Need to vent a bit. I am trying to gear up my hunter a bit at the moment. So I did a pug earlier. I met a paladin tank that changed his seal to seal of truth instead of seal of insight because he needed more threat on Sha of Pride versus his warrior co-tank. The warrior tank also agreed that it was a great idea to switch to seal of truth.

Now you might think, well this is common on LFR/Flex or whatever. Nononono. This was a 25 man heroic guild run with a few pugs (me being one of the pugs). This paladin seriously switched to Seal of Truth for Heroic 25 Sha of Pride for THREAT! I do not think I have facepalmed that hard in a long time.

I've seen 25H prot paladin have ~20% sotr uptime because "my healers can keep me up and i'm holding threat".

P.S. Firefly i think you got added to my btag O.o

I can top that: 10H paladin tank I know has consistently sub 15% SotR uptimes accompanied by a shit ton of EF casts. I figured it was just due to ignorance about AM. Then I learned the truth: she was spending all of that HP to blanket EF the whole raid...

I do that on sha :>
Granted sha is so punishing on tank dmg :< (and helping our healers to not rank, is just too nice to pass on)

Idk, i use it since sha is so fun that i might as well alt-tab.
And i like seeing ~10 green numbers pop up on my screen.
(I think the last time i used EF raid blanket as required was :a)thok 2 heal progression b)garalon progression)

Not like Sha can actually kill a tank either way. Back when we were progressing it and a wipe was called, it took me ages to die even when I was trying to get myself killed.

I've done selective "blanketing," too, namely IJ and Dark Shamans. But I'm talking every single fight.

Is he solo-tanking Blood Phase? If so, good on the healers.

    Looking at damage taken, no.

You actually don't take a lot of damage during that phase courtesy of mitigation. A few weeks ago I was arguing that damage taken is a bad metric for tanks. I had planned to use Blood Rage as an illustration before noticing that I took less overall damage than my co-tank despite solo soaking Blood Rage (he pulls first). Most of the hits are pitiful, with only a few being like regular 25H white attacks.

Is the guide here still up to date? I know it's late, but I may be tanking the rest of MoP (unexpectedly).

I haven't really tanked since the first tier in Cata, so I'm a little behind.

    Thanks

More or less, as it has always been. Depends on what content you are tanking but up to and including normals you wont be underperforming in contrast to what the content requires if you follow the guide without any other knowledge of the class.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

So besides this and the other links in the fix my tanking thread, anything else worth looking at?

Not rly. There are not really any other guides or something with more information. The only other thing to look at should be your spellbook and talent trees

Well, it is kind of the same as this guide and any other guide. It does not really have any additioal information.

And that guide is quite full of misinformation and disinformation. Just look at the glyph section or dodge/parry section. If he already read this guide he will not really learn anything new from that one.

Not saying it is worse than this guide, but it certainly is not better either.

mfw no hit/haste gems in blues, no exp/haste in red, actually listing battle healer, entire section on DR.
And personally i don't see SW as a good talent, it doesn't add to the smoothness of sotr uptime, and at the same doesn't give us an extra cd like HA.
