    How to use printed screen?

Strange question but it drives me crazy.

Situation that have happened some time ago :
I'm watching anime and there is scene with nice shot of cool character.
I want to make it avatar! Or at least use it as signature / whatever on the forum.

And now... I've used plenty of programs to capture "selected region" but it doesn't work! I select region that I want to save but programs make weird things with it...
Cut top and make bottom longer
Capture everything but not selected area.
Zoom in and capture whole window >.<

What's the point of capturing selected region when it captures whole window?!

I've tried to capture whole window and then :
    paste to paint
    cut edges ....
it doesn't work. I can't cut it because it just turns into different part of screen lol (maybe because it's PNEG or smth)

I can't save it as JPEG because it's black screen after I do it.

I just don't know what I can do to make it work.

How to save ONLY selected area (with SELECTED size ... no auto-resized pictures!) as jpg?

EDIT: \/ Thanks but it's still not what I want xD Still saves as png and full screen ;/

VLC has a built-in feature where you can capture a certain frame and save it as a JPG-image. You find it under the "Video"-tab in the menu I believe.

You could also use IrfanView and instantly cut away the edges from a "normal" print-screen. The above is probably the smoothest though.

As for size, you can easily resize images in IrfanView. Just press ctrl+r.
