    GW2 Graphics?

Are the graphics on this game intentionally turned down for beta or something? Or is my two year old computer just not running it properly? On the lowest settings it looks like an old NES game, and on the highest settings it still sucks.

My friend started up the beta weekend last night and she said she actually liked the game, so I was a little excited to try it out for myself...but then I loaded it up and wow, I am not sure I can even tolerate how bad it looks.

Its also pretty annoying that AVG hates it and it won't even let me add it to its safe programs. I have to completely turn AVG off just to download any updates or even play the game.

While I am making a thread, assuming I can get passed these graphics, what are some must do things for the beta weekend? What will really give me a sense of the game, and what are some really fun things to do?

They seem to hardware cap you if your PC is insufficient for running the game on max. Can be seen quite easily when comparing the max settings on a mid-range PC VS screenshots of a low-range PC. If you're not hardware capped and are seeing the correct max settings, you either do not know the difference between disliking a style and having bad graphics or are simply trolling. I'd like to think it's not the last one and give you the benefit of the doubt.

    1) There IS hardware capping, so if you have a bad comp, you can't use the best graphics (the ultra setting in game is set to the max your computer can handle)
    2) At first log in, graphics are set to the lowest settings
    3) The graphics right now use DX9, not DX11 (which it should be for release)
    4) Wow is more of a cartoon fantasy, while Gw2 is set more towards a realistic feel.

As for AVG, you should be able to add it to a list that would be able to ignore it.

There is a graphical setting that is for lower end computers, you most likely have it turned on. It reduces the amount of texture in objects and creates blurriness all over the screen. Makes them good look bad. Read through the graphical settings and what they do until you find out the one that gives blur on the screen because I forgot which one it is lol.

Has this been confirmed? Or is it a case of "patched in after release"? Awesome if it's confirmed for release.

1 sounds like its your pc. My 2 year old can run it and it looks just fine. 2. check out your AVG settings because i use AVG and have had ZERO issues running and installing the game.

Ah I should have expected to be called a troll for posting something that isn't spouting nothing but praise for the game. To prove I am not :

    @Allanon
    1. Is Intel Core2 Quad CPU, Q9400 @ 2.66Ghz, 8gig RAM, ATI RADEON 4800x2 bad? It is two years old, so I guess it could be by now.
    2. I know, I changed it to max settings and it still doesn't look that good, but now it lags a lot.
    3. Would that be causing this?
    4. I don't play WoW anymore, I play SWTOR now, so I like the realistic look...However my screenshot does not look realistic to me, does it to you?

And I know that about AVG, its still not working for some reason.

EDIT: Image seems to not be showing up for me, here is a link to it in case its not working: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/812/gw001th.jpg/

When I started GW2, my graphics were set to lowest. Set them to middle and the game looks amazing

So... did you watch the video Gephyrophobia linked? Does those graphics look crap to you? If both answers are positive, I think this game is not for you and you should move along and stop posting about it as it will only start flamewars.

Do you have sub-sampled textures on?

    i got all on ultra...good graphic..but i expected a bit more...something comparable to the witcher 2 let's say..

Ye, disable sub-sample textures. It adds blur to the textures, this feature is for low-end rigs.

out of interest what screen resolution are you using? Is your monitor able to handle high res stuff?

Looking at the screenie is seems the UI is a lot more closer than I have on my widescreen monitor. I'm guessing yours is not a widescreen monitor but one that uses the old 4:3 aspect ratio, if so is your monitor older than your PC? No point having a powerful PC if your monitor cannot handle higher resolutions that you PC is capable of.

If none of that is the case and you have a powerful up to date monitor for your PC then i don't know what the problem could be.

My PC runs the game absolutely fine on ultra max settings at 1080p so seeing lower res graphics like that makes me a sad panda for you.

You will probably have to wait 5-10 years or so until there is an MMO with that kind of graphic on the market.

judging by the size of your UI, i'd estimate youre playing in like 800x600 res. fix that.

My screenshot is of max settings. It looks like an old 8bit NES game.

I set it to max graphics, I did not check the individual settings. So if that is part of the preset highest setting, yes. If not, no. I will check it when I get a chance to play later.

The witcher 2 is the most Hardware pressing game on the market (as of right now?) and if you would expect graphics like the witcher 2 for mmos within a 10 year period then i'm sorry, but you're just a full blown retard.

Graphics aren't anywhere near that bad. Make sure to check that you do, in fact have settings as high as it will let you put them, and that subsampling is off. If you're not lying about your specs, you should be able to get much better video settings. If that still doesn't help, something may be bugged, and you'd be best served asking about it on the GW2 beta forums.
