock my CPU, so I'm not sure if i really need the H100.
I already own a 6850 so that is the reason why I'm adding another one.

    Feedbacks and suggestions are welcome!

    Thank You!

32GBof RAM is a MASSIVE overkill for gaming (and infact most other things). 8GB is just fine

It's a 3DSMax workstation as well. 24GB is typically recommended for most projects (unless you're designing an auditorium or something), but it's easier to buy 32 GB.

3DSMax does support SLI, but it's usually only noticeable on larger models. Unfortunately, rendering stations are hard to double as gaming stations, as the cards that are good for one aren't the best for others (quattro vs gaming). If it's just for hobbyist purposes however I don't forsee any problems.

The H100 is a great cooler but might be overkill if you don't plan to OC.

If you could stretch to a 3930K you would see a definite increase in processing power, plus you could overclock it fairly painlessly to over 4.5GHz which would make even more of a difference.

TBH I would buy an SLI Nvidia card. Their CUDA is vastly superior to any card on the market. And supported better in 3D apps. With 32GB memory you can render Pixar's next furr film in real time.

Anyway, what are you doing in Lebonon that you can afford $2000 computer lol....

Overclocking a production machine is a really stupid thing to do.

Well I'm not going for the 3930 because I'm planning to upgrade to the next Ivy bridge-E once it comes out.
Overclocking would be rather risky since when I render CPU performs at 100% for hours.
I do understand the SLI vs CrossfireX however personally I found AMD to be more robust than NVidia in GPU.

    Mr.Spaceshaman ^^
Hahaha! You should see how people spend like crazy in Lebanon . No clue how the Medias picture us from your side of the Globe xD, not saying I'm rich but this is a good investment since I'm an architecture student, and well that senior project will need some rendering power!

Oh yea and, I'm not really getting that quoting system ^^ hope I'll figure it out soon!
