I love DMC, i don't like this "new" Dante either, but i will play anyway. I hope we can play as Vergil, apparently he still has a little badassery left.

the new game looks amazing
but dante will always be badass white haired dude that kicks ass!
newdante and newvergil you both suck hard!
I dont mind the changes, this series needed a serious reboot as it was basically eating it's own tail. Rabid fanboys wont be pleased, but they are rarely pleased anyway.
I'm a rabid fanboy, I will admit that with absolutely no shame. I was pleased by DMC 4, and every DMC game before it. In fact, I even liked DMC 2 to a point, though it's only good in small doses. The franchise wasn't, "eating its own tail" as you put it. This is the history of DMC.
The original: It was good and it was popular. Not extremely popular, not a AAA title, but it did well.
DMC 2: Low point in the series. Many fans felt that it didn't really capture what made the original good. Sales and reviews were both low.
DMC 3: A giant innovation in the franchise. They took a lot of big risks with this game, and they all payed off. It was insanely popular among fans, but it didn't do very well. The game sold terribly, much worse than 2, most likely as a result of 2. The game was so good though that it gave the series its credibility back. In many ways this game defined the series, and almost felt like a reboot in and of itself.
DMC 4: This game was a lot more publicized than 3. It was highly anticipated, maybe you could even consider it a AAA title. The sales were much better, even surpassing the original. The fan opinions were very mixed. Most fans agreed it was better than 2 by a lot. At first, there was a big divide between people saying it was the best in the series, and people saying that it was only better than 2. Fan opinions started to change though, and these days it's generally accepted as being a very very good DMC game. People still debate which ones are the best, but many more people argue for 4 than they used to. This game really continued in the style of 3 though, and is the first DMC game to not almost reinvent the style completely.
Imo, we need more games like 4. They just need to be more polished, and keep innovating.
If Goku's power level increases at the same rate till the end of DBGT as it does till the end of the Frieza saga, as a SS4 Goku would have a PL of roughly 939 Quinoctogintillion. For reference that is a 260 digit number. A PL of 14,600 is required to destroy an earth sized planet. There are about 2 nonillion earths worth of mass in the universe. That means SS4 Goku can destroy the universe about 32 Octosexagintillion times over. There's a reason they made Goku a god at the end of GT.
Initially I hated it. I saw the first cinematic and when I saw Dante I thought "wow that looks fucking awful, I can't believe they wrecked DMC".
BUT
It's grown on me; I don't mind the new character design, it looks a lot better in-game than in screenshots and cinematics.
Regarding the gameplay it looks alot closer to more recent titles such as Bayonetta; the mechanics just look better and combat flows faster. Let's be honest, if you hold Bayonetta and DMC4 side-by-side, Bayonetta shits all over it.
This new reboot looks like a serious effort to bring the gameplay and art-style up to speed so as long as it's fast and furious and stylish as hell it's still DMC!
Edit: I also feel a lot of this "rage" is just people jizzing over "white haired guy with giant sword". You see it with Sephiroth a lot "OH HES SO GREATEST VILLAIN WHITE HAIR SWORD LOL" and now we're getting it with Dante "omg the new main char has BLACK HAIR WATDAFAK". Be a bit more open minded. I think this game might actually be better in terms of gameplay than previous offerings and that's what matters, NOT the colour of the character's hair.

It's not just the hair, trust me. If you check out the first two minutes of this video (below), the dialogue is just cringe-worthy. I could live with it if I thought that the gameplay looked any better, but frankly, it just looks easy. I've seen several gameplay videos of this same boss fight where pretty average (and even bad) players would be able to easily get a triple-S rank without putting much effort into it at all. I haven't delved into the DMC universe too much outside of DMC 3 and 4, but I've watched my boyfriend play it a ton, and I've seen him try his brains out on certain fights so I know how hard it can be, whereas in this game, people get the shit kicked out of them and make mistakes left and right and still come out on top. I dunno if it has to do with the difficulty setting they were on, but it just didn't seem fun.

They are playing on easy. They want to show the flashy stuff off, not die and slow down the action. This happens in every demo shown since the year dot. If they can get the difficulty and flow of combat anywhere near Bayonetta, then it's better than DMC4 by a long-shot. I'm hopeful they will (they got the points for style already)
Edit: the dialogue and story has always been cringeworthy in DMC.

"Didn't we have some fun...though? Remember when the platform was sliding into the fire pit and I said 'Goodbye' and you were like 'No way' and then I was all 'We pretended we were going to murder you'......that was great"
I literally meant "looking" though, I honestly know close to zilch about the personalities or tone of DMC games.

Dante's look has changed with each game.
This is old Dante.
This is new Dante.
Please tell me you understand where I'm coming from now. I suppose it is worth noting though that NT has already caved to fan bitching somewhat. New Dante looks a LOT better after they updated his looks. In the first trailers he looked a lot worse. I still think his new look is terrible.
To really understand old Dante though, you gotta watch some cutscenes. He was a goofball mixed with about 10 tons of badass. Old Dante does shit like surfs rockets and rides motorcycles up giant towers.

Wont be getting it, the new Dante look disgusts me.
i'll probably get it after a few months when it's $20
i'm sure the combat is pretty good but just the whole new style and dante won't make it a must buy for me
also i just remember something i watched about dmc3 saying they HAD TO MAKE IT 60 FPS. but now they're taking it down to 30fps? i mean for shitty people like it it won't make a difference but for the people who play the shit out of dmc it will. seems like a poor move for the hardcore fanbase when it's likely just making the graphics/background not look so super pretty
btw laurcus, what was your take on the anime?
I always chuckle at the use of disenfranchised, do people even know what the fuck that means anymore? I mean dante doesn't seem like the kind of character who would vote in the first place...

Its gonna blow, in part due to Tameen's ego i remember watching some interviews with him after the reveal of the game and he said "If the original Dante walked into a bar he'd be laughed out of there." Really Mr.Tameen your Dante has that "look" that wouldn't get him laughed out of a bar? Oh wait that's right cause he is based on you! In the same interview he said how they were using elements of Tameen's own life for a basis for angsty-teen-superpunk-Dante and not to mention they modeled the character after the dude. Such a sad sad man and i do hope he gets hit by an airplane.
Are you me? I think you're me, because we're thinking the same exact thing.

I liked it, more canon DMC is always good imo. Though I really just wanna see what happens after DMC 2, no more prequel stuff. And yes, Dante seems so out of touch with politics that I bet he couldn't name a single government official. Willing to be he could name a lot of porn stars and different kinds of pizza though.![]()

I always preferred the original DMC1 look of Dante (he even looked pretty good that way in the anime). The transition from tall boots, into chaps and jeans as the series has progressed has kinda ruined it for me - to me it's shifting from fantasy and adventure to some sort of lame modern...I don't even know how to describe it. It's similar to how Final Fantasy started out as medieval heroes sailing across the world and finding a magic airship, whereas in the newest ones they're wielding guns and cannons, and then you get an airship, but big deal, there's planes, rockets, mechas, and flying cars everywhere you go - even the cities are flying.
The hair, however, doesn't bother me one way or another.
