Keybinds for Discipline PvE in MoP

Sometimes I wonder if as a Discipline priest I will have too many spells to keybind in MoP. We already had enough in Cata, but MoP adds even more of them.

    /shrug

What do you actually bind, and how?

Here's what I'm planning to bind: keep in mind that I only PvE.

    Core binds
    1) PW:Shield
    2) Penance
    3) Greater Heal
    4) Flash Heal
    5) Binding Heal
    6) Prayer of Healing
    7) Prayer of Mending
    8) Purify
Dispel Magic (will click this :-/)
Mass Dispel (will click this :-/)
    Inner Focus (*groan*... don't know)

    Regen
    9) Mindbender / PW:Solace
    (Shadowfiend: will click)
    (Hymn of Hope: will click)

    Throughput CDs
    10) PW:Barrier
    11) Pain Suppression
    12) Spirit Shell
    13) Halo / Cascade / Divine Star
    14) Void Shift
    15) Power Infusion

    Atonement healing
    16) Smite
    17) Holy Fire
    18) Archangel
(Penance atonement: already counted although I might need a separate keybind for offensive Penance...)

    Crowd Control / Evasion
    Psychic Scream (will click)
    Fade (will click)
Psyfiend / Void Tendrils / Dominate Mind (will click)
    Shackle Undead (will click)
Spectral Guise (/ Desperate Prayer) (will click)

Less commonly used spells for Discipline (?)
    19) Heal (do we need to bind this in MoP? GC says so...)
    20) Renew (do we need this as Disc?)
    Leap of Faith: don't know
Fear Ward (very situational, will click)
    Symbiosis (not worth it, maybe)
(Holy Nova - won't glyph for it)

    Grand Total

    ~20 keybinds
    ~8 clickable spells

Isn't this a bit too much? How do you feel about it?

To those also having tried other healer specs/classes: do they require so many keybinds in MoP as well?

I think it's in the high end but I don't think it's to much. with 10 binds on the mouse (almost all mice have 5 keys) you'll have plenty of room on your keyboard for the rest. then you just need to practice so you can hit the right button without having to think about where it is

Oh I adore having so many things to bind. There can never be anything wrong with more choice.
I also play a Paladin healer and I can tell you right now that is it a lot less fun, but I think that is more flavor than just having less to manage/click. Or perhaps I'm just better at Disc than Paladin Holy, I dunno.

Why the groan at Inner Focus? I love that little guy, it's just getting used to pressing it ASAP and remembering that Greater Heal will be reducing its cooldown.

Only change in terms of keybinds, really, is the Cascade addition (but I guess that'll replace the spot where Divine Hymn was.. RIP), and Void Shift, which I guess can replace Power Infusion, as Power Infusion is now clickable because I can only use it on me.

All it really takes is practice; currently I have every spell I use more than twice in a fight bound. If it matters:

    Core binds
    1) PW:Shield - V
    2) Penance - E
    3) Greater Heal - Shift + Right Click
    4) Flash Heal - Shift + Middle Click
    5) Binding Heal - 1
    6) Prayer of Healing - R
    7) Prayer of Mending - Q
    8) Purify - F
    Dispel Magic - Shift + F
    Mass Dispel - Ctrl + F
    Inner Focus - G

    Regen
    9) Mindbender / PW:Solace - Ctrl + Middle Click
(Shadowfiend: - Ctrl + Scroll Up
(Hymn of Hope: - Ctrl + Scroll Down

    Throughput CDs
    10) PW:Barrier - Shift E
    11) Pain Suppression - Shift V
    12) Spirit Shell - Shift R (Currently Divine Hymn)
    13) Halo / Cascade / Divine Star - C
    14) Void Shift - Shift C
    15) Power Infusion - T

    Atonement healing
    16) Smite - 2
    17) Holy Fire - 3
    18) Archangel - Shift 3
(Penance atonement: already counted although I might need a separate keybind for offensive Penance...) - My shift 2 is open, I doubt I'll bind a separate penance to it though.

    Crowd Control / Evasion
Psychic Scream (will click) - 6
    Fade (will click) - 7
Psyfiend / Void Tendrils / Dominate Mind (will click) - Shift 6 (I plan on taking psyfiend, unless fight mechanics require otherwise)
Shackle Undead (will click) - Clicking, very fight based, Shift 2 is still open though.
Spectral Guise (/ Desperate Prayer) (will click) - (I'm 90% sure disc mastery will benefit Angelic Bulwark, which is auto-proc.)

