That depends how you define bankruptcy. Since the US can print its own money, it can technically never go bankrupt, as it can always pay its own bills.

If you define bankruptcy to include paying debts with devaluated currency, thus not truly paying back the original value of the loan + interest, the US (and many/most western nations) have been bankrupt for quite some time.

    That's a completely erroneous assertion.
'Twas a cutlass swipe or an ounce of lead
Or a yawing hole in a battered head
And the scuppers clogged with rotting red
And there they lay I damn me eyes
    All lookouts clapped on Paradise
All souls bound just contrarywise, yo ho ho and a bottle of rum!

Nope US is not on the verge of Economic Collapse. There are jobs out there people just have to look. McDonalds always interviews at least that many people because they take everyone from a 15 year old to a mentally handicapped person. They also have the highest turnover rate of any employer in the country and they like it that way. Keep applying and you'll get a job. Honestly, if you only applied at McDonalds and are using that as your gauge for if the US is on the verge of economic collapse I strongly wonder how bad you want a job and if you understand economic collapse. There are at least 10 other fast food chains in most towns/cities, wal-mart, factory work of some kind (maybe), a car lot that needs detailers, a place that needs a receptionist, a telemarketing place, any local resturant, gas stations. There are tons of jobs its just limited by how many applications you put in.

It's too bad we don't do a better job controlling our population. Too bad birth control makes people angry, then maybe a few less babies and our unemployment number wouldn't be so bad. And more people could get educations and not be in debt before their 21.
