    Computer Build Help

Hey everyone. Lately I've decided to get a new computer for myself since my current one is 5 years old and is going a little bit haywire, not to mention the new games I'm going to buy which my computer will probably go boom before managing to load them. Anyway, here's what I got so far:

Motherboard: ASUS Rampage III Gene LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131658

Processor: Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost)

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115072

Graphics Card: 2GB Nvidia GTX 550 TI

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130652

    RAM: Corsair 8GB (2x4GB) @ 1600 MHz

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145344

    SSD: OCZ 120GB SATA III

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227706

    HDD: 400GB 7200 RPM

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148432

    Case: Coolermaster Storm Stryker

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119260

    Cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118129

Now, my question is this. What kind of power supply would such a system need ? And also, if there are any more budget-wise changes I could make, feel free to elaborate on that. As for the budget itself, I'm not sure how much it is yet, but around 1k-1.2k dollars at the very max. The prices I calculated for these parts were after rebate but I won't be buying from the website, I'll be having my aunt who's in the US at the moment buy the parts from a newegg store there and bring them when she gets back so I'm not sure the prices will be the same (I'll let her know once I'm done with a satisfying system).

As a further note, the games I will be playing are: World of Warcraft, Diablo 3, Guild Wars 2, Starcraft 2, League of Legends but I'd also like the performance to be good enough to play new games in decent graphics.

CPU and motherboard isn't compatible. Look for an i5-3570k + Z77 motherboard.

Look for Samsung 830 or crucial m4 SSD instead.

Get a Western Digital Blue 500GB instead.

RAM - Complete waste of money, get a 1600MHz low profile kit around $45.

GPU- Quite low end, even a 7770 GHz Edition would be better, otherwise AMD 7850 > GTX 560ti > AMD 6870

Where are you from? Make sure you know the exact import rules before you get burned and end up paying more or even worse.

I'm not importing from the website, I'm from Cyprus and my aunt is in the USA, from my understanding, newegg has a shop from which she can buy the parts from.

These are the changes I made:

    Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131837

    Processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116504

    SSD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820147163

    HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136567

    GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130683

There's also this combination offer from newegg (I don't know if it works when not buying from the website though): http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboB...=Combo.1043154

Thanks for any help in advance.

Just would like to query one part.

I see you went with the WD 500GB 2.5" 5400rpm dive ( Notebook size hard drive ). There is absolutely nothing wrong with putting 2.5" drives in desktop machines. I only want to query what you intend on using it for. It is a 5400 rpm drive so if for storage purposes then it should be just fine. If you are going to be a little harder on the drive then might i suggest you with a 7200 rpm drive. ( Could also be from a budget Point of view )

Do not forget to take out the space in the newegg links.

    new egg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136769

    and

    new egg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136795

Otherwise it you have your heart set on a 2.5" 500gb drive, then perhaps try new egg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136856

Overall, it is a solid build. Out of curiosity, what are you doing for the power supply? Going to use your old one as you have not listed one yet.

PS. I have not taken your budget into account, just wanted to show you other options you have on the hdd front.

I assume she is going to take it through customs, so i'm saying you want to make sure you know how much she can bring with her before paying import tax/fees.

The HDD is a laptop drive change it to this:

Western Digital Caviar Blue WD5000AAKX 500GB

This GPU is cheaper and better:

    SAPPHIRE 100355L Radeon HD 7850 2GB

    The rest looks good.

First of all, I'm a he (!). Secondly, as I said in both my posts, my aunt will be bringing the parts from the US since Newegg has stores there (amirite?), I won't be importing from the website. The HDD is supposed to store my movies, images and music only, but I see the price difference isn't that big so I went with the 7200 RPM anyway. As for the power supply, that was one of my questions, I'm not sure what power supply I should get for a system like this, while I actually like getting involved and learning stuff, I'm not really good with computer hardware, especially when it comes to power supplies. Overall, it seems pretty good to me like this as well. I'd like your opinions on the power supply I should get and I think I'm set. Again, thanks in advance.

I'm fairly certain that he was talking about your aunt, which I assume is a she? If she is going to the US perhaps she can go to a Microcenter store, they have some pretty nice deals on CPU and motherboards.
    Intel i5-3570K @ 4.7GHz | MSI Z77 Mpower | Noctua NH-D14 | Corsair Vengeance LP White 1.35V 8GB 1600MHz
    Gigabyte GTX 670 OC Windforce 3X @ 1372/7604MHz | Corsair Force GT 120GB | Silverstone Fortress FT02 | Corsair VX450

If anything, only buy the CPU+Mobo from Microcenter and by everything else locally. It should be cheaper and easier to return if you buy locally. Plus, shipping electronics via airline luggage isn't exactly the best way to go. They assume everything is clothes so they literally throw your luggage around.

As regards to the PSU, any PSU at about 500W or above is fine. The other criteria you would be looking for are brand (with regards to reliability), 80+ certification (80+ Bronze is good enough for a budget build) and whether or not you want to pay a small premium for a modular PSU.

I would recommend switching your SSD from Vertex 3 to Vertex 4.

Your case is pretty expensive for your build price point.

Oh yeah, lol, my bad Well then, I'll check which store is best to buy the parts from, I just used newegg's website to search for the parts and compile a list. Still need to find a power supply though. And as a further question, do you guys think such stores would be willing to set up the pc for no extra cost as I NEVER tried and I'm a bit afraid I'll blow it.

Trust me, in Cyprus, a pc like this would easily hit 1.3k euros, no joke. It's extremely expensive here. Although your luggage argument is kind of troubling.

Can you hop a ship for a shopping spree in one of the neighboring countries?

Heh, I wish I could but I don't think so

Also, would a power supply such as this be viable ?

Yes "she" as in your aunt...

I don't know how else to explain this but when you travel from the States to X country you're only allowed to import/export Y amount until you have to pay your country's full tax and and import fee. It has nothing to do with ordering from a website or not. I'm just telling you so you're aware you might have to pay full tax which will have to happen at the airport, if she can't pay then they withhold everything.

Any of these power supplies will be fine:

    OCZ ZT Series 550W Fully-Modular
PC Power and Cooling Silencer MK III 600W Modular
    CORSAIR Enthusiast Series TX650 V2

Well that doesn't sound fun at all ! I'll check about this. Does it have to do anything with the weight or just the raw amount of items you'll be taking ?

    Dollar value.

Entering the US, the maximum amount you're allowed to have without paying customs is $10,000.

Most likely much less you have to check with local tax laws in your country.

    @yurano

That sounds like a lot, you sure you can bring home that much?

Entering Denmark from the US you're allowed ~$540

My bad, thats the cash amount you can bring. https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/det...FIbWQ0bA%3D%3D

    Goods amount is $800. http://www.cbp.gov/xp/cgov/travel/va...aying_duty.xml

Duties are only assessed when entering a country.

Is there any other you would recommend ? I went for a case with a lot of fans by itself because it's retardedly hot here.

The Storm trooper and Stryker is actually one of the few CM cases I like. The case is excellent but yes fairly expensive and also seems like it wouldn't be easy to travel with for your aunt, I mean it's huge

You might wanna consider buying a case locally.
