upgrade from phenom 2 or not?

    well im running a ph2 955/ 6870/ 2x4gb 1,5v 1333 ddr3
on an am3 msi 760gm-e51 mobo

the plan is to run 5040x1050.
im getting a 6970 from my friend. and while that and even my 6870
can run eyefinity. i think it would be good to upgrade to a 6950 CF setup later 6970+6950

but of course i need a cf mobo first!
i think it would be stupid to upgrade to another old
am3 mobo. so its either this:
budget 400 euros (and not just for cf but for a general upgrade) either
    am3+ asrock 970 extreme 4 - 105e
    fx 8120 - 169e
    samsung 830 64gb ssd - 77e
    new case - 49e

    that would be exactly 400e
    or then i get a z68 mobo with cf - 99e
    and a 2600k - 299e..

so its fx 8120 with ssd vs 2600k no ssd

and if i dont feel like spending that much ill just get
a fx 8120 + mobo for 270e.. im just worried that i wont notice
a performance increase over my phenom.
so would it just be 270 euros for a mobo for FUTURE crossfireing
although 8 cores sounds aweome even if it wont show in games.
thats why i also want i7 over i5.. the HT

edit: and yes i would oc the 8120 to ~4ghz

i5-2500k with SSD, you don't need i7 for gaming. Also FX-8120 is not an upgrade over PhII x4 955, just a sidegrade unless you really need the extra cores.

FX-4170 is better then the 8120s and 8150s

Edit, Hopefully this will help you out when choosing CPUs.

Don't go for the fx series, they are no improvement in games over a phenom. Although I am an AMD fan, they are simply not recomandable when you need more performance then what a phenom has to offer, and a i5 would suffice.

I second this, although I would say the 3570k is a better buy.

yeah maybe just need to get an i5 then.... the thing is that its more expensive of course
and its not like my current cpu couldnt play games on high settings at 60 fps..
im not sure if its worth the 340e for the mobo and cpu.
thats why i thought i should just get the i7 and not have to upgrade for years

Don't have to upgrade i5 for years either. It's really hard to imagine HT would suddenly be a gamechanger in next five years.

SSD is a luxury if you cant afford it Id go with a 3570k and z77 board at least
