need assistance with a gaming laptop

I just bought an Asus G75VW gaming laptop everything is working out pretty fine even tho i've never played on a laptop.

but i've been wondering.

Anyone know a way to turn my laptop into a desktop pc ? (what i mean is the following)

I plugged an HDMI cable from my laptop to my 22" monitor, using my old desktop's mouse & keyboard

But now all that is missing is being able to close my laptop (literally) without it logging me off / turning off.

not sure if the edit means you solved the problem, so i'll post a solution for ya.
If you go to power options you can set what the computer does when you close the lid. Just set that to do nothing. As for the monitor you can simply change the display options to display only on the monitor and not both monitor and laptop screen, and that should solve that.