Less commonly used spells for Discipline (?)
    19) Heal (do we need to bind this in MoP? GC says so...) - Shift Left Click
    20) Renew (do we need this as Disc?) - 4
Leap of Faith: don't know - Shift G
Fear Ward (very situational, will click) -Agree, click; again, shift 2 is open
Symbiosis (not worth it, maybe) - Ctrl 6
(Holy Nova - won't glyph for it) - Same

I've been using these same binds since my priest has been raiding (some spells changed, but always to something similar ex. CD -> CD, Heal -> Heal) and so I am so used to them it's just natural. I looks like a lot, but all of my binds are easily in reach and I only ever hit the wrong spell when I just started using keybinds.

6 and Ctrl 6 seem to be rather far away for quick cc purposes. A matter of habit though, as always /shrug.

I use around 80 different binds as shadow currently and still have free slots. You should just think about how you want to arrange your bindings and the logic behind them. Assuming WSAD for movement (I myself use QWE; and S is a bad habit tbh), the most accessible buttons are E and Q. Then go 1-4, R, F, ~, tab and capslock. You can remap capslock into something else in registry to make it more handy. Next accessibility area is Z to V and 5, T, G. After that goes whatever you can reach with your fingers.
I prefer to bind Z->V to non-instants I have to cast most often, as I don't have to have my hand on movement buttons while casting, and arrange the most accessible buttons to instants or things castable on the move, and to oh-shit buttons, since you want to get them off asap (had vanish on tab as a rogue, for example).

I have something like 45-55 keybinds on my priest right now and I haven't even touched alt modifiers or used all modifiers for my mouse buttons. I still have lots of room I haven't had to use yet. When you really start looking at how you can create new keybinds you will surprise yourself. Just takes practice to get used to them.

  7. #7
`12345 with alt, shift and ctrl modifiers is 24 keybinds. XCFG would be my next go to key binds for wasd giving you an extra 16, and this isn't even counting mouse buttons. You shouldn't have to click anything just learn to use modifiers better

Jut get a naga or a g600. I mean really, this kind of hardware upgrades exist for that very reason.

This are the buttons I´ll be using, not sure what goes to what button though:
    1-6, q, w, e, r, t, a, g, z, x, c, v, b (quite some of those with shift/ctrl/alt) and if needed f1-f6. This should be more than enough.

    Adding

    Feathers Ctrl+Mouse 1 incase i take it.
Fear Ward Ctrl+Mouse 2 Situational but some trash/bosses still fear
    Inner Fire Ctrl+1
    Inner Will Ctrl+2

    Grand Total

~32 Keybinds (depending on Talents i pick like Feathers and Desperate Prayer))
1 clickable spell +Mana pot and Health Stone
(if we dont lose SW:P / MindSear they will be clickable as well)

Isn't this a bit too much? How do you feel about it?
Is it much, well 32 doesnt sound like "only a few binds" but im used to it some people go like WTF that many (got 29 atm on live).

To those also having tried other healer specs/classes: do they require so many keybinds in MoP as well?
I got Less Binds on my Druid and Paladin, can't recall how much i have now seeing they get more CD's in MoP as well but prolly around 20 binds in total i think.

    I move with ESDF, and have binds (that i actually press) on;

    RTYGH
    QWA
    ZXCV
    1-7
    shift + 1-5
    F1-F6

That's currently in cata, not sure how my qbars will look in MoP yet, but it doesn't seem to be a huge difference.

  14. #14
Got about 47 keybinds that I use when doing PvP with all the focus and arena frame targeting going on, think I'll be fine :>

  15. #15
The change in keybinds compared to Cata for PvE is really negligible.

Sure, you get Void Shift, Spirit Shell and lvl90 talents as extra buttons, but you also lose Divine Hymn, Mana Burn, and possibly Power Infusion depending on talents. You *might* also pick up Angelic Feathers, PW: Solace and Spectral Guise/Desperate Prayer (though this one many people had already), but all in all you might need like one to three extra keybinds compared to now. Surely, that doesn't feel like too much? :P

I use Clique-style healing with VuhDo, and I currently have 17 binds in VuhDo (including Power Infusion). MoP will add ~2 more to these (Void Shift and lvl90 talents unless I pick Halo). Outside of that, I have... about 12 keybinds currently and some clickable abilities (Mind Vision, Mana Hymn). If say Spirit Shell replaces Mana Burn and Tendrils replace Divie Hymn, then there is only two extra keybinds, Solace and Angelic Feathers. This is assuming you pick every single talent that requires a new button.

As for other classes, both my druid and my shaman have WAY less keybinds right now and nothing much will change in that aspect in MoP.

Exactly why I ordered a G600 a couple days ago. I counted it up and I think there are approx. 10 CDs that I can bind to the mouse alone.

I don't know, tried the Razer Naga a while back and it just felt wrong to me... Maybe it's because i spend more time playing FPSs than wow atm.

For now i'll just stick with my mx518 and then buy a g500 probably when this one dies

  18. #18
The maximum number of binds is actually going down a bit in MoP. So if you've got everything bound - which is doable even with a standard keyboard + mouse setup - then the changes won't be a problem.
