    Korean 27'' IPS monitors?

Hey so I'm in the market for a new monitor. I want a bigger one from my current 24'' 1920x1200, I did some research saw the dell ultra-sharp 30'' at around 1,400. I don't have that kind of money to spend on a monitor, but I came across the Yamakasi Catleap Q270.

That monitor looks pretty good and I haven't heard anything to bad about it on overclockers other than some dead pixels that occurred on the first start up.

Basically I want to know my options for these larger monitors, or a better choice.

Edit; I can't link to the eBay ad for the monitor but just Google "Yamakasi Catleap Q270" and it should be in the top results.

CodingHorror has a nice quick summary of the pros and cons of these monitors.

Those are fairly popular because of the price, but as you mentioned, the dead pixel warranty is much worse than you get from any western stores. You might get lucky and have a perfect display with no dead pixels at third of the price of Dell.

The panels are the exact same that 27" Apple Cinema Displays and Dell Ultrasharps use, but are B-quality.

What do you mean by B-quality in this case? *curious*

They're monitors that were not pixel perfect when they were tested, using the same panel as the apple cinema display and dell u2711. They had either a dead or stuck pixel or few of those. I'm pretty sure the korean warranty lets get a refurb if there's more then a few dead pixels anyways.
They were also overclockable for 120fps at one time.

Thing is, it's a gamble, but if you get lucky the panel will be worth it.

One dead pixel in a 1440p display would be hardly noticeable.

Yeah apparently you can overclock these to 100hz. And they are 2560x1440p.
    Playing since 2007.

Backlight problems, stuck/dead pixels, non-uniform colors and things like that. Can't be used for professional level graphics design like other IPS panels, but more than fine for average gamers.

I think by the time I get the money saved up, they'll have 4k res monitors out and I'll just end up getting one of those.

Hell a 120Hz 2560x1440 is something I'd love to get.

Gaming companies wont be realeasing such monitors - They're using an unstable connection - DVI-D just cannot handle such resolution / refresh rate.
The only thing that can handle that ref rate at that resolution is DisplayPort 1.2 and only the radeon 7000 has those - and when you produce monitors that arent for the mass market - they're too damn expensive - just look at the sony trimasters.

    Those are expensive. O_O

And are the DisplayPorts on the NVidia 600s not 1.2?

    Fairly certain they are not.

Not like the GTX 600 series really sports any notable amount of displayports to begin with either.

Sadly... wish NVidia would get around to coming up with something of their own, they are really lacking in the department for something to support high resolution monitors.

No, what nVidia should absolutely stay the heck away from is making shit up on their own as far as connectors go. Adopting displayport properly is what they need to do.
