I usually look at colors, lighting and backgrounds. What makes the purple sylvari really pop? I'd say a yellow environment, maybe a red/orange or something dark like Orr. Then I take several screens in multiple angles.
Your ranger (which looks awesome btw) would pop greatly in lighter area's. However I think she would look great in a dark forest as well, with some moonlight shining on her... I almost wished I could make screenshots of her =D

I haven't seen her headpiece before, what is it?
Thanks so much for the tips! One of my biggest problems is that whenever I want to take a screen shot, it's always night for some reason. I suppose I could guest over to another server and hope it's daytime, though! And thank you so much for the advice about colors. That really makes sense. I had to resort to using the standard remodel menu background to make her colors stand out as they seemed to...not do that so much anywhere in the world that I took screens. I'll remember that though from now on, to keep a good contrast.

Also, the Norn's headpiece is actually just a part of her hairstyle; it was one of the three new ones that were added.

I have a sylvari ranger that I can't find the right look for. I've messed around a little, but nothing feels "right". I just use her to hold items for mystic forging at this point, but still look over things once in a while to try to figure out what I want.

So yeah, during the tower opening, while running around on another character, I saw that armor and was like "that, that's it, that's what I want for my ranger!"...

They may not look that obvious in the screenshots, but they are very noticeable while moving around in game.

As you can see, it appears more of a dull light grey even in daylight. Compare to two of her previous looks, both very bright white (Celestial):

I'm thinking of transmuting the set (since it has the stats I want) with her 'old' cultural set pictured above (I love that set), but haven't quite decided yet. Mostly because transmutation crystals are rare and precious and I'm too cheap to buy them from the gem store (for either RL $ or gold). :P
Have you tried playing with the performances? I've noticed that on a lower quality of settings, the colors change with it. My celestial shiny armor suddenly turns into an ugly gray color. And I noticed the quality of your pictures ain't the highest.
This is why I always check if my computer is on full performances if I decide to make pretty screenshots. Unless your computer can't handle it.

I find the differences pretty huge.

One interesting thing I've noticed is the Post Processing option. On High it seems to "dust" your armor (and everyone) with the environment colors and bloom/haze...good for immersion/realism, not so good for character screenshots. Unless you're in a bright sunlit area (e.g. around Lion's Arch, beaches etc), you're going to have all sorts of hazy/gloomy colors mixing with your armor colors. Sometimes it looks alright, most of the times it just overshadows your dyes.

But if you set Post Processing to "Low" or "Off", there is a pretty drastic change and everything becomes clear, vibrant and colorful. This is especially noticeable in places like Orr and Heart Of The Mists. I just leave mine at Low, everything else maxed-out with native sampling. Occasionally I set resolution to 2560x1440 if I want really big characters :P

Yup, I also play a lot with the post-processing option. Sometimes it just burns your eyes when it's on high. Yesterday when I was at Dwayna, I couldn't even see her. It was one big blog. When I turned it off, I could actually see what she looked like in combat :'D

But due to me playing around with the settings, I sometimes forget the post processing. If only there was an option to save your personal settings... so I can switch from best performance (wvw blobs) to my personal preferences.

Thank you! It was actually taken during the instanced story mission from about two patches ago. The one where you have to fight outside the tower of nightmares.

It has been a bit quiet for me lately. Too much IRL stuff going on. But I started new character, ranger this time. Just for my own playing.

Going for the Wings of Dwayna backpiece for my Mesmer. May change the hairstyle, at least the ribbon color.

So I'm really starting to dislike my pants/shoes that I have on my Ele but I really really like the chest/shoulder combo. Anyone have suggestions?
