i "joined" with a Norwegian guild at far shiverpeaks however i dont like to get interupted by server overflow so i have to go to a "waiting room" just to go back at the realm...
or am I wrong about that?

I don't believe you can see group members either which can be a fairly big issue, if you're grouping with a friend, get in the main server, one of you d/c's, now you both have to get back in the overflow again, which is kind of a pain because I had to go and zone all the way out and then run back to what we were doing.
The main issue is actually not being able to join folks from the guild in their events unless you're in their party. If you're on a full server, expect to have problems joining your guild mates for any end game events for the first maps due to being tossed to overflow instance if they're doing events on the main server's instance, as main instance is very likely to be full.
I had this problem with Desolation throughout all three BWEs. Essentially someone in the guild would say "this event doing on this map, come join", I would try to and get tossed into overflow instance instead which would often not have the event going at all.
How did you come to the conclusion that there is more competition on US servers, esp considering the time differences ?
There are more EU players in total, and if you look at other mmo rankings, the top spots are generally filled with more EU players than US.
Plus the pre-mentioned server, Desolation, is easily going to be the main UK server and were annihilating the competition in WvWvW in each BWE - so there is a LOT of PVP players onboard.

Check that site with different servers and where guilds will hang out.
But there will be option to pay for server transfer for gems, so either you buy gems for irl cash or for ingame gold. I dont know how common server jumping will be because of wvwvw but you wont be forced to stay on that server anyway so not really the biggest problem =)

Exactly, in BWE3 I often ended up in overflow server. Most people from same server but there was one dude that kept posting "this is a french server, speak french" so I dont think he understood that he was moved to overflow server and just wonder wth happened to the language :P
Weird, it's usually the oceanic server that gets skrewed with americans wanting to play with us for some reason. Doesn't seem overly busy on that link though atm.
so which US servers should I avoid then? I would prefer to skip the barrens chat experience. Tera was horrible with its chat. Everything was Elin rape jokes and how hot they were and "Id so do an Elin". Still better than WoW anal jokes but they got old.

Probably due to their play times. I would have rolled on one with WoW but I found a high enough populated server where raids happened no matter what time of day even from 4am-7am or at random other times so didnt need to.
One thing to note is that server transfers will be free for the first week to allow everyone to find their friends.
Also, server xfer includes ALL of your characters (you transfer your account) and prices are based on target world population.
Low - 500 gems = $6.25
Med - 1000 gems = $12.50
High - 1800 gems = $22.50

How can I see the server populations once the game is released?
I want to be in one of the most crowded servers, I hate it if the world is empty.
How will they handle full servers, or cant they be full? That's my biggest worries. But guess they can mash in pretty much all and just have the overflow available constantly? But guess free transfers first week is probably because they predict some servers to go full =/
I like how there's not as much reason to go to a low population server as in other games. Most MMOs have high population equaling high competition for resource nodes and mobs, so there's a huge reason to go for a low population server. GW2 have high population equaling high cooperation and more frequent DE's, so that's actually encouraging the use of high-population servers (as long as you don't get one that constantly puts you in the overflow, of course).
Is that official yet? I hadn't heard that. If so- gg Anet.
Also, for those complaining about overflow servers- remember in other games you also get a queue....just you sit there and stare at the loading screen while it counts down. In GW2- you at least get to keep progressing your character while you wait in the queue. Full servers are more of a problem- but if Anet offers free transfers for the first week- that should let ppl settle on some of the other servers. Also, the scaling for transfers to low or medium pop is pretty reasonable.
